Superprof's subscription model is deceptive.
I wanted to ask a tutor a simple question before committing to any lessons. The tutor's profile stated that she was willing to travel, so I messaged her to ask which locations she could travel to. However, tutors cannot reply to messages unless they first accept a tutoring request.
Because of this, the tutor accepted my lesson request simply so she could respond. She then told me that she was actually unable to travel, meaning I was charged for a request that I only made because the platform's messaging system gave me no other way to communicate with her.
When I contacted Superprof, they told me I could avoid being charged by cancelling the request before the tutor accepted it. But if I had done that, the tutor would never have been able to reply to my question in the first place.
So I either risk being charged just to ask a basic question, or cancel the request and receive no response at all. It's a poorly designed system that pressures users into making commitments before they have the information they need.
The subscription model is misleading and unfair.

From a tutor's point of view, this site has a good interface, and has a good way of being reached by students. I understand, though, that students have to pay a subscription in order to make contact. This is probably why I don't get as many students as I thought I would, despite being a tutor of two very different subjects. It's still quite good though, and I will persevere.

Perfect! I really enjoy teaching and learning on Superprof UK.
One improvement I would love to see is the option for tutors to receive payments directly to their bank accounts instead of PayPal.
It would also be great if lesson packages could renew automatically each month. For example, if a student usually takes eight lessons per month, the package could automatically renew with the same schedule, unless the student chooses to make changes or cancel.
Overall, my experience with Superprof has been excellent. The platform is easy to use, and I've had a great experience with my students. I would definitely recommend Superprof to both tutors and students.

I have been teaching on Superprof for a few years and have some lovely hard-working students. I always advise them to cancel the student pass once we start lessons so they are no longer charged every month. They only pay for each lesson they have. I find it works better if we book single lessons each week rather than a block of lessons. Occasionally I have problems logging on to the site, but this has only happened a few times in a few years.
I have seen some reviews saying that Superprof is a scam, but it isn't abd it worries me that potential students will be put off by that. I'm sure people have their problems sometimes, but it is a legitimate site and has linked me to lots of students. I earn a decent income from teaching online, and Superprof is invaluable to me.

Don't spend any time on this website. They'll rip you off just for browsing teachers' profiles.
I only contacted one teacher to try a free lesson, which I didn't even like. They then charged me £39 a month for 8 months without me realizing it!!!!!
They refused to refund me.

This website takes your card details and automatically enrolls you onto a monthly subscription without your consent. Lots of people have lost a lot of money to this company. I only noticed after losing nearly 80 pounds from my bank account. When I logged into the website, it took me a long time to find anything that might even suggest a subscription was running. Many people have reported this website as a scam because of these deceitful practices. A terrible unethical company.

Thought I was paying for lessons
Thought I was paying for lessons, paid a subscription for £39 thinking it was lesson credit which is wasn’t. So ended up costing me nearly £100 to have my first lesson. The £39 was only for a subscription to the app to be able to contact tutors. Total waste of money. Google them instead.
Re: Superprof reply. No thank you I don’t want to discuss this further. I have prewarned all 16 fellow apprentices at my work who are about to start college and are looking for personal tutors to help them, that they can easily find personal tutors for free rather then Superprof hiding the connection and charging a £39 per month subscription and then paying the tutor only half of what I paid for the lesson by google searching and using ChatGPT. Thank you taking £39 from me just so I was able to connect with 1 tutor. P.s People wanting to contact tutors easily should try Preply also. You can contact them freely to see if they suit your needs.

I found 2 great tutors, however it is a shame that we have to utilise this service to find tutors. I paid for the initial month & found my tutor within that time, however the monthly charge is not clearly advertised upfront & I have just realised that they have been taking £39 out of my account for the last 5 months (£195 in total), without sending any monthly notifications, invoices or receipts & I have not used the service in that time. They have now offered a free month, however I no longer require a tutor, so this is completely useless to me.

I started online tutoring on superprof and got my first student from there. A super simple, easy to use and convenient website. Safeguards tutors and offers secure online payments, although the limit on ads (5 max) can be hassle but its still good for a free account.
Ridiculous they want payment of £39 simply for sending a message to a tutor. Do you even want people to find tutors? Your competitors all allow students and tutors to communicate free of charge. Your business model is dogwater
