What people say

Victory 1 cruising the Great Lakes…

There needs to more time given on excursions. Need to have better breakfast hours to coincide with early excursions. Mostly elderly folks need bathroom time after eating. Never met our cabin steward, which we thought was odd! Only through notes left on bed. Snacks need to be available especially when returning from an excursion. We tried to get some ice cream one day and we were told the grill was closed so no access to the freezer where it was located. Entertainment was great! Loved that their music choices were applicable to the crowd!! It would be nice to have somewhere other than a sit down dinner every night, similar to having the lunch buffet. It would be nice to have more outside seating. Our weather was beautiful but no where to sit outside, couch didn’t have cushions on it, and there was only 2. The “sun deck” didn’t have any chairs!

Great Experience

We enjoyed our Victory cruise very much. After many cruises, we are now sold on small ship cruising and plan to sail again on the Victory. We were happily engaged by the talks and informal conversations to be had with Will on the observation deck. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and found all of service workers pleasant and always ready to help. We particularly appreciated the friendly service of Jack in the Coastal Kitchen who helped to make the cruise even more enjoyable. We plan to see all of you again soon.

First comment.

Boat and crowds were comfortably small-ish. Most of the pay-for shore excursions were quite worthwhile and educational. LakeLorian is quite a treasure for you; his backgr9ound is a perfect fit. His presentations are 9stars (on a Fivestar Scale!), since he does not NEED to brag, just be himself. *** On the flop side: your choice of Muuzakk (blaring trumpet and outoftune saxophone) for a whole week, might explain why some passengers may have chosen to drown themselves. Shape up or turn off permanently.

To a person the staff was engaging

To a person the staff was engaging, responsive and came across as genuinely enjoying their work. We were in the owner's suite so accommodations were exceptional after they removed the queen bed and installed to twins at our request. By the way we were told twice by separate victory personnel on the phone during summer that could not be done in the suites. Every meal was enjoyed and preparations/menu design was something we looked forward to at each meal. Tours were all good and met our expectations.

I had never sailed on a small ship and wasn’t sure I’d like it, but I loved it! The service was great and getting to know the staff and seeing them every day was fun. A special thank you to Jose, who always knew my favorite drink and was always ready with it! Our room steward was great and was ready to meet all our requests. I wasn’t prepared for the same band playing every night instead of a variety of entertainment as on larger ships, but they were fantastic!!! Mickey’s lectures were so informative and entertaining. All the shore excursions were well organized and covered everything I wanted to see in every city.

Not as exciting as we had hoped for.

We thought the food and all of the staff were excellent. The staff all went above and beyond to fulfill any and all of our needs and wants! They were pleasant and professional! Except for having to get used to the fact that I couldn't reach my feet to wash them in the tiny shower, everything in our room was very nice. I also thought that the closet space and drawer space was extremely adequate. The only complaint, if you will that I have about the Tours was that I did not think the stops in Escanaba and Sault Ste. Marie were very appealing. In Escanaba we supposedly took an excursion to a museum and a winery. What we actually did was go to an art class given by one of the most delightful women I have ever met. However, I'm not sure I would call the store and art museum. From there we walked down the street to the winery. The women were so very nice and also accommodating. However, to be honest, I thought the wine was awful! I am a wine drinker by the way! If we had gone during the week perhaps some of the town would have been open and we could've enjoyed a little more but it was like a ghost town. As far as Sault Ste. Marie goes, the locks of course, were very interesting but we had already gone through them and all the town had to offer was basically T-shirt shops. All in all we did have a very nice time.

Great staff

Great staff, excellent food and a wonderful experience. I would like to offer some improvements to your excursions. I think you should have a hop on hop off bus. I felt that I didn’t have enough time in some of the venues we visited. A hop on hop off bus would allow you spend more time in the places I wanted to see. The entertainment was great, but a night off with some local talent would have been appreciated. The information provided on your website was great, but if you missed the 5:15 talk you really didn’t know what to do, I.e Detroit where we didn’t know there were all kinds of things to do around the ship.

Everyone should cruise the Great Lakes on Victory

What made this trip great is the staff. Always helpful and happy, and treated everyone with kindness and respect. The cruise ship, although older, is very well maintained and perfectly clean at all times. The included shore excursions were very good. The one thing I would recommend is that there be a shuttle bus going back to the ship between 11am and 3pm at the Henry Ford Museum. Going back to the ship at 11am was not enough time and waiting until 3pm was a little long. But that is my only suggestion on that. The day totally on the lake was so nice and the staff had so many interesting things planned that there was not enough time to do them all. The afternoon tea was especially nice. Our group had a wonderful time.

I was surprised that the ship docked in Toronto at 6 AM. I was sent a memo that I should not make airline reservations until after 2 PM because the ship might take longer to go through the locks. That is an 8 hour difference. That is absurd as l had to wait until 2:45 PM f or by first flight. Consequently, I was waiting Chicago for a flight to Boise that was at & PM .
