Difficulties setting up and getting into MySterling. Had to keep on phoning to get things sorted. My 2 daughters' account were getting mixed up

First Sweet but Sour later

Customer services is no doubt Excellent but price jumps from online purchase to phone calls contact once taken through the same information again. End result is not only time consuming but also more costly. No idea it is a deliberate tactic or and an automatic diversion when system automatically divert you to call insurer. On the other hand, once all accepted and paid the policy does not show on national insurance database until a day or two. Having been stopped by the Police for no insurance was showing on their system therefore I had to cary insurance certificate copy in the car. Called the broker three times to draw attention.

Everything fine, but the fact that I was able to find an otherwise identical quote by Sterling through another intermediary for about 10% less within a day makes a mockery of the idea that insurance premia are set based on risk.

Do not bother to waste your time.

Do not bother to waste your time if you read a Google advert for cheap car insurance for pensioners. After answering all questions including exact date of passing test, the quote was over three times the best decent cover for 5 star deal.

App and website not user friendly

Website and app are both glitchy and making changes to the policy is very difficult, I was trying to change my number plate on my policy and it took 3 days for the app to work and let me change it in the process of this difficulty I filled in the form on the app for help and never received any response.

Steer clear of Sterling

Sterling is a broker, not an insurance company. I raised a query and they attempted to charge me for it weeks later, despite my instructions, which they were able to read to me from the chat. Their human customer service is very good, once you hold long enough to speak to them. Separate to my most recent interaction, they asked my opinion about new drivers after refusing to quote for adding a new driver to our policy. I appreciate insurance is transactional, but this showed a real lack of joined up thinking. As a broker rather than an insurer, they are quite inflexible so I will not be purchasing car insurance from them next year or other products, regardless of price. Avoid or at least proceed with caution. (I was asked by Sterling for a review using a different email so this wasn't strictly an unprompted review.)

Dislike: The excessive security questions as more than necessary and don't actually validate anything The waiting time for an answer The 'chat' bot which is useless The failure for the second year to include the statutory windscreen insurance disk The marketing question added to the insurance pack stating need to complete and return when it isn't a requirement Likes: Staff are very friendly when you eventually get through.

Incompetent staff. Literally take the money as a broker and provide no support after that fact. Pricing is competitive i have to give them that but avoid them like the plague

As nervous as I was, this was not necessary. The lady from Sterling was very helpful and made this so painless (sorry I don't remember the name 😩 as I said I was anticipating confusion from myself and forgetting something important!) Thank you very much, great efficient and quick service.

Won't be using this insurance company again

Very long wait for calls to be answered, transferred between several departments,again with long wait times,no one person seeming able to deal with a simple change of vehicle,quote increasing over one hundred pounds between being quoted and buying the car,just one day. Had phoned the day earlier so the process would be quick and easy at the dealership,instead another hour on the phone going through all the exact same details despite being assured the quote was saved. And after all this receive constant messages to confirm terms and conditions with no means of doing so resulting in yet another long phone call to resolve this issue, apparently a known problem.The whole process was tiring, frustrating and expensive,having used HIC for many years, previously having received great customer service with calls always answered promptly it seems standards have sadly plummeted since becoming Sterling,You lost my motorcycle insurance this year and will be taking my car insurance elsewhere next year.very disappointed. This review relates to the company and there phone systems not the staff,who once managed to get through to were very professional.
