Most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers experienced unexpected annual subscription charges and auto-renewals that occurred without prior warning or clear consent whatsoever. Furthermore, consumers expressed deep frustration regarding aggressive paywalls, the removal of previously free features, and overly strict content filters that severely limited their creative editing projects. Additionally, people struggled with difficult interface bugs and unresponsive mobile webpage designs while trying to complete their daily work. Some people were satisfied with the software, describing it as an excellent and intuitive tool for fast daily photo editing. They also appreciated the responsive assistance provided by the friendly customer support representatives when resolving various account issues.

The overall experience and results are satisfactory , however i booked a whole year(a few monts ago) and had around 4500 credits still. Now they are suddenly 0 credits. I can still login but no more credits. I gave you 5 stars instead of 1 cause i know how reviews can affect a business. Please restore my credits? Salamat

Refused to give a reasonable refund

Refused to give a reasonable refund I somewhat impulsively signed up for pixlr's plus subscription and quickly found out the Hard Way that the pixlr plus webpages do not support RAW photo uploads even to save a life, never mind being actually able to PROFESSIONALLY edit them. I dont understand how a web photo service can consider itself to be PROFESSIONAL if it doesn't even support RAW open source DNG, never mind my ORFs, so I cordially requested a refund of my mere 2.24 U$D, which was FLATLY and DISINGENUOUSLY REFUSED by a lame, unhelpful pixlr support email. I was provided with a stupid fine-print link to their entire Terms of Service, none of which I deem enforceable anyway, due to their SHARP and SHADY presentation of said terms, in my PROFESSIONAL opinion. david james shaver online

Hi there, Thank you for reaching out to Pixlr. We may not support RAW or DNG format. However, we do support the standard image format such as JPG, PNG and WebP. You may convert the file to the respective format to utilize them on our Pixlr editor.

They mentioned 100% free

They mentioned 100% free, but only 3 downloads are free. Scam.

Reply from Pixlr2025-12-25

Hi there, Thank you for reaching out to Pixlr. The 3 downloads are daily and will reset on a daily basis. You may get our plus plan at just $2.49 per month to get unlimited daily saves. Saving a project as PXZ file won't consume any download quota.

Acting unlawfully

DMCC act 2024 'it is now a requirement by law to send a timely reminder ahead of auto renewal dates.' Pixlr have acted illegally and have taken £68.23 from my account without prior warning. Not only this but also did not warn me of a price increase either. I am awaiting an email responce and a refund!! *update* they refuse to refund and have totally ignored the DMCC Act 2024. Nice consumer care!! *update After writing this I was offered a 11month partial refund , it really should have been 12 months but for arguments sake I let them have it. Good to get it sorted in the long run.

Not worth the money

I found this as a first website listed on google, what a terrible experience this was, even after buying the so called "PRO" license the AI editor and the AI generator were utterly bad, never using this again, reviews only corrected me

What a waste of time

What a waste of time , they lure you to signup on the pretext that its free but when you try to do a basic photo edit, it ask you to pay! why do you do such false advertising!

Reply from Pixlr2025-11-25

Hi there, Thank you for reaching out to Pixlr. The basic editing options are free. The option that requires credits are mainly the AI tools which you would need credits before you can use it. Hope this clarifies.

I used to be a paid user

I used to be a paid user. I'm a traditional artist who used pixlr for editing photos of my artwork. It used to be a dream! It was easy to use and had features other online editors didn't (like the option to balance black and white as opposed to just contrast and brightness options) and while all those features are still there and haven't changed... the immediate jump on the AI wagon makes it insufferable to use now. Most users prior to the AI push would've been photographers/graphic designers/artists, they wouldn't have needed or wanted AI features. Yet they got shoved onto us anyway. Every single aspect of the site is "AI" this and "AI" that now, literally every single bit of text on the site tells you this is an AI photo editor with AI features, you constantly get pop ups telling you to generate with AI, and now with your subscription you get AI credits to AI generate images, and what for? I generate images myself. I'm an artist. What is the point of me generating garbled impresice cheap looking versions of what I already do? That's what I'm paying for now?! I recommend using gimp instead, it has the same option to balance white and black in the exposition settings that I used to mainly use pixlr for. If they want to be a lazy uncreative person's low quality content generator then they can go ahead and be that without me.

Unethical automatic renewal – avoid Pixlr at all costs

I used Pixlr for a year and completely forgot the auto-renewal was on. Ι was suddenly charged for a full annual subscription, without any warning or confirmation email beforehand. I contacted support within one hour of the charge, asking for a refund since I didn't want to use it any more. They refused, hiding behind their so-called “no refund policy.” This is absolutely unacceptable and unethical. I live in the EU, where consumers are protected under Directive 2011/83/EU, which clearly grants a 14-day withdrawal right for digital services that haven’t been used. Pixlr’s policy directly violates EU consumer law and shows complete disrespect for their customers. I strongly advise anyone thinking of subscribing to avoid Pixlr. There are plenty of better and more transparent tools out there that actually respect their users and don’t rely on tricking customers with automatic renewals and refusing legitimate refunds.

Terrible AI Features

Tried the "Generative Fill" and "Noise Remover", the model 1) doesn't understand the image's context, and 2) doesn't understand your prompt and would add any random object.

Hi there, thank you for reaching out to Pixlr. Kindly email to [email protected] with the respective image and what you wish to add and the team can guide on the best approach to utilizing the AI tools.

Pixlr. Wasted my credits and killed my video

I decided to create a 20 second video with pixlr. The AI slapped some kind of alien-language captions on your poor dog video. Classic. The prompt is correct, but the generator is chewing it up and spitting out nonsense at the bottom. And the killer blow was a image of a dog sitting with it's head facing the other way.

Reply from Pixlr2025-09-23

Hi Alan, AI video results can vary, and they do depend heavily on the exact prompt. Some prompts simply work better than others. We recommend trying a revised prompt with clearer constraints. We’re continuously improving the video generator, and it will keep getting better over time. Thank you. Pixlr Team.

What worked great in a trial run (Face Swap), failed miserably within a subscription. I'm cancelling.

Hi there, Thank you for reaching out to Pixlr. Kindly note that our Pixlr Express and Pixlr Editor will save your work history in your desktop browser and it will not save any of your work on our server as this is in compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and we have deactivated our PIXLR CLOUD STORAGE as of July 31, 2018. As such, all the information for your project is only saved in your browser history and cache. Your file may be lost due to the desktop clearing cache, working in an incognito mode where history and cache are not stored, or lack of storage space. It may also be due to your desktop being set to periodically clear cache to make space for your files. Changing to a different browser doesn't transfer the data from the cache. To avoid any loss of your work due to unforeseen circumstances, we recommend saving your work/project as a PXZ file ( Pixlr Editable File) which you may upload to Pixlr to edit the Image anytime.

Awful app

I had a very disappointing experience with Pixlr. I intended to use the free trial but was unexpectedly charged for a subscription after only one day of use. I contacted customer support to explain the situation and request a refund, but unfortunately, my request was denied. In addition to the subscription issue, the app itself did not meet my expectations. I encountered frequent bugs, slow performance, and occasional glitches that made the editing process frustrating. Even during the trial period, there were an excessive number of ads, which further impacted the overall usability.

Reply from Pixlr2025-07-17

Hi there, Thank you for reaching out to Pixlr. The plan is a renewal from the free trial and you have sub for the free trial over a week ago. If you encounter any bugs or glitch, kindly email to [email protected] and the team can help to diagnoise the issue. When you have a premium trial plan, you shouldn't see any ads, if you seen any ads, do take a screenshot and send it to [email protected] and the team will look into it.

Warning: cancel immediately

Be warned if you subscribe. I recommend you cancel right away. They have annual subscriptions. App developers all know most people drop after several months. so the odds are you will not be using this in a year. Their policy has them auto rebill you after a year, they do not offer any refunds, but they also do not notify you that your renewal is upcoming or anything. This is a strategy to gain pure profit. you pay them for something they do not use because you forgot. So cancel immediately on signing up

Reply from Pixlr2025-06-27

Hi there, thank you for reaching out to Pixlr. The information about the renewal is mentioned during the sign up as well as when you received the invoices. If you encounter any error in the renewal, feel free to email to [email protected] and the team would be happy to investigate and assist further.
