Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many travelers frequently encountered frustrating flight delays, poor seating conditions, and a complete lack of communication from ground staff during their journeys. Consumers also reported dealing with unhelpful customer support teams, unexpected heavy fees for checked baggage, and sudden schedule changes that ruined their travel plans.
Some reviewers were happy with the friendly cabin crew, tasty meals, and overall smooth, on-time flights that successfully met their expectations. A few other people also mentioned that the check-in process went quite smoothly and baggage collection at the airport was very quick.

*Made to throw out our waters then charged during the flight for water*.
Flew from Bali to Melbourne 28/08/26, 5 hour flight. Flight was delayed 1.5 hours - it happens.
But then security met everyone at the gate and was searching bags for bottled water which I thought was weird because we had already gone through security and I had water bought from post security checks which I wasn’t allowed to take.
We get on the flight and the air hostess was rude to a customer I had witnessed. About 40 mins into the flight they come down the aisle with food and drinks and I asked for a water and had to pay IDR 30,000 ($2.50aud) for a 300ml bottle of water. Absolute joke. The woman next to me refused to pay and said she just wanted a cup of water and the hostess stormed off and got a cup or water.
Call me precious but that’s ridiculous getting everyone to throw out their own waters and then charge everyone for a drink on a 5 hour flight.
Ontop of that I used their AI on WhatsApp which was useless and sent an email to them with a question about additional luggage purchase which I didn’t get a reply for.
Also no tvs on the seats so won’t be flying with them again. Not worth the slightly cheaper rate.
Repeated Delays, No Communication, No Ground Support that my recent…
I regret to say that my recent experience with Batik Air was deeply disappointing — and unfortunately consistent with prior experiences.
On my onward journey (KL → Bali), the Batik Air flight was delayed by approximately one hour. During this time, passengers were left on board without meaningful updates or refreshments. This delay caused my wife and me to miss our onward connecting flight from Bali.
Upon arrival in Bali close to midnight, there were no Batik Air representatives available at the airport to provide assistance or guidance. We were effectively stranded, forced to arrange last-minute accommodation ourselves and purchase new onward tickets at our own expense. This resulted in our arrival in Adelaide being delayed by nearly 12 hours, significantly disrupting pre-arranged plans.
On the return journey, Batik Air was again delayed by approximately one hour. Boarding was chaotic and poorly managed. Despite travelling with cabin baggage only to facilitate a smoother transit, we were informed at the gate that we were required to check in our bags due to the aircraft being “too full,” which contradicted earlier information and created further confusion.
Across both legs, the consistent issues were:
• Delays
• Poor communication
• Lack of on-ground support
• Disorganised boarding
Based on my repeated experiences, punctuality and passenger management do not appear to be operational priorities. I would strongly caution travellers relying on tight connections to reconsider using Batik Air.
Unannounced eight hour delay in our departure flight time. When I finally arrived, I noticed they double charged my credit card for our tickets- that was a month ago and I’m still getting nowhere with them. Hopeless. Avoid them!
Worst airline, repeatedly reschedule the flight until the whole trip is unflightable. When requesting for refund, the refund is never reaching bank account, until today.
When you are contacting their customer support, they would just ghosting you. Avoid at all cost
I would give zero stars realistically. They change and cancel flights like crazy and do not care, they charge same for baggage as they do for the ticket and they don’t let you bring a personal item along with carry on. Looks cheap at first but ends up being more than double.
Terrible airline, zero accountability and horrible customer service!
Avoid Batik Air at all costs if you want to save your time, money, and nerves. My flight OD178 (Denpasar to Kuala Lumpur) was rescheduled and delayed, causing massive stress and chaos. They offer zero care for passengers, provide automatic template rejections, and hide behind unfair terms and conditions to avoid taking responsibility.
Even after escalating the matter to the aviation authority (CAAM), they still refuse to provide proper compensation for out-of-pocket expenses and ruined schedules. Completely unprofessional, disrespectful to customers, and utterly disappointing. Save yourself the headache and fly with anyone else!
Extremely disappointing experience on Batik Air OD121
I recently flew Batik Air OD121 from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney, an approximately 8½-hour flight, and unfortunately it was one of the worst flight experiences I have ever had.
This was my first time flying with Batik Air. I understand that food and drinks may need to be purchased, and I was completely willing to pay. I asked a crew member to purchase food and water and was told that it was coming. However, nobody ever came back to me.
This was particularly concerning because I needed water to take my medication.
I also had my call light on for more than two hours. Nobody came to assist me, and eventually I gave up and turned it off myself.
What shocked me most was how little we saw the cabin crew throughout the flight. We saw them during the safety demonstration and briefly when food was being given to passengers who had pre-ordered. After that, we barely saw them again until we were landing.
The seats were also extremely cramped, making the long flight very uncomfortable.
I am not complaining because I expected luxury or a free meal. I was willing to pay for what I wanted. I simply expected to be able to purchase water and receive basic assistance when I asked for it.
I have travelled on many flights before, and I have never experienced cabin service like this on such a long flight.
I have already submitted a formal complaint directly to Batik Air and am waiting for their response. I would not choose to fly with Batik Air again after this experience
Just a few days ago we did our return flight with batik airlines from Denpasar to Brisbane. We got mixed up with our dates which left us running through the airport to make our flight. Even though there was only 40mins until the flight was due to takeoff the hostess checked us in in record time and advised us to run. At no time did she even suggest we were too late. We were so appreciative as the plane left on time and it would have been a massive issue to rebook flights , accommodation etc. She was so understanding and we felt she understood our dilemma. The flight was smooth and event free with our luggage arriving as safely as we did.
We really can t thank them enough.
Extremely disappointed with our Batik Air flight from LBJ to DPS. The same flight was delayed repeatedly, turning a short hop into a day-long ordeal. What made it unbearable was the total absence of communication from the ground staff. No proactive updates, no clear announcements, and a complete lack of basic customer service. The level of inefficiency at the airport was mind-blowing. Zero care for passengers' time. Avoid them if you want to stick to a schedule.
A complete operational disaster and appalling customer service.
My spouse and I, both senior citizens, were booked on Flight OD205 from KLIA to Delhi. Upon our arrival at 16:25, Batik Air changed our boarding gate four separate times (G8 → C22 → H8 → C6). The final gate change happened at 17:03 for an 18:05 departure, creating an incredibly compressed timeline to navigate a massive terminal.
To make matters worse, Batik Air ground staff repeatedly gave us incorrect verbal directions, actively leading us to the wrong gates. Despite our visible difficulty as seniors trying to rush across the airport, absolutely no buggy service or mobility assistance was offered. Because of their direct misdirection and operational chaos, seven checked-in passengers—including us—missed this flight.
Their customer service response has been disgraceful. After dozens of emails, they completely ignored the issue of their staff’s misdirection, blamed the passengers entirely, refused a fare refund, and explicitly threatened legal action if I shared my experience publicly. Avoid this airline at all costs, especially if you are traveling with elderly family members who might need assistance.
Was booked on an international business class ticket with Turkish Airlines from Europe to Perth via Istanbul and Kuala Lumpur, connecting on Batik Air Malaysia. On the outbound flight, Batik Air bumped me off my flight using the usual euphemism "for operational reasons". Luckily TK rerouted me so that I still arrived with a massive delay but less so than if I had accepted OD's proposal, and in more comfort. On the return journey, Batik Air started off opening their check-in late with staff seemingly not interested in offering any reasonably efficient service. Flight departure was delayed until well into the night. Aircraft was a 737 narrow body, hardly fitting for a 6 hour flight, whose apparance made me wonder how long it would be until it would need to be scrapped for junk. Rattling through the night - I guess the pilots had to fly through turbulence because we'd be arriving on fumes if going around or over them - the seat ensured a stiff neck and a painful back. On board service was friendly enough.
After this overall experience with Batik Air I decided to lodge a complaint and claim compensation, which I was denied. I was not even offered an apology for my inconvenience. Clearly, this airline is totally indifferent towards its customers. I cannot recall having flown with a worse airline recently. Won't ever set a foot on their planes again.
Batik Air – refund eventually received, but only after extensive follow-up and escalation
UPDATE – September 2026: Batik Air has now refunded A$570.68 of the A$571.78 I originally paid, so the financial side of the matter is essentially resolved. I appreciate that the refund was ultimately processed.
However, I am leaving this review up because the process required a considerable amount of effort.
I booked Batik Air flight OD178 from Melbourne to Denpasar for 28 July 2026, originally scheduled to depart at 07:00.
Less than a day before departure, Batik Air notified me that the flight had been retimed to 13:00 due to “operational requirements”. It was then retimed again to 14:50.
The changes made my onward Indonesian flights unusable, so I had to purchase an alternative Garuda Indonesia ticket at my own expense.
I contacted Batik Air before departure and advised that I would not be travelling on OD178 and requested cancellation. I also requested a refund in writing.
Batik Air subsequently directed me to its online refund portal, but the portal returned an error and would not allow me to complete the request.
After multiple emails and calls, I was surprised to learn from Batik Air's Australian representative that the system had recorded me as a “no-show”, despite my having contacted the airline before departure.
After further escalation, Batik Air Customer Care manually recorded my refund request. The process then involved additional follow-ups and initially resulted in only a partial refund of A$118.68.
After continuing to follow up, I eventually received additional payments of A$389 and A$63, bringing the total refunded to A$570.68 out of A$571.78 paid.
I appreciate that Batik Air ultimately provided essentially the full refund. However, the amount of time, communication and escalation required to resolve an airline-initiated schedule change was disappointing.
Final outcome: refund essentially received in full, but the refund/customer-service process could have been significantly better.
Batik air is a nightmare. Please don't go by the few positive reviews. It's just horrible in all departments save a decent legroom even in economy. Staff, crew, service, aircraft condition..all pretty bad.
Horrible experience.
They delayed our flight at first and then they even changed day.
No solutions given, just an AI response to our reclaims.
More human care needed.
