Blinds To Go Review - Kanata, Ontario
The quality and fabrication of my new drapes is excellent. However, that is where my pleasure with my purchase ends. I ordered custom pleated drapes for two windows as well as double rods to accommodate both the drapes and shears behind. I was clear that I did not want to see the rod and therefore wanted the hooks to be placed high enough to hide the rod. The measurement of the drapes was done correctly to accommodate this. Now for the problems.
The drapes are double the width that is needed to cover the windows. This means that when the drapes are closed, there are too many pleats bunched together unless I manually move each one and try to get them even. I have ordered custom drapes from Blind-To-Go previously and they were not like this. Picture #1 is my previous order, picture # 2 my current order.

As well, when the new ones are opened to each side, only half the widow is unobstructed to allow light in.
When I contacted the day after installation, the response was “People wish for more fullness but I guess for you it’s too much”. Yes – that is true, it is too much for me but why would I expect the drapes to be made differently from my previous order. I did not ask for extra fullness and I don’t like the look.
The proposed resolution is that I would pay to have the width cut down or to only use one panel per window (one panel actually does cover the entire window) which would then only open to one side. In other words, I could pay for the extra material (double what was required) that I paid for but hadn’t wanted or ordered. It was then suggested I could use the two spare panels elsewhere.
The whole reason for ordering custom was to get a proper fit. I could have saved money and bought ready made drapes and may have ended up with a better fit.
On another note, when I showed the one thing I was not happy with regarding my first order (a seam on the outside of a pleat so it is obvious) I was told I should have contacted them within 30 days – not sure why because it seems they would have charged me for a correction anyway.
Overall, I will like the drapes if I can be creative and tuck some behind at the ends and double some up on the rings but feel I overpaid for too much fabric. The suggestion that I use one panel per window and use the two spare panels elsewhere is unacceptable.

Everything was good. We have used them a couple times in the past.
The area of improvement would be to reduce time for delivery and installation.

Jamil Thompson and their staff were extremely attentive during my visit. I brought a blind in that I purchased 15 years ago ... and they got it repaired under their lifetime warranty at NO CHARGE. In less then a week I had the blind back. Fabulous customer service. 5 star all the way!

did they forget to put a handle on the door. Why! it is
going to get dirty if I don't have a handle. Janet LaCount.

Hi Janet, we are sorry to hear that the handle was missing on this shade! We have contacted the showroom and they are in the process of setting up the installer to come put the handle on for you! They will be calling you shortly to help get this resolved. Thank you for your patience!
We’ve had our motorized shades for over a year. During that time they have looked and operated quite well. However the battery recently started beeping indicating that it was time to be recharged. We have the cables to do this but there are no instructions telling us what to do with the cables to initiate the charging. The end of the cable has a micro usb connector but there is no obvious place in which to plug it in. After spending 30 minutes searching for the cable port I finally found a “possible” spot in which the usb male connector might fit. It’s in a very awkward spot. I now have both batteries charging - at least I think they might be - and I see there is no LED indicator to tell me that charging is occurring. This is a very poor setup. I guess we need to wait 8 or so hours to see if we can raise and lower the shades without any beeping. That will be our only indicator that we have charged the batteries successfully.

Please let us know how / if we can help further - if you provide your order number or the name on the order when it was placed we can look up your information and call you to discuss as well.
Hi Theresa,
Thank you for the 5-star review! We’re so glad you had a great experience with our installer. We really appreciate you taking the time to share it!
I opted for the blinds without the strings. And can never get them even..if I had to do it again I would get the motorized blinds
Reply from Blinds To Go2026-08-14
Hi Jane, we are sorry to hear you are having some issues with your cordless shades. It sounds like one of the strings internally may be off/warped causing this issue because it should be able to pull straight down as long as you are using two hands on the bottom bar to pull it down. If you could please edit your review and provide your order number we can look into your order and see if we can schedule a service call for your shade to determine if it is having an issue. Thanks!
Great promp service. One complaint only……paying FULLY before installation. First time we have been required to do this and we didn’t like it very much!
