Penske Customer Service is the Worst Part

Hi Penske, Thank you for taking the time to respond to this review. I understand your frustration when customers try to hold you to a standard because it’s difficult for you to do so for yourself as a company. That said, when I purchased the red reefer from Columbus Ohio, I made sure the auction report said “Truck Drives” and “No warning lights” on the report. You see as I said before, which was totally overlooked, “as-is” does not mean you sell a truck on auction that is materially different than what the report says and then say the report tore at guarantee anything. Don’t do the report then. Next time I buy a truck, maybe Penske will just swap it with another from their lot and say that the auction report is not guaranteed. At what point do you draw the line? Importantly, maybe next time Penske responds to a complaint they can also look into and acknowledge and rectify the capital-H Horrendous service I received from their team, who never returns calls or email. And even when the rep who helped me got fired, still didn’t reach out. Service from Penske including how they answer their review is the worst part of the experience.

Thank you for taking the time to provide additional feedback. We understand your disappointment and regret that your experience has left you feeling unsupported. While we understand your frustration, our records indicate there were multiple attempts to reach you by phone to discuss your concerns, in addition to ongoing communication via email throughout the process. We regret that these efforts did not result in the resolution you were seeking or leave you feeling that your concerns were adequately addressed. Disappointing Post\-Sale Experience with Penske Truck Purchase

We purchased a truck from the Penske Forest Park, Georgia location. I want to begin by acknowledging that our sales representative was responsive, persistent, and made the purchasing process itself relatively smooth. Unfortunately, our experience after the sale has been extremely disappointing. Within approximately a week and a half of ownership, the truck developed a check engine light related to the DPF system. Since we had purchased the vehicle under Penske’s Level 2 inspection program, we were already planning to have the truck inspected to address the remaining items needed to bring it up to the expected standard. Penske scheduled the truck at one of its service centers, where we were informed that the DPF issue had been repaired. However, we are now experiencing the exact same problem. When we reached out for assistance, we were simply told that we were outside of the 15-day period. Respectfully, this is not a new issue—it is the same issue that Penske represented as having repaired. If the repair had been completed correctly, we would not be facing the identical problem today. We believe that workmanship should be supported, especially when the original repair failed to resolve the issue. Additionally, the cargo box continues to leak despite being told that those leaks had also been repaired. We have sent multiple emails requesting assistance regarding both concerns and have received little to no response. We understand that used equipment may require maintenance, and we did not expect perfection. What has been most disappointing is the lack of accountability and follow-up after the sale. We purchased this truck in good faith, trusting Penske’s inspection process and repair commitments. Instead, we have been left with unresolved issues and limited communication. We hope Penske will reconsider its position, stand behind the repairs that were performed, and demonstrate the level of customer service and integrity that customers expect from a company of its reputation.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for recognizing the efforts of your sales representative during the purchase process. We appreciate your feedback and understand your frustration. Regarding the cargo box leak, we reviewed the communication related to your purchase and post-sale concerns but were unable to locate any notification of a cargo box issue within the required 15-day notification period. As a result, this concern falls outside the notification period outlined in the terms of the sale. We understand this is not the resolution you were hoping for and appreciate you bringing your concerns to our attention. Your feedback is valuable and will be shared with the appropriate teams as we continue to evaluate and improve our customer experience.

Do NOT Purchase Penske Auction

To anyone considering purchasing an auctioned or used truck from Penske: don’t. Our company purchased an Isuzu reefer truck from Penske through auction in May. It is now two months later, and only now is the truck finally ready to be picked up in the condition it should have been in when it was auctioned. I understand that auctioned trucks are sold “as is.” But “as is” does not mean a truck can be materially different from the auction report. For example, if an auction report says a truck is red and you arrive to find it’s blue, Penske can’t simply say, “Auction reports aren’t guaranteed.” (Which is what they tried to do) The same principle applies here. our auction report EXPLICITLY stated: * No warning light on the dash * Truck drives When I arrived, there were three warning lights illuminated, including the check engine light, and the truck was in limp mode.. meaning it did not drive. Both issues inconsistent with the report. This wasn’t some minor cosmetic issue that was omitted from the report. It was a material difference from what was represented. I refused to drive the truck off the lot because I wasn’t about to assume liability for a vehicle that wasn’t as described. I left it there. That trip alone cost me hundred of dollars for: * A flight from New York to Columbus. * A rental car to drive back to NY after discovering I couldn’t take the truck. At the time, the Penske representative helping me, Matt Yost, even promised some form of travel reimbursement. Unfortunately, he was later let go from the company (no surprise), and that promise never materialized. Over the next two months, I spent countless hours calling and emailing just trying to get updates. Communication was consistently poor. It was pulling teeth to get absolutely anyone to respond. Finally, after two months, I received an email from supervisor Matt Miller saying the truck was ready. Given the circumstances, I asked if Penske could help arrange transportation of the truck, considering I’d already spent significant time and money traveling the first time because the vehicle wasn’t as represented. The answer was essentially no. No meaningful attempt to make things right. No acknowledgment of the inconvenience. And to be clear: fixing the turbo isn’t doing us a favor. The turbo issue was the reason the truck was undrivable—the very condition that directly contradicted the auction report stating the truck drives. Now, two months later, I have to now spend hundreds more to fly back out and retrieve it. Our company has purchased more than three dozen trucks from Ryder, and we’ve never experienced anything remotely like this. This was our first experience with Penske, and it will absolutely be our last.

Reply from Penske Used Trucks2026-07-16

Hello Bashir, Thank you for sharing your feedback. I understand how frustrating the delays and extra travel costs have been for you. Because auction units are sold strictly "as is," repairing the turbo at our own expense was our gesture of goodwill to get the truck running and make this right. However, we cannot cover your travel expenses or arrange to transport the vehicle to New York. We want to make sure your pickup goes as smoothly as possible. Please let our Columbus team know your travel plans so we can have the truck and paperwork ready for you the moment you arrive.

Called in last night to confirm a pick…

Called in last night to confirm a pick up on a vehicle being delivered to walla walla WA after speaking with Erik he confined unit I was giving was in another state turned out customer provided wrong unit number Erik went above and beyond in getting vin verified having vehicle in the front and making this process smooth great team in AZ thank you Erik, Matthew and shop

Reply from Penske Used Trucks2026-07-16

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this! It sounds like Erik, Matthew, and the shop team in Arizona really knocked it out of the park. Sorting out a mismatched unit number while a delivery is already in motion can be incredibly stressful, so it’s fantastic to hear that Erik went the extra mile to verify the VIN and get that vehicle pulled right up to the front for you. Smooth handoffs are everything, especially when a wrench gets thrown in the plans. I’ll make sure this praise gets captured so their hard work and great customer service are recognized. Safe travels with the delivery to Walla Walla!

I bought a used truck in December 2025

I bought a used truck in December 2025. In just 3 months, I had an issue with the dpf. My warranty took care of the bulk of the bill and I paid over 2k in deductible. In just 3 months the same problem resurfaced. I strongly believe they sold me a defective equipment. Buyers beware on these used trucks. Truck is currently in the shop and the can’t pay the repair costs.

Reply from Penske Used Trucks2026-07-10

Kwame, thank you for reaching out and for sharing your concerns. I'm sorry to hear that you're continuing to experience issues with your vehicle. I understand how frustrating it is when repairs do not resolve the problem as expected. Based on the information provided, the repairs were completed through your chosen repair facility and processed under your warranty coverage. Because of this, the best course of action is to contact both the repair shop that performed the work and your warranty provider directly. They will be in the best position to review the previous repairs, determine whether any additional work is covered under the warranty, and address any concerns regarding the quality or effectiveness of the repairs. We appreciate your understanding and hope the repair shop and warranty provider are able to resolve this matter for you as quickly as possible.

Bought a used 250 Transit in March 2026…

Bought a used 250 Transit in March 2026 at auction with Pensky auctions. I searched the vin online checked the car-fax all came back clear. Picked it up and drove it home. Later I was driving and the cab filled up with smoke, someone had bypassed a blown 300a mega fuse under the seat with a piece of wire, could have burned the whole van down... Later I found the Van had been wrecked and taken to a hatchet job body shop, I pulled the headliner and saw someone had run it under something so they cut out the roof and glued in a new panel over the remains of the old one, never even primed the new panel so the white paint is peeling and didn't stick, the seam sealer looks like it was applied with a tongue depressor. Pensky has records and knows they paid someone to attempt repairing this vehicle but none of this was noted on the vehicle and there are no records of its history. The buying experience was good but the van is junk and not worth what I paid.

Reply from Penske Used Trucks2026-07-06

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We're very sorry to hear about the issues you've encountered with the van. Vehicles purchased through our auction are sold AS-IS, WHERE-IS, and all auction sales are final. The Vehicle Condition Report reflects the condition of the vehicle and any observable findings documented by NIS at the time of its inspection. It is not a guarantee of the vehicle's condition or a comprehensive history of prior damage or repairs. While we cannot guarantee any adjustment due to the terms of the auction sale, we appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
