Disappointing Experience with BookBaby Quality Control

I printed a batch of my book with BookBaby to gift locally and internationally to key figures in my industry. To my shock, one recipient sent me a video showing that while the cover was correct, the inside contained an entirely different book. I raised the issue multiple times but never received a call or reply. Instead, they sent me just one replacement — in Spanish — even though the original problem was with the English version. This was a highly disappointing experience for such an important promotional project. I expected much better quality control and customer service.

Book Baby's formatting was totally unacceptable.

Book Baby's formatting was totally unacceptable. There were multiple inconsistencies. Sometimes they fully justified the text; sometimes they either left or right justified it. There were multiple cut-offs of words and phrases. They used a double page, double spaced small format then insisted that I didn't understand dynamic flow and the reader could correct all the problems when they read the book.

My project was placed on hold because of a formatting issue. I called and spoke with a very nice agent who encouraged me to take my time to correct the issue. When I was nearly done, I called in again, and got a different agent who was less patient this time, and added to my frustration. Later that day, I called a third time and again, got a wonderful agent. Her name was Jaci and she was a tremendous help. With her assistance, I was able to make the remaining changes and complete the project.

Failed assistance

I enjoyed connecting with this amazing company. However, my experience with the representative that assisted me was not the best experience. Initially, I had the pleasure of communicating with I Mr. Morgan, but as time goes on, that became very uncomfortable with never getting a phone call return or an email responded to and this was disappointing The book, however, it was eventually published, and it was not my satisfaction the original files that was sent to the company. The images inside the book was in color when I receive the book the image was all in black-and-white. The cover of the book was a glass cover and not a matted cover I tried to reach back out many times, but never got a response back.

Want to spend a bunch of money and have your book "Temporarily out of Stock" on every, single, online retailer? Then I highly recommend Book Baby.

My test proof book is above and beyond what I expected. The color, the paper thickness, the hardcover… The print itself. Absolutely beyond expectations. This is my first time and I'm going back for 25 more books as soon as I edit a little more.

BookBaby support kept me informed through the finishing process and the results have been very satisfying. Some editing, formatting, cover design, marketing and publishing were completed and each area was an easy experience.
