I had been a customer since 2018
I had been a loyal PIA customer since 2018, even though the connection was sometimes unstable and unreliable. For the past one or two years, I was frequently unable to access Google while connected to the VPN. I contacted customer support about the issue, but received no useful help, and the problem was never resolved. More recently, I discovered that I had also been overcharged. When I contacted support to discuss the billing issue, I found their response dismissive and disrespectful. After years of declining service quality, unresolved technical problems, and poor customer support, I no longer believe the product is worth the price.

Sure, this is the first VPN I've paid for but this is a great product. It's easy to use, you don't need much tech experience to figure it out, and it doesn't slow down either browsing or streaming to any huge margin. There are many countries to choose, and the expected lag speed is generally shown, many countries have a specific choice or two. PIA is at a price that many people wouldn't even notice (as of summer 2026) as there is a sale on right now. They also sponsor various YouTubers, that offer quite hefty discounts, Cyber waffle is one that springs to mind.

Overcharged, Ignored, and Still Waiting for My Refund
I strongly advise anyone considering Private Internet Access (PIA) to think twice before subscribing. My subscription was supposed to renew at US$51.87 for a 3-year plan, but instead I was charged US$69.95 for only a 2-year plan. Before the renewal, I had already spoken with Sheldon from customer support and followed the instructions I was given specifically to avoid this issue. Despite doing everything I was told, I was still overcharged. I reported the problem almost a month ago, and the only responses I've received have been generic messages saying, "We're looking into it" and "Someone will contact you." Nearly a month later, I still haven't received my refund or any meaningful update. From my experience, once PIA has your money, resolving billing issues becomes an incredibly frustrating process. The lack of communication, accountability, and urgency has been extremely disappointing. It feels like they're simply dragging the process out rather than resolving a straightforward billing error. If customer service and honest billing practices are important to you, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. Based on my experience, I will not be renewing with Private Internet Access again. Instead, I'll be switching to Bitdefender for my VPN service. Their pricing is competitive, their customer portal is easy to use, and my experience with their customer service has been far more responsive and professional. I hope PIA improves its billing practices and customer support, but based on my experience, I cannot recommend them.

When they say "cancel anytime", it's a trick!…
When I purchased it said that I could cancel anytime. After 1 day of trying to use it (and being stuck in a blind loop in their program), I tried to cancel the next morning. They've made cancelling quite difficult. I finally had to email someone. Today is 7/30/26, and they agreed to "cancel" to the extent that it wouldn't auto-renew after September, 2028. The $2.18 monthly price ìs for over 2 YEARS, and they won't let you out of it, even if you cancel 1 day after purchasing. So I'm going to be paying for the next 23 months although I'm cancelling. The total cost to me will be $56.68 (2.18/ month x 26 months = $56.68). I've asked politely to cancel the very next day after I purchased, and the only thing cancellation does is get you out of auto-renewal. And I don't see any way of getting my $56.68 back other than replacing my VISA so I have a new numbet. What a hassle! Avoid Private Internet Access!!!

Took money without my consent
I turned off auto renewal but they still took over £40 from my account. They have a 30 day money back scheme but they refuse to honour this. When I closed the account and asked for my money back I am still waiting 3 weeks later. When I ask the money is always on the way though they told PayPal there would be no refund as I was sent a service. The vpn I now use is much faster.
