What reviewers say

AI generated

Reviewers had a great experience with this company. People frequently share that the food is extremely tasty, offering proper portion sizes and a wonderful variety that makes everyday dining much easier for families. Consumers also love the great flexibility of ordering meals without any mandatory subscription commitments while consistently receiving supportive customer care. However, some people mentioned issues with delayed shipments, noting that packages occasionally arrived completely thawed because the dry ice had melted entirely during transit. Additionally, customers expressed deep disappointment regarding the recent removal of meal customization features, and a few reported receiving damaged containers with broken plastic pieces.

Good process, food doesn't live up to its potential

The process of ordering and receiving meals is excellent. The two meals I've eaten so far have been rather mediocre. Pork tenderloin with apples had the pork swimming in water. Heating was complicated as I had to remove the veggies to heat separately. The sweet potato was very good though. The second meal, pasta with sausage and peppers tasted good, but the sauce was almost nonexistent, so it felt dry and gummy. Sausage was a few crumbles, and the heating instructions did not get the food hot in the recommended time.

I selected items to buy

I selected items to buy, but did not initially make the purchase. I received an email stating that the items I selected were saved in my cart, but that was untrue. This happened twice, and each time I reported the errors but received an automated reply from a mailbox that doesn't get read. When I finally did place the order, I received confirmation of the order, but never received the promised ship date. Things are getting sloppy.

Reasonably good food but packaging problems.

Reasonably good food, but there are some packaging problems. Often the plastic tray that holds the food arrives broken with small shards of plastic in the food. If you're not careful, you can end up eating some of these shards of plastic and they can be sharp. I've found this happens in at least one dinner in each of my orders. Why are you using plastic anyway?

Changed, and not for the better

I can't customize the meals like I used to, and you eliminated the Gluten-Free Special Diet Menu. Why? Your packaging still says "Customize." At least you still have a Low Sodium menu. However, it doesn't show all the meals I find by going to the Main Menu and checking off Low Sodium and Gluten-Free there. What's with the inconsistency? This is not the same Top Chef Meals I discovered a while ago.

Review of my 4 pack order of Top Chef meals…

The foods arrived frozen which I did not think would be a problem. However, when I would heat the meals up in the microwave the sweet potatoes were watery and the vegetables depending they were would be watery too. The meat was of good quality. The meal overall was a little too bland. Comparing you meals to Factor meals, I would have to go with Factor. Maybe I did not follow the cooking instructions. I did let them thaw out in the fridge and put them in the fridge as soon as they arrived. I may consider give Top Chef another try.

Disappointing Changes. Beware Reordering.

While the quality of the food items themselves have remained good, there are a number of worrying trends with the site and company. Firstly, is the unannounced changes regarding removing customizing of meals. This includes the 'Extra Protein' options that were once available for most dishes. Secondly, I placed an order before knowing this change of policy, by reordering my past meals I've been getting for a long time (I've been a customer since 2021). They charged me for the full price of my re-order, customized and with extra protein, my receipts all read what I had ordered, my invoice IN the delivered package read what I had ordered, but every order was incorrect. Or rather, defaulted to "this is what the meal now comes with, and no extra protein." This was an unwelcome surprise, and there is still, as of my writing this, no notification anywhere that this change has taken place. I had to call and inquire as to why my order was 9 out of 10 items incorrect (one item, Chicken Pot Pie, never had anything to customize). I was then told that as of the new year, there will now be no customizing meals, no extra protein, or, apparently, re-ordering. Although even as I placed my revised order for this week, I could have had the same experience, and there was no safeguard to prevent it. My call did result in being offered a 50% discount on my next order (although I was unable to find a way to redeem it, for which I will have to make another call). To their credit, I always find whoever I speak to on the phone to be polite, pleasant, and professional, and have my issues addressed. This change in policy with no notification, and one of the key things that made Top Chef Meals stand out in the beginning is incredibly disappointing, however. There are multiple social media platforms abandoned, all which could be updated to notify customers of changes.

The meals are no longer customizable

The meals used to be customizable for which vegetable and starch you wanted with the entree, but now it's like every other meal delivery service, nothing is customizable. As someone who is looking for lower carb meals, very few now will work for me which I'm quite bummed about. I really loved this company for the ability to customize. Plus on the website you can't look at the nutritional information for the 'everyday' meals, you can only see it for the 'signature' meals. The entrees are still very tasty though, as are the roasted broccoli and brussel sprouts, and the vegetable cous cous, on those entrees they come with.
