Dead out of the box

UPDATE: I was contacted by the customer service Alice after the incident. She was very very helpful and immediately sent me a replacement for the controller unit and x-axis module. It was shipped from China so it took a bit for it to deliver but all went through just over a week. After installing the new x-axis module and the new control unit the machine was working flawlessly. Other than the issue that I had, the build quality is amazing and the machine looks beautiful. They thought of everything. The only small material issue is that the enclosure vinyl plastic becomes charged with static electricity and is a dust magnet. It absorbes all of the saw dust from CNC and is hard to clean as they get stuck to it. But it's nothing major, maybe they can think of a new material in the next versions that does not have this issue. After this experience, I give Snapmaker customer service 5 stars. I change my ranking to 4 overall due to the machine being malfunctional out of the box and have to wait longer to receive replacements. Looking forward to making amazing things with my new Snapmaker Artisan! Original Post from June 8, 2024: I purchased the Snapmaker Artisan 3-in-1 printer/laser/CNC unit with the enclosure a few days ago. They shipped it from a local Los Angeles warehouse the same night and I recieved it 2 days later. So far very quick process! Then I spent one and a half days to assemble the device and the enclosure using the step by step video instruction provided and upon turning the switch on (which was the last step) I realized its not working. I figured the main controller unit arrived dead out of the box. Also when insalling I found that one of the X axis screw holes that takes a shorter screw skips treads and the screw does not tighten. Contacted customer support via email (only way to get a hold of them) and received an automated message that they are not available until June 11th due to "Dragon Festival" which I suppose is a Chinese holiday. Not a single US phone number to contact for support. However, I received a reply on the following night asking me to remove the main unit's LCD display by opening the factory sealed main controller and "checking the voltages connecting to it with a volt-meter" and email back the results to get further support. First of all, I may not be good in electronics and not have a volt meter at home, secondly, I do not feel comfortable breaking the factory seal of a brand new expensive $2500 machine that I purchased, thirdly, if a part is dead out of box, a replacement of at least the modular part should be sent to the customer with a request to send back the broken piece instead of asking the customer to act as a repair guy and open the unit and check voltages. Snapmaker, has a great social media advertisement campaign. Of the bat, for the first experience since recieving the unit I do not see the fraction of that advertisement quality in customer service. I expect a faster response time, at least a US phone support with US local times for support, instead of emailing back an forth with mainland China standard time of operations. I didn't pay $2500 to receive a dead device that needs to be opened and repaired right out of package. And for the lose screw they requested a video which I sent back to them. I am still pending reply from the customer support regarding those two issues and having a dead machine which I spent a whole day and a half assembling sitting in my room. I will update this review if I get more response or get a better customer support. But so far very disappointed with this experience and one star will be too much for it.

Bad customer service, as always

Shipping was delayed by almost two months, something that Snapmaker knew at the point of sale but declined to let me know until a week after I sent them an email. Counter-reviews are bull*hit in general, this one in particular. Would reduce stars if I could, but can't. Typical of Snapmaker.

Hi Anonymous, Thank you for flagging this matter. The Hot End you bought is on pre-order and was scheduled to ship by late May. Your order was set to ship on May 31st and was delivered on June 4th. We regret the shipping delay and any inconvenience it may have caused. We are enhancing our communication procedures to improve transparency on shipping going forward. Purchased Artisan days before Artisan Premium at same price

I purchased the Artisan 3-in-1 printer, cnc, and laser on May 26th for $2599. On June 1, the Artisan Premium came out at a discount for $2599 for a 48 hour sale. I happened to notice this on June 2 and immediately emailed Snapmaker, when I could have just bought the premium and returned the non-Premium. I wanted to save the hassle, time, and money for both myself and Snapmaker would lose by that process and asked them if they would just swap the one upgraded component. They wouldn't acknowledge the price was ever $2599, just repeating that it is $2999. They offered me $100 off a $700 laser unit, when I was trying to being considerate and save everyone time and money. It doesn't pay to be the nice guy. I have screenshots of the sale. I don't know why they keep denying it. I can't embed links or photos here, but reach out if you want them.

Hi Gabe, Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the pricing of the Artisan 3-in-1 3D Printer(Premium). We would like to clarify that the promotional price for the Artisan 3-in-1 3D Printer(Premium) is $2999, rather than $2599. We regret any confusion caused by the price variance between the standard and Premium versions. Upon your inquiry, we did extend the option for either product exchange with price difference payment or acquisition of the 40W laser module at a reduced price to enhance your current setup. We appreciate your understanding and consideration in this matter. If you have any further questions or require assistance, please feel free to contact us. Warm Regards, Snapmaker

Wow!!! F350 @ $549.00

Major update!!! I got so sick of snappycrappy a250 I bought a Bambu Labs A1 combo! damn is it good! I've been wasting my money and time.... I feel shortchanged when I see a Snapmaker F350 on sale $549.00 when I’ve just spent $400+ trying to get my A250 (w/the noisy drivers) to work.I had placed the tmc2209 linear modules in my cart and was going to spend an additional $329.00 which would have brought my additional expenses to $700.00 which really feels like a kick in the balls. Btw Luban is… crap. Snapmaker make it right! Thank you Trustpilot for creating this venue, Snappy doesn't allow people to openly express their frustrations on the Snapfaker webpage.

A poor kickstarter …

They want you to write good reviews before they issue refunds for items they aren’t sending. Did a pre order and now everything I try to cancel when it’s now a month later. They need feedback and reviews to help them. They are running pre order like kickstarter. Every time I tried to cancel it was shipping that week. Month later it’s suppose to ship in 2 weeks!

Hardware top, Software not

In my opinion, the hardware and workmanship are top notch. Unfortunately, the firmware and the Luban software are often buggy or not really practicable

Awfull support experience

Awfull support experience I Purchased an Artisan 3 in 1 printer in September 2023. Delivery as quick and without damage. I have not had time to put together before last month (April) Everything went well; assembly, testing 3Dprint, CNC Tests. Now the hard Part: Enclosure is a big project... Assembly went reasonnably well. It is a big project... Once this was done, I was eager to test & use the laser tool for I had a specific job to perform that needed such a tool. Unfortunately at the very start I encountered an error message: "Enclosure not Detected" error 14-13... This situation means that the laser cannot be used at all. No work-around laser will not work without the protection from the enclosure. Got to contact support. Have received some of suspected parts (how they determined what was necessary fix I don't know. However, I can tell it didn't fix the problem. Back to square one. Could not report the problem any further. Communication breakdown with support: the eMails I received wanted to be replyed: "Please reply above this line" is inoperant... So the alternate solution is to reply at the bottom thus the reply goes Unbeknownst, if not blindly rejected. To the point of further receiving an automessage stating: since no followup, the case is now closed. GOOD BY! Next support ticket requested seems to have fallen into a crack: not a reply from support. In desperation, called and left message twice to whom have sold me: Tom's Hardware From New York. They don't return calls. Pretty pityfull. The product is of High quality but support sucks. I am still hoping to be rescued. Otherwise I will have to do without the laser which if I had known would have done without in the first place at a lesser price. Lessons learned: it's not the price you pay for an item but the people that supports it that make it a pleasant experience... Y. Lahaise Follow-up As of May 22nd 2024 WOW ! Thanks to Trustpilot, communications with Snapmaker as resumed. I was sent another PCB (other than the preious one, as there are two Enclosure PCB'S ). Hurried to install and: Tada ! Drum Roll... This really saved the day. Enclosure now detected and laser, enclosure lighting up and running as expected. If would suggest Snapmaker to survey and review their "Zendesk" software as an improvement to communications with customers. As a conclusion: I now upgrade a strong four star rating and will certainly keep an eye open for future new products of their brand. Don't be shy of purchasing this product. It's an amazing machine. Special thanks to Trustpilot: your implication has yielded the best results in restoring my confidence towards Snapmaker products. I and they owe you one. Regards, Yves Lahaise

2.5 stars worth, but saved by the service team!

Overall experience: acceptable - the forth star was gained by the service team giving fast and precise response on questions. Otherwise: max 3 stars! Improvement is necessary on clear and direct statement of delivery dates on each single item - not just written "somewhere" in the description. Furthermore, delivery dates need to be clearly communicated within the shopping cart! Next, delivering a "you get emailed when ready" is definitively not sufficient! Customers are sending money around the world and want to know when they get value for it! Unfortunateyl, SnapMaker is not the only shop showing this type of behavior... EcoFlow = same situation; BambuLab = same situation... As stated to the service team (which did a really good job) I will never order anything again at SnapMaker since I do not know by when I will get the products ordered... So, basically, the shop & website are max. 2.5 stars worth. Here, the service team giving fast and clear response makes the deal!

ultra-osom-fast-reliable-easy-print-utopia

the artisan is a 3dprint blessing. -I have been testing for now up to 250mm/s with excellent quality. -i like the integration in luban, especially the separation of settings for application and settings for materials make a lot of sense, and settings are intuitive with a lot of helpfull descriptions. -accuracy of the printer is spot on. -feeding/calibration is intuitive and very good. -dual extrusion calibration is easy peacy -plenty more i am still learning as i am not a 3dprint-god... some of the (tiny) criticisms: -the startup procedure is ok, but could be improved by adding a restart or cancel button, personally i would not start this, but have a homescreen button somewhere to start this. -not sure why turning the printer off, is only possible with the powerbutton, and not on screen. -cable management is less than optimal: advise: reuse the straps to bind the cables together, and add tie-wraps to keep it tidy. and print something to easily detach it (but keeping cable management intact) from the external housing. the supplied clips aint doing enough. -luban does not always set the printer nozzles diameter when connecting to it, i was printing with 0.4 settings while i installed 0.6 nozzles (not sure how that is possible). -i would connect left+right filament holders with 1 bar to be able to hold 4 filament rolls. seems like a lot of negatives, but these are only slight/tiny things. overall impression of the printer is summarized in 1 word: ultra-osom-fast-reliable-easy-print-utopia.

Hi Ytsma Ron, Thank you for your detailed review of the Artisan 3D printer! I appreciate your positive feedback on its speed, quality, integration in Luban, accuracy, and user-friendly features like feeding/calibration and dual extrusion calibration. It's great to hear that you find the printer to be a blessing. I understand your suggestions for improvement, such as adding a restart or cancel button to the startup procedure, enabling the option to turn off the printer on screen, enhancing cable management, and ensuring Luban accurately sets the printer nozzle diameter. Your idea of connecting the left and right filament holders with one bar is also noted. Your feedback is valuable as it helps us continue to improve and provide the best possible experience for users like you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for being part of our 3D printing community! Warm Regards, Snapmaker

I own a Snapmaker 2.0 A350T for now a…

I own a Snapmaker 2.0 A350T for now a year and it's a beautiful machine I must, easy to use and the main reason I brought it is I don't have to much space to own a sperate machine for each main function.Never had many problems but I did have to buy replacement part (Limit Switch) for my liner moudle to replace it. One thing I would like for snapmaker to improve on is lowering the delivery cost as its badly priced for example when the only thing you need to buy is a replacement part but the delivery cost is way more than the item buying.

Original owners shortchanged?

I find it a little ironic that Snapmaker emailed me for a review. I am a Snapmaker Original owner/user. I now find it impossible to find spares and/or replacement parts (at least through official channels) Luckily I have so far found my machine has been reasonably reliable. I would have hoped that Snapmaker would have had the integrity to maintain the spares and accessories for their original customer base. I will be unlikely to upgrade, even if I can afford it, because if built in obsolescence is going to be Snapmaker standard practice it may be time to look elsewhere.

I own 5 Snapmaker 2.0 A250s

I own 5 Snapmaker 2.0 A250s. CNC,LASER,3D PRINTER are used daily as dedicated machines. It is such a stable machine that we own 5 of them because we create and sell products. However, for software, we use software from other companies and do not use genuine software. Snapmaker 2.0 A250 is a very good machine, but it is highly specialized in some areas. I can recommend this machine to anyone who can spend time creating something new!

Solid hardware, software not so much

Hardware is built solid and for its quality you would think it would perform better. I believe the software need work. As for the install and assembly instruction, they are top-notch so is the packing. Support for purchase and shortly after is very good. When it comes to guidance for how to get the maximum out of your machine and how to calibrate it for best results, that is where it seriously lacks. I think this is where they can make a big improvements that would significantly change hearts.

Customer service is great! When I made a mistake in my order I was contacted to make sure that I got what I wanted and help to correct the order and to minimize the delay in delivery. Minus point is the lack of information of the order processing status or delivery information.

Good product with solid construction…

Good product with solid construction and nice set of instructions. A bit to much black on black makes things hard to see tho. Any issues are dealt with VERY slowly. Unable to use for over 2 months waiting on repair kit. Luban software is barely tolerable. A bit on the costly side for the service we get. Then trying to sell new stuff ALL the time including an extended warranty that should have been built in to start with a $3000 set up. **Got a very polite reply to this the next day. Wish the request for help replies could be as fast.

I purchased my J1 on Kickstarter

I purchased my J1 on Kickstarter and waited over a year for delivery. I don't say that as a bad thing, just that it raised my anticipation considerably. I have not been disappointed. I have been very happy with the J1, now a J1S with the upgrade of the fan. It has been a solid performer for me in the year and a half that I have had it. I had a couple of minor things in that time but nothing that I wasn't able to resolve on my own pretty quickly. All firmware updates have gone smoothly for me. I haven't really put the printer through the wringer so to speak but it continues to perform well for me. I made a couple of minor changes to the enclosure that have enhanced the printer for me. One was from the forum, I mmad a small hole in the side panel so that I could adjust the belt without removing the panel. The other is just a preference thing on my part, I replaced the metal top cover with a clear acrylic sheet I had cut to fit and attached magnets to so that I could view from the top. If I had to find a fault with the printer, ti wouldn't be with the printer but with the assembly hardware, I stripped a couple of the hex head screws pretty easily on the enclosure, so I replaced them with stainless steel screws with a deeper hole for the allen wrench that doesn't strip as easily. Downside its that it does protrude more so asthetically it's not as clean looking but I don't mind that. There is a knowledgeable community support forum with some very savvy people that I have also benefitted from.

Reply from Snapmaker2024-04-19

Hi Harlan, Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with the J1 printer. We appreciate your patience during the Kickstarter delivery process and are glad to hear that the anticipation was worth it. It's great to know that you have been satisfied with the J1S model and its performance over the past year and a half, especially with the fan upgrade. We are pleased that you found solutions to minor issues and that firmware updates went smoothly for you. Your modifications to the enclosure sound innovative and it's fantastic to hear how they have enhanced your printing experience. We appreciate your feedback on the assembly hardware and will consider it for future improvements. It's wonderful to hear that you have benefited from the supportive community forum and the knowledgeable individuals there. Thank you for being a valued part of our community and for sharing your positive experience with the J1 printer. If you have any further feedback or suggestions, please feel free to reach out. The 350 is a great machine, BUT

The 350 is a great machine. I use it primarily for laser projects. The 3D printer works great. I have not used the CNC side yet. But, as noted below, there are a lot of issues that need to be dealt with regarding the laser side. Basically Lubar simply is feature poor, with some serious bugs. Compared to other lasers (including the Ray maybe) that use Lightburn, using Lubar is like riding a snail out to dinner. Come on Snapmaker, please focus some time on fixing your software OR provide an interface to Lightburn. Bugs to fix: 'Constant power mode' checkbox is 're-checked' automatically whenever a snaplzr project is reloaded on all of the images in the project. Until I realized that, I was ruining projects and wasting wood. Now it requires the headache of going though all the images and unchecking the box. When a project is saved, it should stay as last used. The field for setting power (0-100) needs to be more secure. If I put a % into the field, and try and scroll down the process setup with the mouse wheel, the % entered starts changing to numbers with the wheel movement. That is bad. Take out the number control using the wheel and rely on only an entered number. 'Show/not show’ is lost when saving project. When turning off an image, it should stay off even if saved and reloaded. Saves to wrong file name. Randomly I will save a project as another name, only to discover that my changes are modifying the original file. When editing the names in an entry box, you should be able to highlight the contents and type over it. Presently some of the entry fields require backspacing to remove the info, and others work as they should (highlight and edit or retype) Crash of head on rotary when parking the head (40w unit). I had the rotary unit in and used the PARK feature to move the 40w head down to take off and clean, only to have it crash into the rotary. I busted the plastic shield, but the emergency stop button saved it from a lot more damage. Your code needs to detect the rotary unit installation and prevent parking or avoid coming down too far to crash. Modifications needed: Lubar needs square/round Cropping features. Too often I bring in images that interfere with neighboring images. A circle crop would take care of that. Lubar needs an eraser in the edit images part. Lubar needs more font control. That should include being able to allow words and phrases to curve. In changing the laser engrave order in Lubar, it should have the ability for the mouse to simply highlight a line and move it up or down. Using the little up down box is simply old school. In setting new Process Parameters, Lubar simply should allow the user to either copy or create a new parameter to add to the list, instead trying to take the one created and assume it will be used on the object. Lubar needs to accept layers like Lightburn. AND it is time to create an interface to Lightburn like the Ray has. The bottomline is that Lightburn is a lot more robust than Lubar and would be a great upgrade for the laser feature of Snapmaker (using the USB connection) Also, the 40W head needs a quick release air hose adapter to help in removing it for cleaning. I have the big fan on my 350/40w unit, and it is REALLY loud. A speed control would be create to adjust down a bit. I am likely to reinstall the original unit or try some rubber spacers to see if the enclosure box is amplifying the sound. Great fan, but sounds like a jet taking off

Hi Steve, Thank you for your detailed feedback on the Snapmaker 350. We appreciate your insights on the machine's performance, particularly in laser projects. It's unfortunate to hear about the issues you've encountered with the software, especially regarding Luban's functionality and bugs. Your suggestions for improvement, such as addressing the automatic re-checking of the 'Constant power mode' checkbox and enhancing the power setting field's usability, are valuable. We understand your frustration with the software's shortcomings and the need for features like square/round cropping, an eraser tool, and improved font control. Your input on enhancing the user experience, including easier editing of project names and more intuitive laser engrave order adjustments, is duly noted. Regarding the hardware, your feedback on the loudness of the fan on the A350+40W Laser Module is noted. While the power of the Exhaust Fan cannot be adjusted through the touchscreen, it can be modified by sending G-code commands in Luban - Workspace - Console. For Snapmaker 2.0 equipped with the Boosted Exhaust Fan: M1010 S4 P100 Note: If you are sensitive to sound, reducing the speed to below 70% is recommended. That is to say, adjust P100 to P70. We will consider your feedback as we continue to improve the Snapmaker A350 and Luban software. Thank you for sharing your experience and suggestions for enhancement. Warm Regards, Snapmaker
