I booked a hotel room through the link on a wedding invitation. A product of Joy.
They took my money.
When we arrived at the hotel for the wedding, we were told that there was no reservation for us. We had to then quickly pay for a room at much greater cost. This was very stressful.
When I sent a request to Joy for a refund of my money for the botched reservation they were very cunning, stringing me along for months with platitudes of "wanting to help". Later, the hotel told me that Joy had made the reservation in the wrong name and that they, the hotel, had refunded my money to Joy.
So Joy continued to refuse my refund even though I was told via their email that the money had been refunded.
That is fraud.
Take my money in a hurry.
Botch the booking.'
Refuse my refund!!
It took me a while to get used to it however, from an end user standpoint they say I did a good job. I had my niece go in and check it out after I set everything up. I am 62 years old and not very computer literate.
It wasn't easy to populate the forms - sometimes I would lose the formatting and it was VERY difficult to figure out how to get it back. All the sneaky ways that I was getting charged for things was VERY off-putting. I would have preferred UPFRONT information about fees before I wasted so much time. Charging to text message guests is gross. Paying for simple invites that I sent digitally - stupid. I will never recommend this site to anyone. There are much better options.
I only wish I could rate them negative stars…
First problem: I could only make a single room reservation, not a reservation for multiple rooms at a single hotel. Should’ve taken this first hint, but it was for a much loved nephew’s wedding so I pressed on…
Did I mention I paid the the three rooms up-front? :/
Second problem: I needed to add a name to the three separate reservations I ended up making — I was going to arrive later than the rest of my party and wanted them to be able to check in without. So I called the hotel — Hyatt Place Baltimore Inner Harbor, which…oof, please just don’t even think about staying there, folks — to add a name to all three rooms. On four separate calls I was informed that they received 6(!) reservations from the withjoy[.]com/Priceline ding-dongs (remember I only made three and only received three confirmation emails) and that five(!) of them had been cancelled, leaving me with only one king room reserved (for a party of 6). So I cancel the one reservation and booked three rooms elsewhere.
Third problem: withjoy[.]com only offers email support. Really slow, really ineffective email support. No phone number to call where it’s easier to explain things and where problems can be handled through real-time, synchronous communication. Anyway, my issue got passed about between a total of four people, each who were only capable of assuring me over email I’d get a full refund, but were in reality incapable of helping sort things out with the Hyatt Place Baltimorons of the Inner Harbor.
Fourth Problem: a week goes by, with a few email responses saying they were “looking into it” only for them to say — without offering *any* evidence whatsoever — that the Hyatt Place Baltimorons of the Inner Harbor “front desk” — the same (Balti)morons who informed me that my reservations were cancelled, mind you — said that my “reservations were confirmed on their end.” And also that “They have also confirmed that they were able to accommodate you during your stay.” And finally “Due to this, no refunds were processed.”
So to say they’re the worst wedding booking site ever is not doing it nearly enough justice. Stay away, everyone!
Unless of course you like dealing with incompetent swindlers that prey on people participating in the formation of core family memories. Believe me, my entire family will always remember this wedding, but not necessarily for all the joy. Withjoy[.]com’s superlatively crappy performance will certainly be part of the family lore, too.
Hope all wedding planners read this, take it seriously, and don’t put their wedding guest through the agony of dealing with withjoy[.]com.
I Find joy a great website to use, and I’m particularly impressed that it is free. He can’t be a little hard to navigate at times and I found myself going back backwards and forwards between different parts fairly regularly when trying to create the website. Once you’ve managed to get it figured out though it is a great website. We are nearing the stage of sending our invitation so I am looking forward to seeing the process with others using it.
WithJoy is a great wedding website. It is very intuitive and made organizing our wedding and keeping everything in one place so much easier. Highly recommended!
I’ve had issues with adding registries - they were showing as black boxes and none of the “fixes” worked. I got constant emails from guests who couldn’t figure out the registry bc of the black box. I also have been unable to get the money from our honey moon fund - it is not user friendly at all and we have had to reach out to the Joy team for help. Tbd on if they are able to help.
