A few travelers additionally felt that outdoor seating areas were somewhat limited during the voyage.

Likes:
the room was well maintained by the attendant. The ship was clean. On and off the ship process was good. Overall the physical ship was good. The waiter service was good.
Dislikes:
Communication was insufficient. The onboard website was weak. The food quality showed an inattention to detail. Every breakfast the scrambled eggs were undercooked! Food flavor was underwhelming.
the experience was good in these areas, staff(especially our cabin steward, Agnelo and the bartenders) excursions, food, guides used in the excursions, general organization.
We can't give more than an average grade due to the problem with our room. We were originally on the 3rd floor (347) but it was very difficult to get out of the bed on the right side due to its closeness to the window. We upgraded to the 4th floor (spent $1400 to do so) but beginning about 4:30 every morning there was a banging noise that didn't stop til about 6:30. Agnelo reached out to his boss and although they tried to solve the problem (some type of vacuum system issue) there was nothing to be done. So we spent the rest of trip being awakened every morning. Obviously this interfered with our enjoyment of activities. My husband spoke with the man in charge of this situation and asked for a refund for our upgrade charge. We have heard nothing about our request. If we were asked about the trip, which we have been, we had to be honest about the noise issue. We really couldn't a positive assessment due to this problem, which is too bad because the rest of the experience was excellent
Overall this was a great cruise. Starting with the experience in Toronto. Really enjoyed the premium excursion of Toronto on the day we embarked. Registration was quick and easy. this itinerary and the value was great. I enjoyed the excursions, there were several options and I booked a mix of included and premium excursions. The staff was very friendly and personable. Kudos to the whole crew but especially to Irene ((my room attendant). The food and drink was varied, well presented, and good. I enjoyed the nightly entertainment. I would say this was a more traditional cruise, which is what is enjoy. I recommend this All 5 Lakes itinerary and Victory Cruise Line.
Victory 2 was a very comfortable well appointed ship. The one thing lacking was their dinning experience. Almost every night, myself and someone in my party had to send a meal back because it was not cooked properly, especially the fillets which were hardly ever cooked properly. I submitted a mid cruise critique hoping someone might fix the problem, but it was ignored.
Additionally, the choices on the Grill and main dinning were very limited.
Your attention to detail and personal connection with each passenger made the cruise a wonderful experience. We felt like we made friends with staff, like Sachin, Julius, Wayan, Uno, Jose, Arnold. The band was so good and my only complaint was we wished they would play longer. Sabrina and Mickie were also wonderful with giving information and organizing excursions.
Could have rated this an 4.5
Overall had a great time . Staff was very attentive and friendly. Enjoyed the small boat and the reduced number of passengers vs a large cruise ship. Got to know some very nice folks from other parts of the U.S.
Entertainment was awesome with Nichole ,Shawn and Jeremy.
Food was good.
The lakelorian was fine but too much like history class on various boats. Would have like more stories about ship wrecks and maybe a little shorter presentation.
When introducing the next stop would be good to tell more about the city highlights .
Really enjoyed the Detroit stop but would have liked more time at the Ford Museum and a little less time touring Detroit downtown.
The Toronto tour before boarding was poor. Maybe have a tourn of the CN Tower?
Waffles were like cardboard, coffee was weak, grab and go sandwichs were stale, toaster didn't toast, and the oatmeal was runny. Eating in the grill using the hot stone cooking was great however and wine selections were good.
Overall the cabin was clean and had enough space. The semi-sheer window curtain on the door should be replaced with something light blocking. I had to cover it with a jacket everynight to block the deck lighting.
Communication about excursions was inadequate. The list of excursions we signed up for pre cruise disappeared as soon as I moved to another page in the info site on line and I had to call Victory cruiseline to get the list emailed to me. During the cruise there was no information about getting lunch between excursions with a quick turnaround until we were actually back from the first excursion. Also, we were an hour late getting into Port Colborne which reduced our time at Niagara falls. I know things happen on cruises, but no one every explained anything about why or if we could make up the time. Some of the excursions ended up trying to visit too many places with insufficient time at each.
The on board music group was excellent and the seminars provided by the Road Scholar eductional person were a really nice bonus even though I wasn't part of the Road Scholar group.
The itinerary was good and the weather was (mostly) good so it was a nice trip
My recent Victory Great Lakes cruise had several bright spots, especially the staff, who were consistently kind and helpful. Pre cruise hotel stay at the Sable - Navy Pier was wonderful!
Each port offered something enjoyable, and I particularly loved the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Ford Museum—both were true highlights of the itinerary.
Niagara Falls, while beautiful, ended up being extremely rushed. The ship docked later than planned due to issues setting up the disembarkation ramp, and the shortened schedule made the experience feel hurried.
Cabins are small and in need of upgrading.
Black sediment was pooling in the shower drain.
I also had an uncomfortable experience regarding laundry service. After thinking a pair of jeans might have been overlooked, I asked politely if the laundry team could double-check. The cabin steward initially looked with me in the closet, and I checked the drawers myself. Later, he informed me he had “found” the jeans—after searching through all of my dresser drawers while I was out of the cabin, without asking my permission. I would have eventually located them, and while I appreciate the intention to help, going through my personal belongings without consent felt intrusive.
For the price of this cruise, I expected more. Activities were extremely limited: one bingo session, a few afternoon crafts, port talks, and a single nightly band (which was wonderful, but the only entertainment). The food was generally bland and often cooked in oil, though the breakfast buffet was the most reliable option. All wait staff were friendly and attentive.
A serious safety concern: at the Cleveland port, there is a gradual, unmarked curb right in front of the parking area. I took a hard fall here, injuring my knee and hand. This should be addressed with the port authority immediately to prevent future passenger injuries.
Communication also needs improvement, especially regarding onboard credits, which have very limited use if you already have drinks and laundry included.
The gift shop ( display case) offers very little; adding items featuring the ports of call would be a welcome improvement.
Additionally, the spider and spiderweb buildup on Deck 5—and even Deck 4—was noticeable and should be regularly cleaned.
And finally, having sailed in suite cabins on other cruise lines such as Celebrity and Viking at a similar price point, I can confidently say those experiences offer significantly more in terms of amenities, activities, dining quality, and overall value. Victory’s pricing does not align with what is delivered.
Victory has wonderful staff and the Great Lakes is a great itinerary, but with the prices being charged, the overall experience needs significant improvement. Especially, since Victory advertises it as a luxury cruise.
Chicago, Mackinac Island, Detroit and Cleveland were very cool. The Staff was super friendly and the food was awesome! Architectural boat tour in Chicago, Henry Ford Museum in Detroit and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland are all can't miss. Suggestions:
* Book a premium excursion every port day if you don't want a lot of daytime downtime.
* Go early to the Henry Ford Museum and Uber back so you can spend most of the day there.
* See the USS Cod near the RRHOF
* Don't expect much in Escenaba or Sault St. Marie. Not much to see.
* Bring sea sickness pills just in case. There could be a couple of days of rough water.
all the staff on the Victory II was super from our cabin steward to our exceptional waiter and all the bar servers. Sabrina is excellent also. I will definitely recommend this cruise line to all my family and friends!
just about everything. the people providing service were very friendly and helpful, the food was wonderful, the sights and stops were very nice. the only thing i had issues with were the guides with the mikes on tours. They talked to much about themselves and it got a bit boring. Otherwise I would definitely take another Victory cruise
3 star overall rating would be higher if we hadn't had problems with corporate office at start of experience. We had little to none of the usual contact from Victory after booking. Upon arrival at hotel, neither the cruiseline representative nor hotel were able to access/confirm us as passengers. This negative was counterbalanced by the good things this company is trying to do: make a deluxe experience for passengers on what was essentially a ferry. In this, they succeeded. Kudos to John Waggoner and company.
