Not worth a dime!
Speechify is , sadly, another money grubbing app.
I have paid for the yearly subscription, up front, and was shockingly surprised by the extremely poor choice of free book library that they offer. If the book happens to be available - you need to PAY (amount varies) extra. Very nice pyramid scam.
Now, if your choice of book is NOT AVAILABLE, but you happen to have it handy: you can “ scan it “( take pictures through your phone to the annoying infinity), and this app will read it to you….. BUT WAIT! There IS A CATCH……
If there are words in the parentheses- this AI will not recognize it and will NOT READ IT AT ALL.
Also, when this “ scanning” process goes through the page- please remember THERE IS AN INSIDE CREASE THAT THE CAMERA WILL NOT CATCH, therefore ( and yet again) this SUPERSMART AI, WILL NOT READ AT
ALL.
There are also other minor glitches, but I will not bother with those. Why don’t you just buy this crsp-app like I did and deal with it, like I am.

This is a really really cool piece of software. I use it a lot. It really helps me especially since I have a reading disability. I'm dyslexic, which has caused me to have very slow reading ability and low comprehension. I'm 70 years old. I've suffered with this problem all my life and this product is a solution to that problem. Great software. I recommend it.
Also I was having a little difficulty with the app and got on to the support chat. A fellow by the name of Chris got on that chat and, very quickly, efficiently, and professionally, was able to resolve my problem and get me satisfied that I have not only a good piece of software but it's supported by a very competent, professional, and helpful team of people. This app literally changed my life. I am a teacher in higher education which means I have to mark thousands of essays at different points in the academic year. As any teacher will know, marking is a very demanding, time consuming and stressful job. To be able to listen to the essays instead of just reading them has made this process much more efficient, faster, easier and in all honesty, less painful.
I have been using Speechify for 3 years now and it has become better and better with time. Costumer service has always been quite reliable and prompt to provide solutions when necessary. Recently Chris was very helpful.

It's been 24 hours trying to get a refund with this company, and I haven't heard back from them. There isn't any customer service number to reach them. I was charged for a subscription I haven't used and contacted them less than 5 minutes after my payment was processed.

Chris with customer service was great in helping me confirm that I had cancelled the service and wouldn’t be charged going forward.
I deleted the service once I realized that all the book reading is AI using the actors voices. The problem with that involves inconsistent pronunciations, timing, reading things on screen we wouldn’t read or running them together, ie. the chapter number inserted between the paragraphs with no spacing.
They use open domain books to offer free titles which is fine but poor quality translations that can change the meaning.
Ie. their version had Tolstoy calling older women “ugly” and it was confusing so I checked another version and it used the word “plain.”
These might be minor complaints, but after having read 1896 days (and counting) with Kindle Unlimited, I decided I will just keep reading myself.
I guess we still need humans to read books.
