Consumers frequently reported receiving defective items straight out of the box, noting that various machines often failed quickly or arrived missing essential components. People also expressed deep frustration over return policies, highlighting unexpected restocking fees, unhelpful store managers, and rigid receipt requirements. Some reviewers were happy with the affordable pricing, mentioning that they always managed to secure a good deal on various store items. A few other people also felt that certain power tools and equipment exceeded expectations, lasting for many years of regular use without any major functional issues.

What people say

Harbor "Bait and Switch" Freight.

Just ended a phone call with HF "customer (no)service". Pretty clear, that the HF marketing strategy is: Flood the internet with worthless "in store only" coupons to dupe customers into the store (knowing that stores have zero inventory). It gets worse: The website and app USED TO HAVE A "search nearby stores" feature, which theoretically allowed customers to verify ACTUAL in-stock quantity, thus avoiding a useless trip to the store. OMG! That would tip off customers about the (not in stock) scam, so it's recently been deleted! Honest companies that run sale promotions, usually offer online ordering options, or rain checks, as a service to customers. HF does exactly the opposite, and it's no mistake. Clearly, HF deserves zero stars for a purposeful, deceptive scam operation. Longtime (former) inside-track-club member here.

Do not buy the $70 Cen-Tech 630 peek…

Do not buy the $70 Cen-Tech 630 peek amp jump start from Harbour Frieght.. the charger will just stop working.. it stops charging, no lights come on, no longer can you jump start your car, leaving you stranded. No warranty after 90 days. You may be able to use them as a small boat anchor.

WELL WE BOUGHT A PREDATOR GENERATOR…

WELL WE BOUGHT A PREDATOR GENERATOR OCTOBER 31 2025 I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE'S A 90 DAY RETURN POLICY BUT YOU WOULD THINK THAT THEY WOULD WANT TO WORK WITH YOU ON RETURNING AND EXCHANGES SINCE YOU BUY A MEMBERSHIP BUT THEY WOULD RATHER YOU FREEZE THAN TO OFFER EXCHANGES AT LEAST ONCE BUT THEY WOULD RATHER IF YOU DON'T FREEZE TO BUY ANOTHER ONE WE TALKED ABOUT IT TO THEM TODAY

SAME AS BAIT AND SWITCH

I drove 100 mile round trip to buy a log splitter. It not only wasn't in stock at that store it isn"t available in 10 different stores we checked. It looks like they would take the item down if there wasn't any stock to be had. I called customer service and received no help whatsoever! THIS CUSTOMER WON'T BE BACK!!!

wasted Time

At no point in the last 9 months have I been able to access their website to confirm that they have the product available online or in the store. Results, 5 trips that were Absolute wastes of time and money going there to turn around and having to order from another retailer. Every time the store employees either cannot by phone or in person say when and/ or if the item will or won't be available. The general attitude seems to be that wasting my time and energy going there is my mistake.

Useless coupons

Love it when a chain sends out so called coupons to obtain a mailing list for spam and never stock up on the inventory that are included on coupons. I called 4 local stores after going to Keller store for latest store freebies and they were out day coupon started. Other stores were out quickly after. Nice scam to get people in the stores. Their products are hit and miss with some quality based and some made very cheaply. Floor jacks and power hand tools will not last and same with parts cleaners do buyer beware.

Spent a fortune, they don't even care

I have spent a small fortune at the local Harbor Freight store and joined Inside Track to be made aware of deals and discounts. I received notice of a deal today, so I went to the store to purchase an item only to be told that I don't have a membership and further that they don't even show most of the purchases that I have made in the last 12 months, including ALL of the major ones. So much for customer loyalty. When the business doesn't care any more about their customers than this, why would anyone be loyal?

This store is consistently out of stock…

This store is consistently out of stock on items they advertise and there are always excuses for why. The management here is ineffective and clearly in over their head. They spend money on remodeling the store but do not keep shelves stocked. Customer service is severely lacking. Going there is very frustrating and more trouble than it is worth.

Does not honor returning inferior merchandise

Bought a tire puncture kit. Got a flat tire. Tried using the device, it bent and was unusable. Got the tire fixed at Costco. Returned to Harbor Freight. I did not have a receipt but it was labeled Harbor Freight I just wanted a kit that worked. I was not a member of their rewards program so I did not have a phone or other way for my purchase to be tracked. They wanted my ID but I was not comfortable with that. I will not be returning to Harbor Freight.

Harbor Freight is a total chicken s**t…

Harbor Freight is a total chicken s**t outfit. And they are morons too. Chicken S**t: they sold me a dried out epoxy pkg that was not usable and, unbeknownst to me, the paper receipt says "all sales are final." I could hardly squeeze the paste out of the A and B tubes. I go back to get it replaced and I'm informed that all sales on that item are final and there is nothing they can do, given company policy. The message is "sure, we sold you a defective product but that's your problem, not ours" - based on the printed comment on the receipt. That response is not acceptable. Morons: last 20 years I've spent at least $100/year at HF. And, otherwise, that would likely continue for the next 10 years. To replace a product that they sold me for $5, would likely cost HF about $1. So, to maintain this anti-consumer policy and save a $1 for the bottom line, they have lost a customer that was likely to spend $1,000 over the next 10 years, resulting in a profit of $500. Save $1 and forego $500. Morons! I will never, ever spend another dime at Harbor Freight. Cheerz, Larry Grant

Huffing and puffing cashier

I went the Harbor Freight store on 9649 Lost Knife Rd Gaithersburg MD 20877. I provided a coupon but the total price seemed high. I asked the cashier if she scanned the coupon. She said yes. After getting my receipt, I noticed the coupon did not scan. I advised her the coupon did not scan. She huffed and puffed and said she scanned the coupon and there is nothing else she can do. I asked for a supervisor. She did not want to call a supervisor so she said the coupon doesn't work. I asked for a refund. She huffed and puffed again as if I'm now bothering her now. She wanted to make it as difficult as possible on purpose so she said I need to provided a driver's license number and phone number. The customer prior to me returned an open box item but she never asked for such info. So I asked why and she said it is required with a grin on her face. My biggest disappointment was the way the cashier spoke to me as if I was bothering her, very short, and providing BS responses.

I bought a titanium welder 125 in the palm coast store and it was defective. went back to the store to get a replacement and they didnt have one but was told by the manager they will get one tomorrow for me. went back and didnt have one , another manager told me they dont do that. I will have to go all the way to st augustine to get it. so I wanted to return it and they want to charge me a restocking fee of 25 dollars. what a bunch of thieves, I will never buy anything from there again and I am a member. NEVER WILL i buy a tool from there again.

Well my husband buys there all the time…

Well my husband buys there all the time and is never is disappointed with his purchases at Harbor freight. That's a plus but I have an issue when I visit a store with him and I see these items out on display for everyone to have easy access to buy and do whatever. I believe these items should be under lock and key and when purchasing you ask for ID. I speak of machetes, blades, knives etc....Please consider the idea!! Thanks for your time
