A Paid Legal Service That Delivered No Legal Help
I purchased a LegalShield membership for my brother so he could get support during a landlord dispute involving an improper rent increase, a questionable “new lease,” and concerns about discrimination against tenants receiving rental assistance. Unfortunately, the service provided was functionally useless.
The attorney assigned to us did not address the landlord’s potential pattern of withholding security deposits from tenants on assistance programs saying he "never received it", and offered no meaningful guidance beyond reading the lease aloud — something we were perfectly capable of doing ourselves. When asked about potential discrimination, he refused to comment entirely.
We were told all roommates could speak to the attorney regarding the case and that we would not be contacted during a family event. Instead, the attorney insisted he could only speak to one person and called during my younger brother’s middle school graduation, directly contradicting what the salesperson promised.
Attempting to cancel the membership was equally frustrating. LegalShield refused to cancel without a membership ID number they never provided, ignored emails, and would not allow me to cancel the plan I paid for because it was under my brother’s name. My brother had to call multiple times and send a new email exactly the way they demanded before they would even acknowledge the request.
This service wasted our time, provided no legal value, and created additional stress during an already difficult situation. I cannot recommend LegalShield to anyone seeking competent or reliable legal support.

I have been a LegalShield member since…
I have been a LegalShield member since 2020. When I lived in Connecticut, the local law firm assigned to me was outstanding. They were professional, responsive, and genuinely helpful.
Unfortunately, after moving to South Carolina and being assigned a new law firm, my experience has been completely different. During my first call, the attorney I spoke with was rude, dismissive, and made me feel like I was wasting her time. I gave the firm another chance with a second legal matter, but again I received little more than information I could have found with a simple Google search. It felt like they had no interest in providing real legal guidance or taking the time to help.
As a paying member, I expect knowledgeable, courteous service and attorneys who are willing to advocate for their clients. Sadly, that has not been my experience with this South Carolina firm. Because of the poor service I’ve received since being reassigned, I will be canceling my LegalShield membership. It’s unfortunate, because my experience in Connecticut showed me how valuable the service can be when you’re matched with a firm that truly cares.

Thank you for escalating my concerns
I reached out to legal shield with a landlord tenant urgent matter. I was assigned with a Feldman Kramer and Monaco law firm and submitted the necessary paperwork on 7/10. No one notified the lawyer that I had paperwork submitted, after the attorney found the paperwork they asked me to pay $300 for them to review the paperwork. I paid it right away. Now, a week later, the lawyer still hasn’t looked into my paperwork works, my lease expires is 6 business days and I no one addressed the urgency of this matter in a professional and appropriate way. I field a complaint against the law firm and the lawyer in the hopes that would help expedite the process.
Update: I was finally able to reach a lawyer who reviewed my paperwork and offered additional information and assistance in escalating the matter.
They even waived the $300 fee. I hope this review will keep the wheels of legal shield gearing towards justice and protecting those who need it most

I was an associate and had membership. I cancelled both this yr 2026. I had 3 people at 1 time but when I cancelled I gad 1 person. I been associate since 2017 and i received payment 2xs since 2017 when I called to ask about will i be receiving payment for my 1 person who been up there from day I cancelled. I knew it wouldn't be much but 1st the lady said once I cancelled they couldn't send me direct deposit , then she changed and said they sent me an email awhile back 2024 asking do I want $49 that was in account but you sent direct deposit the other times. She said when I didn't respond to the email I never received I forfeited the $. Make it make sense.

Do NOT waste your time or money on…
Do NOT waste your time or money on LegalShield. I had a real landlord dispute and their assigned firm, Ross & Matthews, completely screwed me over for two straight months. The first attorney they gave me could barely communicate and wrote a demand letter to send to my landlord that was flat out WRONG — thank god it never got delivered or I could’ve actually gotten sued because of her incompetence. Then they hand me off to a second attorney who takes almost a WEEK to even call me back after I send my documents. When he finally does, he’s rude and short with me on the phone, refuses to listen to recorded calls I have as direct evidence against my landlord, and then never even gives me an email to send it to. Three weeks of chasing this guy down like he’s a ghost, and he finally tells me I “don’t have a case” — without EVER reviewing a single piece of my evidence. Paid $75 to be gaslit and jerked around by two incompetent attorneys who clearly don’t read anything you send them. This firm is a joke literal bottom of the barrel attorney's and LegalShield should be embarrassed to keep them on their network. Save yourself the headache and go find a real attorney who actually cares about facts instead of giving you a lazy opinion after doing zero work.

Call Legal Aid if you may need legal advice or help
The lady I talked to assured me since I was physically unable to handle it that to call my insurance company who handled the claim to years ago. My insurance company said they would handle the claim with their lawyers which eased my mind. I have used legal aid's lawyer once before and he was great!
