What reviewers say

Reviewers overwhelmingly had a great experience with this company. Customers frequently mention that the website is extremely easy to navigate and allows them to find clear travel options effortlessly. Travelers find the online booking process to be smooth, efficient, and straightforward, enabling them to complete their ticket reservations in just a few minutes.
However, some customers also noted that they were charged unexpectedly high fees and steep markups compared to booking directly through the official train operators. Some reviewers were dissatisfied with a perceived lack of transparency regarding service charges and hidden costs discovered after completing their purchases.

I give only two stars, because of smooth booking process. Other than that I would say I was a victim of a rip-off. I paid 75 eur to you and I got the rail ticket with the stated amount 40,30 eur on it. In other words, if I purchased the ticket at the counter, I would save 35 euro. Good to know - Rail.Ninja never again.
Bad service - never want to purchase anything from them again
Update on 26 Oct: they sent me the tickets on 25 Oct (which is more than 10 days later). I complained that I already purchased new tickets and finally they said they've been proceeding a full refund.

Basically, I had the same experience as those who rated them 1 star. I booked the tickets from Seoul to Busan, and they said the payment failed. I saw the money had been deducted from my bank account, but my tickets never arrived. I emailed them, they insisted they didn't get the money. So, I contacted my bank and had to pay them so they can report this to the one who is in charge.
I normally don't fall for this trap but this time I was so convinced by their ranking on the google search engine. Later in the day, I checked the company reviews on social media and stuff and they were so bad. There is not even a mobile app. I mean, all the booking services nowadays have a mobile app to help users buy tickets easier.
My advice: Learned from my lesson. Always look for a mobile app. In my case, I found Korail app which is also much cheaper.
The web page for finding your train journey, available times, fares was very easy to use, through to booking and payment. However, when I received my email ticket this showed the price paid for two first class tickets, one of our E tickets showed second class price paid with the other the correct First-class price, puzzled or what?
But we were booked into the same Carraige, sitting together.
Something wrong here
Booked rail tix with understanding tix would be immediate or next business day as stated in their terms and conditions. 4 days later, I inquired and no understandable response. Called credit card company to dispute charge and advised Rail Ninja, who said my tix would be issued in 2 weeks. Advised Rail Ninja this was unacceptable and requested a full refund. If you try to cancel yourself, they charge $10 a ticket. This appears to be a part of their business plan.
This site is NOT a scam, but it sure is *scammy.*
It works, and it's user-friendly. They also dump a ton of money into Google Adwords so they show up first no matter which rail agency you're looking for, and even have landing pages saying they are "trusted partners" of municipal and national railways.
I looked for a long time for rail tickets from Porto to Lisbon and this site kept coming up no matter how far I dug into the Google results ... so I figured it was the way to go.
Only after I bought tickets did I realize that they had added on a fairly sizable markup vs. the official government pages (which were buried in AdWords pages back on page 2-3 of the Google results). That markup almost *DOUBLED* the price of the tickets.
Even with their very strict refund policy, I did look into doing a refund because even with their fees and penalties I could still save some Euro by refunding and buying through the official agencies ... but I didn't want to risk it the day before the trip.
Our tickets worked fine, but I definitely feel like I got fleeced on this one.
Do your homework before you use booking sites like these
The service is great, but the price excessive - if you use their service, your ticket is going to cost almost double. Save your money and book directly with the provider of the service.
Bought a train ticket Faro - Lisboa in Portugal , rail ninja appears first in the search engine , they charged 95 Euro then sent an email saying the reservation was canceled due to no tickets available online then said they would refund me in max a week . U don t charge people if u can t provide the service and u don t refund them after a week , i find it dishonest.
I booked 4 return tickets for my family from Penang to KUala Lumpur.
1. The price was twice the
actual price.
2. They took a day to process my ticket which is normally instant if you booked directly with the Train company.
3. I asked for cancellation of 2 of the tickets on the return trip. I received confusing messages. I was kept in the dark whether I can cancel or not. I was finally informed that I CANNOT CANCEL PARTIAL TICKETS.
I DID NOT want to cancel the other two tickets and so, I left the matter aside assuming that my tickets were all valid.
Keep in my mind, I did not get any further intimation or REVISED TICKETS from Rail Ninja.
When we tried to get into the train, we found out that all our tickets were invalid. And when we spoke to the Train duty manager, he confirmed that two passengers had their tickets and he allowed them to travel while I had to buy extra tickets.
4. I contacted the company asking for clarification and they informed that two tickets have been cancelled and j neither got any intimation nor my money back.
After I wrote a strong email, they refunded 60% of the cancelled tickets against the 80% shown in their page.
You might be a lucky one with no problems or you might have trouble like one of us. There is definitely a 30 to 40% chance of trouble.
However, you will DEFINITELY PAY DOUBLE!
Please book directly with the right people to have a 100% hassle free and happy journey
This Company Does Not Instill Much Confidence! Stay Away!!
Second edit: The QR code provided by Rail Ninja worked as advertised. I showed the code to the ticket agent at the station who gave us our actual printed ticket. Therefore, I have changed my star rating to 3/5 (from the original 1/5). I still feel strongly that my credit card should not have been charged until Rail Ninja was ready to issue the QR code, and I should not have had to query the company to get them to send me the code that I paid for weeks in advance.

Please read my edited additional comment below. I have changed my star rating from 1 to 2 and altered the title of the review.

This is my original review:
DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM! I purchased tickets for a Belfast to Dublin trip about 90 days prior to our travel date. Our credit card was charged and I received a receipt stating that the tickets would be emailed closer to the travel date. When the tickets had not arrived 4 weeks out (days before our departure from the U.S.), I became concerned and contacted the company, only to receive an immediate automated response that they were "working on the issue". If you look at the Rail Ninja reviews on TrustPilot, you will see that the only positive reviews are from "Invited" reviewers. The non-invited reviewers are consistently negative. If I had known this company was based in China, I would have never purchased from them. I am at fault for not adequately researching before buying. I hope you will not make the same mistake.

One day after I wrote this review, I received an email from Rail Ninja with QR codes that I was to print and bring with me to the departure station where a ticket will be issued. Upon researching further, this appears to be the same method of issuing eTickets as used by Translink, the company that runs the Northern Ireland rail system. So, I now have some degree of confidence that I have an actual ticket. However, I should not have had to query the company to receive the ticket, and my credit card should NOT have been charged until the ticket was actually issued. We leave soon. I will update this post further upon my return.
On a recent trip to Norway, we paid for 1st class tickets (it was a 6.5 hour journey) but Rail.Ninja allocated coach tickets. I’ve looked for a refund but have heard nothing (early July).
Update: Jul 28: have received emails yesterday and today informing me that a partial refund is on its way to me. Will update again when this happens.
Update: Jul 30: a partial refund arrived. Obviously, I would've preferred to have been allocated the seats I'd booked and paid for, but at least this is something.
The booking system sucks !
Try booking as follows
Select date of travel
Then select train time and seat
Book and whoopee the system auto fills with todays date !
But don’t worry as tickets are flexible and the company quickly amends, or do they ??
As suggested, I booked my train connection for traveling in Portugal in advance. I paid my $54 and a few weeks later before my trip received my confirmation/ e-ticket. Everything was good until I realized that railninja had charged me $54 for a €9.30 fare ( which is about $10) !!!! Way overcharged and I will never book with them again.
We bought 4 r/t tickets from Lisbon to Porto. The system worked, but it looks like our total cost is about double the face value of the tickets. That is far, far too much of a markup to them. Would never use again.
As I had difficulty finding the Greek national train operator on the net, I ended up with ordering here. I only got my ticket three weeks later and after two emails to them - and I had paid 86USD to them when reserving while normal price is 53€, around 50% more. - In Greece use trainose.gr instead, the operator, in other countries also be sure to find it. -Since they in fact refunded a payment in a different case because of unavailability and their customer service responded me, I feel obliged to give them two stars. But avoid them. - Trustpilot should take a look at the statistical pattern of stars in the reviews - it certainly looks suspicious
I was shocked when I realized the service fee added to our train ticket from Faro to Porto. A 54€ ticket cost me 94€! Of course they don’t include the service fee in the invoice only the total price. I realized the additional cost when I saw the ticket price of 54€! Wish I’d seen this sooner, I would’ve demanded a refund and booked direct with the train app! I’m all for paying a service fee, but this charge is criminal!!
I'm in Europe trying to negotiate train travel. Great I can get tickets aboard a train. I'll get tickets tomorrow great. Five days later I'm told not available but for$100 more, they can book me.
I checked online and I got my own tickets for same train. Maybe us$30 more. I did not want to be held hostage by rail ninja, which is how I felt. I requested a refund and got it.
Thankful.
