The customer service is very confusing and each person I spoke with seemed to give me conflicting information. Set up was horrible and I have tried to deactivate my business for several weeks. I finally spoke with a support member who emailed me a deactivation link. I would not use this platform again!

I've been a behind the bar for 20 years
I've been a bartender for 20 years, recently moved to the management. I have never dealt with incompetence and just nonchalance like I have when dealing with Toast and their 'employees' Wild that they got as big as they did.

Strong solution in Canada - total miss in lack of analytics
I work with a number of clients who utilize Toast to power their businesses ranging from 40k per month to 200k+ per month in transactions. I have to say, the platform is strong, and tools like their automated marketing and email marketing are some of the better options available.
With that said, you CAN NOT integrate Toast with 3rd party analytics in Canada. This is possible with the right account type in the US, but what they call "international" accounts can not have 3rd party tracking, like Google Analytics.
So if you are running ads on meta, or google, or youtube... you can not track conversions to make your ad campaigns better if your business is outside of the USA.
This is absolutely insane, and such a simple thing to solve. Customer service takes a long time to figure it out as well. I think toast can be great for small businesses - but this needs to be solved for any business investing in ads (which is a lot of them).
Don’t use this app!! Order directly from the restaurant or go and order in person! The restaurant never received our order and they refuse to refund monies spent and told us to have the restaurant reach out to them and hung up!! Tf?!?

There is absolutely ZERO recourse for a consumer to report issues with Toast other than their automated maze - if you can even get to their automated phone maze or foreign call center. We do not have a Toast account. Toast has been sending us messages about reservations we did not make under names of people we do not know. There is no way to contact Toast about this, and we're left trying to figure out how to avoid being defrauded.
These cute little internet app companies really should be legally required to have and post a genera; customer support number with an option to talk to humans - for all the issues that they did not anticipate.

Utter joke
Utter joke. The loyalty points don’t work. Every time I visit the same restaurant it acts like it’s the first time I’ve been. The points tracked for one round of drinks but not another. It’s just utterly unreliable.
And there is NO SUPPORT.

They are sales people
They are sales people, they do not care about you or your small business. I informed them of my internet restrictions and they said it was fine but it’s not. This system is horrible if it’s not using fiber cables. They ignored multiple emails. They charge $15 for charge backs and honestly I never win the case. Go with clover, 2 of my buddies who own restaurants have clover and they don’t have the same issues. I can’t wait for my contract to be over

I ORDERED AND I DID NOT LEAVE A TIP AND…
I ORDERED AND I DID NOT LEAVE A TIP AND THEY AUTOMATICALLY ADDED A TIP. VERY WRONG AND ITS STEALING
Toast is great, very robust and capable. But some things need to be reworked to improve usability. catering and events as well as, reservations and experiences. Both of which need some workflow improvements. For example: if I need to turn off reservations for a specific section of the restaurant for a specific time frame, I need to go through a big process to tell the system all the times and areas that I AM taking reservations, which it will then "turn off" reservations for that specific section. Does it work, yes, but its quite a complicated process, when I should just be able to select a bunch of tables, select a date, select a time frame and hit a button to turn them off. If there is an easier way to do all this, it is not obvious enough for me to see it and change my workflow, so at a minimum communicating the best practices for different workflows could be improved. At a maximum a UI redesign would be beneficial. I can only give out of 5 stars but if it were a percentage of 100 for how I feel about toast, it would be a 95%. this is a great system, and your company and crew does fantastic work! Some things could jsut be a bit easier! Thanks for listening!
I had a very disappointing experience with Toast POS. During the sales process, they made several promises about pricing and features, which heavily influenced my decision to sign up. However, once everything was finalized, those terms suddenly changed.
When I raised the issue, I was told there was no documentation to support the original offers—despite the fact that I have saved chat conversations clearly outlining what was promised. This lack of accountability is extremely frustrating and unprofessional.
It feels like the salesperson misrepresented the product and terms just to close the deal. Transparency and honesty are critical in any business relationship, and unfortunately, that was completely lacking here.
Overall, I would not recommend Toast POS based on my experience. Be very cautious, get everything in writing, and double-check all terms before committing.
My employer moved to Toast Payroll in September of 2025. Toast imported all employees and set up the payroll profiles for each. During that time and currently, I was a remote worker living and working in Delaware for a business based in Maryland. When my paychecks started coming with Maryland taxes and not Delaware taxes, and also that my Delaware paid leave wasn't being subtracted, I contacted Toast, along with the owner of our company, and the accountant. From October until now. I have sent numerous communications asking for help, only to have them blame me for their not uploading my profile correctly, nor honoring the tax forms I already had in place, nor responding in a reasonable amount of time with clear instructions on how to get this resolved. I sent well over 75 messages asking for help and spoke to well over 20 people with their company. Now I have to pay $2800 in taxes for their mistakes. They have never offered to pay any portion of the tax liability nor apologized for their part in this issue. Do not trust Toast. This is just one drop in the bucket of all the issues I've seen, heard about, or experienced while using their platform

Disaster to onboard. Software is constantly causing issues with our customers. Toast support is absolute garbage. Most of the time support can't even assist you.

You need to watch the tipping through the APP. Twice now I have seen the App Default to a higher tip after I confirmed the order. I put in a 15% tip at $12, it showed in the confirmation page that it was a 15% @$12 and after I confirmed the charge it charged a $17 tip.

Why the restaurant keeps my info after booking? This is ilegal and hopefully they get prosecuted
It can’t distinguish between debit and credit card. So, it charges an extra 2% for debit and credit card. There shouldn’t be a fee for debit card. Plus there is not an option for echecke. So everyone has to pay an extra 2%. This, I won’t order from or visit an establishment that uses Toast Tab.

HORRIBLE--Business Killer
Must to avoid for restaurants seeking to take online orders. Has completely stopped working for a restaurant I formerly regularly ordered takeout from--freezes up with any browser I use on my laptop or phone, and their phone app also doesn't work with iOS although you can download it from the Apple app store.

I can’t wait for my contract with Toast…
I can’t wait for my contract with Toast to end. The system itself is great, but everything else about this company has been a nightmare.
As a small, family-owned business, this experience has made one thing very clear — Toast does not care about businesses like ours. If you are not a large corporate account, do not expect real support when something goes wrong.
We’ve been misled about discounts, charged for things we don’t have, had corrections made only for those discounts to be taken away, and dealt with ongoing issues related to our company name changes. It’s been constant problems with no accountability.
Now it’s escalated into something that is actively hurting our business.
Our Toast checking account (basically an account where a percentage of our daily revenue is set aside for things like sales tax and payroll) has money in it — money we have successfully used before for payments and transfers. For the past two weeks, transfers have failed, saying the account “does not exist,” even though everything is correct.
We’ve reached out multiple times through multiple channels and have gotten nowhere. No answers. No ownership. Just being passed around.
Because of this, we can’t access our own money. Our account has gone negative, payroll is being returned, and we’re now facing hundreds of dollars in fees — all caused by Toast’s failure to resolve an issue on their end.
This isn’t just frustrating — it’s damaging to a small business trying to operate.
If you are a small or family-owned business, be very careful. Based on our experience, Toast can absolutely hurt your business when something goes wrong, and you may be left dealing with the consequences alone.
£30 for two sandwiches and 3 drinks. I got 4 crisps on the plate. Then they forgot my drink in the blender. Had to wait (again) in a store with only 3 other customers to ask where it was. Service slow, and food not worth it.
