The Welcome staff and the girls at the office are always nice and helpful. If there is one thing to say is about the self assign: the slots opened few days before the day announced so I had some issues in finding tours on October and December because they were already taken 😊

Hi Eleonora,
Thank you so much for your kind words about our office and welcome staff being helpful!
We are very sorry to hear about the issue with the self-assignment slots opening earlier than announced. We understand how frustrating it is to miss out on your preferred October and December slots because of this unexpected timing, and we certainly want to make sure the process is smooth and fair for you.
Please reach out to the Guide Coordinators directly for this.
We truly appreciate your dedication and look forward to working closely with you on future tours.
The tour guide was informative. There was little to no wasted time. Since we were in Rome on July 1, she made judicious use of shade. Her best advice was about how to select a good gelato store. The time flew by and was worth every penny. If you are in doubt, you should book the tour. The folks at Tour Guy are responsive and well organized.

Meeting logistics were easy
Our guide (can't remember his name) was knowledgeable and fun.
Headsets were helpful
Tour covered everything promised

So much to cover in the alloted time made it hard to really spend time with the things I was particularly interested in and go past things less interesting. There will be compromises even in a small group tour. This is not a criticism, it's just the reality of a non- private tour
This did really whet my appetite for a private tour next trip... maybe even the after hours option. The place is so amazing that I can justify the cost.

I did a few tours, 1 in Florence and two in Rome. The Florence guide wasn’t the best, could have been a way better experience for the money paid. Also we had to wait for another group which burned about 15 to 20 minutes of unnecessary waiting and cut the tour short. Tour guide was slow and hard to understand. 2.5 star on the guide, 4 star on the actual sight seeing. They seemed confused at times. Pretty boring as a guide. But we enjoyed the sights, even though time was delayed. The tour guide for the coliseum tour was awesome and the tour was 5 star. She was great, very informative and personable. The other tour of the Vatican was ok, the tour was subbed out to another tour company, not the tour guy. So disappointing considering the price tag and they also moved our time slot to later in the day. The guide was ok, but could have been better. Kind of dry and at times hard to understand. I would say that was 3.5 star.

Hi JS, thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback about your recent travels with us. We are absolutely thrilled to hear your Colosseum tour was a five star experience and that your guide was so personable! However, we are sorry to hear that your Florence and Vatican experiences did not fully hit the mark. Regarding the delay in Florence, we have already shared this with our Florence Operations Manager to ensure our departures remain strictly on time. For the Vatican, we sometimes coordinate with vetted local partners to guarantee access to high demand slots, but they are always expected to maintain our high standards. We would love the chance to look into this further, so please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can get this resolved. We hope to have the opportunity to show you a seamless, top tier experience across all of our cities in the future.
If I could give them zero stars, I would. Why? BECAUSE I DIDN'T GET TO TAKE MY TOUR. They canceled it the DAY BEFORE, giving me no time to find another option. I flew all the way to Rome partly to see the Colloseum and they canceled on me. They outsourced the tour to a "Partner company" who apparently sold me tickets before they actually bought them from the Colloseum. I've heard this happens, where they "bet" they can get the tickets, they collect your money well ahead of time, and then they cancel because there aren't enough tickets available. And then they tried to blame the Colloseum, saying something like, "Due to new, strict policies, we are unable to offer the tour." They refunded it, but what good did that do me? Go with Walks of Italy instead. They are more reputable.

Hi Nancy, we are truly sorry to hear about this cancellation, and we completely understand your frustration. Flying all the way to Rome to see the Colosseum and having the tour canceled the day before is incredibly disappointing, and we know that a refund does not make up for the lost opportunity.
To provide some honest context, this was not a case of selling tickets before we bought them. Our local partner, Let See Italy, had successfully secured and purchased the official Colosseum tickets for your booking well in advance. However, the Colosseum administration recently implemented aggressive and sudden new ticketing policies that resulted in our pre-purchased tickets being unexpectedly invalidated. While we tried our best to find a workaround or alternative date, the strict monument restrictions left us with no choice but to cancel and refund the booking.
We completely stand by our brand and our partners, who work tirelessly under these unpredictable regulations, but we deeply regret that this disrupted your dream trip. Please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can connect further and get this resolved to your satisfaction.
This is the best tour company. The tours are professional organized, the guides are knowledgeable and fun.

Museum and Crypt of the Capuchin Friars and the Catacombe Di San Castillo
We very much enjoyed the tour which included the Museum and Crypt of the Capuchin Friars and the Catacombe Di San Castillo.
The Museum was very informative and the Crypt a little creepy. It must take a special character of humans to build wall decorations made of human bones…
From the Crypt we were taken by vans to the Catacombe. It was very impressive to see how these resting places for the dead were build several layers into the underground. The temperature in the Catacombe was also a nice refreshment from the summer heat.
While we drove to and from the Catacombe our tour guide gave us more historical details of Rome via radio headsets when passing different historical buildings.
Overall great tour. I would book with this company again.

Last‑Minute Downgrade & Misleading Tour Change — Be Careful Booking with The Tour Guy
I booked a fully guided Colosseum tour with The Tour Guy months in advance, including a guided experience inside the Colosseum. Two days before the tour, they notified me that the entire guided portion inside the Colosseum was removed.
They changed the tour format, downgraded the experience, and shifted the start time — all at the last minute. Their “solution” was to give a short introduction outside the Colosseum, hand over the tickets, and send us in alone. This is not what was advertised, not what was purchased, and not what was promised.
A 30% was offered via Text message and never honored either, a refund does not reflect the value lost. The guided Colosseum portion is the core of the tour. Removing it fundamentally changes the product.
There response never took responsibility only to blame operators, so they just take your money and don't take responsibility for the experience.
I’m sharing this so other travelers understand that last‑minute downgrades like this do happen, and The Tour Guy did not provide a fair or proactive resolution. If you’re booking a premium guided experience, especially for the Colosseum, be aware that what you receive may not match what you paid for.

Hi Christopher, we are truly sorry to hear about this experience. We know how much planning goes into a trip to Rome, and having your tour format modified at the last minute is definitely not the standard we strive for.
To provide some context, Colosseum ticket acquisition has become incredibly difficult due to recent regulatory crackdowns and strict ticket restrictions. When our former partner, Show Me Italy, faced issues securing the guided interior access, we made the decision to pivot rather than cancel your tour entirely. We believe that securing your hard-to-get entry tickets and providing an expert outdoor introduction is far better than a full cancellation, which would have left you unable to enter the monument at all. However, we hold our partners to the highest standards, and because of their service failures, we have officially stopped working with them.
We want to make sure we make things right. While the partial refund has already been processed and returned to your account, we have also just issued an additional $60 credit directly to your account today as an extra apology for the inconvenience. Please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can confirm you received this and get this resolved to your satisfaction.

Our guide Greg was fantastic, deeply knowledgeable and humorous. He made the experience of viewing the Acropolis remarkable (outstanding with 22K people visiting each day). His pacing, stories and vignettes were entertaining. He honored everyone's questions at their level and was committed to making it the best experience possible in that remarkable place

All the tours were very organized, staff was friendly, meeting points easy to find with the instructions. We used Tour Guy for 7 of our 10 excursions across Italy and had great itineraries. The only thing I would want to see is a more detailed itinerary by time or the order of the sites made more clear on the voucher, so that when you’re taking a look at it the day before you know how to dress and what to expect.. For example, Pompeii and Amalfi coast, which occurs first and is there a swimming opportunity?
Reply from The Tour Guy2026-07-14
Hi Alice, thank you for booking 7 excursions with us! We are thrilled you had great itineraries. Your feedback about adding more detailed timing on the vouchers is excellent, and we will share this with our Italy Operations team to improve. Please tell your friends and family about The Tour Guy, and we would love to welcome you back for more adventures in the future!
