Very easy to book. Only comment is the hosts do not like negative comments
Just checking in to make the reservation was easy and quick.
HipCamp fees are excessive in my opinion, about 20%. This alone isn't my only issue with the fees. If you decide to cancel well outside the period to receive a full refund, HipCamp still keeps the "as they call it small fee", as if 20% is reasonable. Also as mentioned in a few other posts, you can pinpoint the location of the camp site that you are booking until after you make the reservations. In my recent case, the reservation I made was somewhere else then where I thought I was reserving. I ended up in someone's backyard for $80.00 per night...that was the site. When I canceled, 1 month out, HipCamp kept the $60.00 "small fee". I would not recommend using this service.
The lacking of contact information (Hipcamp acting as gatekeeper), makes it more challenging to make a free and informed choice. There is a way, a link, that supposedly should take you to the renter, but it just took me down a rabbit hole, not very useful. Obtaining the contact information after a booking is anti-climatic. Ferreting out answers to would-be renters by talking directly beforehand is what is needed to determine final outcome of whether or not a would-be renter wants to make a booking.
Hi, Thanks for sharing this feedback with us and with the broader Hipcamp community! For privacy reasons, we don't share personal contact details between Hosts and Hipcampers until a confirmed booking is in place. Prior to booking, you can follow these instructions to contact a Host: https://support.hipcamp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360024822712-How-do-I-contact-a-Host Once a confirmed booking is in place, you can find your Host's contact phone number in your booking confirmation, which can be accessed via the Trips section of your account. Instructions for finding your booking confirmation are here: https://support.hipcamp.com/hc/en-us/articles/13181581584020-How-do-I-know-if-my-booking-is-confirmed
The campground booked was not as described. I paid for reservation through hipcamp but the campground did not get paid until I received two email from the campground reporting my payment was overdue and I messaged hipcamp about the issue. I should clarify hipcamp did not pay campground until I messaged, two months after I checked out- so their reply doesn’t explain the delay. I also paid over $20 more through hipcamp site than if I had booked directly- that’s quite an up charge. I gave two stars because they did respond quickly after I messaged but I will not use site again.
Hi Sandy, Thanks for sharing this experience with us and with the broader Hipcamp community! On Hipcamp, Hosts are paid on the Tuesday after the Hipcamper checks out - if they have set up their payout details within their account. If a campground has not entered their payout details, they will not have receive a payout until they provide us with those details; because we simply cannot pay a Host until they tell us how and where to pay them! Once a Host has set up their correct payout details, they are paid automatically on the Tuesday after a camper checks out. Campers pay in full at the time they make their booking, so guests should never receive a message from a Host telling them their payment is overdue. If a Host or Hipcamper has any questions regarding payments, they are encouraged to contact our Support team via https://hipca.mp/support for further assistance!|
App is very easy to use! Also, the convenience of finding these private campsites and reserving a spot in just a few clicks is just really awesome.
There site is easy to use, and was not lacking for information. Has a lot to offer for those of us looking for that special place. Keep up the great work !
Very easy to use. A map would be helpful
easy to use. quick. no issues
First time using Hipcamp scored a fab quick camp- get -away at short notice! Thanks very much Hipcamp!
Great views and friendly staff
The stay was lovely and the host was great. Very easy to book and contact the host. Would use again.
Hi Daniel, Thanks for sharing your experience with us and with the broader Hipcamp community. As per our email to you on October 2nd, your refund was not automatically issued as it should have been, and a bug report has been filed with our engineers. Our team have requested your PayPal email address so that we can issue a refund manually. We apologise for the inconvenience, and will issue your refund manually ASAP!
All four of my Hipcamp trips have been excellent and offered options that I would have never known about otherwise. It works wonderfully for planning last minute trips near destinations where most options are sold out. Love it!
If you have any problems on Hipcamps side with app or website you’re screwed. They get back to you in 48-72 hours-which is frustrating when I’m trying to plan a trip and I need to get a hold of the host and I’m not able to-since nothing is showing up for my trips in my inbox. The bot is a joke. Frustrating to say the least. I’ll never use it again. This happened well before Hurricane Helene.
Hi Kara, Thanks for taking the time to share this experience with us and with the broader Hipcamp team. We are currently experiencing extended wait times for Support, due to an unprecedented number of Support requests due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene. I have searched our Support queue for the name "Kara Beckman," but it's not returning any results. Please reply to your Support request and ask that it be escalated to Ellyn for review, and we will be in touch ASAP!
I would think twice if you plan on camping at Sherwood Creek campsite. I simply asked the host some questions about the cancellation policy so I could decided whether to change my trip because of something that came up. She ignored my emails until the deadline passed so I couldn’t even get a refund. It’s a scam. And I notified Hipcamp directly, sending them my email communication with the host Amy, and they did absolutely nothing to help me. In fact you’ll see in their “policies” that the host is supposed to have their cancellation policy directly on the booking receipt, and this host did not. That is why I entailed to find out. Amy the host completely ignored me. She didn’t have a problem taking my $143 for a 2-night camping trip.
Hi Mary, Thanks for sharing your experience with us and with the broader Hipcamp community! The cancellation policy for a given site can be found in the following locations: - On the site listing page - At each step of the checkout process - On your trip confirmation page, which can be accessed via the Trips section of your account We do not put cancellation policies directly on booking receipts, as this information is already located on the confirmation page. I hope this helps! If you have further questions, please feel free to respond to your Support ticket regarding this booking.
Hate it!! My vacation has not even started yet. Leave for Hi in two weeks and one of the three places we are staying at just cancelled on us. Tried to extend one of the other places but cannot because the card I used expired. There is no place to edit payment method so I contacted their "24/7" customer service and chatted with autobot and received a message saying they would email me within 24-48 hours. I will never use this service again!!!
Hi Jay, Thanks for taking the time to share this feedback with us and with the broader Hipcamp community! We have searched our system but haven't been able to locate any Support requests under the name "Jay Bee." Could you please reply to your Support ticket with the word "urgent" so that we can locate your Support request in our system and provide further assistance?
Hipcamp is pretty scammy, actually. I had a negative experience at one of the properties - Sunset Hollow in Ontario. I wrote a negative review, and the host actually has the ability to simply take reviews they don't like down from the site. I wrote to the company about this, and they never responded. It's not hard to maintain a 100% star rating if you can just remove any reviews or pictures that aren't 5 stars! We felt so uncomfortable at the property, we just left after a couple of hours and drove home.
Hi Chris, Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us and with the broader Hipcamp community! As explained to you in your Support ticket with Jess, reviews on Hipcamp work on a double blind system. This means that once a review is submitted by a camper, it will not be shared with the Host or appear publicly on the listing until either a) the Host leaves their own review of you as a camper (at which point both your review and the Host's review will post simultaneously), or b) 14 days has passed since your checkout date, at which point the review window closes, your review posts publicl, and the Host can no longer leave a review of you as a camper. We have strict guidelines for what qualifies a review for removal. You can learn more here: https://support.hipcamp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360024822152-What-s-Hipcamp-s-policy-on-removing-reviews-of-your-site As the Host for your booking has not yet elected to leave a review of you as a camper, this means your review has not been shown to them or posted publicly yet. However, as you have elected to delete your Hipcamp account - which includes deleting all of your user-generated content - it means your review will now no longer post at all. I hope this helps!
Absolutely love Hipcamp! The camping options are truly endless. The host are always kind, I enjoy meeting them. The app is easy to navigate and well laid out. You will never find me at a campground thanks to Hipcamp.
The platform is great to navigate, they keep you informed and there are many ways to access important info like maps and host contacts, the fees are reasonable, the inform you immediately if something in your itinerary changes, and as a company they bring together a great group of people for an awesome service
