What reviewers say

Most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Consumers frequently find the staff to be exceptionally professional, polite, and truly helpful throughout the entire moving process. People genuinely appreciate how incredibly careful the workers are with their precious belongings, ensuring everything is handled properly and safely. Many customers note that the entire relocation procedure feels remarkably stress-free, efficient, and smooth from start to finish.
However, some customers also noted severe issues with unexpected price increases and missing items after the final delivery. A few people experienced frustratingly long delivery delays, poor communication from staff, and valuable property arriving heavily damaged or completely broken.

This moving company saves time, reduces stress, and helps ensure your belongings are handled safely and efficiently. Their experience, equipment, and organization make the entire process convenient compared to trying to manage everything on your own.

Pre-dispatch price hikes, significant damage on delivery, and a retroactive insurance demand
We contracted International Van Lines for a door-to-door international household move from Texas to the UK. The initial contract was based on a remote video (virtual) survey of the house.
The contract price rose twice before dispatch: from the January 2024 estimate of $18,281 to $23,975 at booking on 1 August 2024 (a 31% increase), and then to $33,968 only three weeks later (a further 42%), when — with packing already in progress at the house — IVL demanded an unbudgeted second 20-ft container that the virtual survey had not specified.
Delivery in the UK in April 2026 became an ordeal for us. Despite our specifically warning IVL about the value and fragility of some items, in particular our artworks, packing of those pieces was inconsistent: some were properly wrapped and boxed; others were placed in boxes of clothes alongside heavy items and were broken on arrival. A considerable number of furniture items were not wrapped at all before containerisation. Furniture pieces dismantled by IVL in Texas arrived spread across multiple boxes, sometimes with labels, sometimes without, with small parts such as knobs and screws currently unaccounted for. IVL’s UK agent then refused to reassemble those items, on the basis that the work was outside their instructed scope.
A structural point that future customers should understand: IVL is not, on an international job like ours, the company that performs every part of the move. The UK destination services in our case were carried out by a separate, sub-contracted company, not by IVL itself. When damage and missing items came to light, our experience has been of each company pointing at the other as the responsible party, with us in the middle. Before contracting an international move with IVL, we would advise asking in writing which destination services IVL will perform itself and which will be sub-contracted, and obtaining the precise scope-of-work and standard terms governing each leg.
In our view much of the packing-side problem is connected to staffing. Packing took several days. The crew that initially arrived was undersized for the scope of the move; later in the process the team appeared to recognise this and brought in additional packers under time pressure. The variable quality of the packing across our shipment looks to us like the visible result of that improvisation.
A major-brand US sofa-bed is currently sitting in our UK car park: it was delivered broken, we refused to accept it, and IVL’s agent refused to remove it. A major-brand US motorised standing desk is currently in pieces around our house: it was dismantled by IVL in Texas, parts of it were delivered unwrapped, and IVL’s agent refused to reassemble it on the same scope-of-instruction grounds.
After the damage was identified, IVL telephoned us, for the first time, to demand an additional USD 15,000 retrospective storage-in-transit insurance fee.
Future customers should be aware that, in our experience, IVL’s response to problems relies heavily on the consumer’s precise compliance with standard-form contractual notices issued during the move itself — and on time-limited contractual get-out clauses that may not be flagged before things go wrong. Read every document carefully, keep your own dated copies of everything signed during packing, and do not assume that an unhurried later opportunity to raise concerns will be available.
We have served formal written complaints; a Federal Maritime Commission CADRS request and a UK consumer-law complaint are in preparation.
UPDATE: You can see IVL's response to this review made shortly after posting. The facts in it speak for themselves, and IVL don't attempt to challenge any of them in their response. It's easy to suggest "there are two sides to every story" — but that framing implies a reasonable excuse for IVL's behaviour, and IMHO there simply isn't one.
In a telephone conversation with IVL after I discovered the loss and damage, their first substantive reaction was to try to blame me for their poor packing — apparently I hadn't complained enough at the time.
IVL's reply also promises that "management" will be in touch; I'll update this thread if and when that actually happens.
It's their job to do their job, their job to control their subcontractors and agents, and their job to identify a way to actually address the chaos they have created. They are not being 'disparaged', they are being called out.
[Note: the 'date of experience' is for the first delivery into the UK, there were periods of storage in both the USA and UK, with IVL or their subcontractors.]

Gary,
First, I’d like to sincerely apologize for the frustration you experienced during your move. That’s never the experience we aim to provide.
There are several details surrounding your move that aren’t fully reflected here, but our focus remains on addressing your concerns and working toward a fair resolution. We’ve successfully handled tens of thousands of moves over the years, and our team takes situations like this seriously.
We understand that you’re dissatisfied, and we've acknowledged your feedback. A member of our management team will be reaching out to you directly to review everything in detail and resolve any outstanding issues.
The movers worked hastily, damaging a sentimental item I had packed myself by reopening my closed box and throwing random items in to pack it. They were careless in this way. Additionally, the company raised the price at each stage once we had no choice but to continue since they had our stuff.

We had an extremely disappointing experience with International Van Lines during our move from Florida to Oregon. Unfortunately, thousands of dollars worth of our belongings were damaged, lost, or never returned.
Our shipment arrived weeks later than originally promised, and when it did, many items were either broken or missing entirely — including two damaged beds, missing electronic cords and devices, a missing sleeping bags, mat, dresser mirror, cooler, and numerous other badly damaged household items that we had to end up replacing. It was shocking to see the condition of our goods after trusting a full-service moving company with everything we owned.
To make matters worse, we found all our home contents had been “on-sold” during transit, and there has been no meaningful accountability or resolution. We spent hours documenting everything through their insurance portal, only to be offered a reimbursement of approximately $165 far from what was lost and damaged.
Having moved cross-country before (and even internationally) without issue, this experience was incredibly disappointing and stressful. Based on our experience, we would not recommend using this company under any circumstances.

Hi Nic,
I read your review and sincerely apologize that this move was below ours/your standards. It's never intentional for a move not to go according to plan, and although we don't get many complaints, we admit that issues can arise. We want to take full responsibility for the issue, and I will email you to learn more about the chain of events and do my best to make things right.
We signed a moving contract with them to move from Phoenix AZ to a town in Maine. They have had our items for 22 days and during that time it's been incredibly hard to get ahold of them, they were unable to give us an estimation of time when we could expect our items, we got less than 24 hours notice when the driver would be arriving, and upon arrival the driver said that we would need to help unload our items since he wasn't able to get help. My partner and i both have physical limitations which is the reason why we spent six thousand dollars by this company to be moved by then. Don't recommend

Overall they got the job done. All our stuff arrived moving from Austin, Texas to Reno, Nevada.
Pro's
Excellent communication regarding pickup and drop off.
Pickup was perfectly timed on the move out date.
Our driver was excellent in providing updates even when unforseen (truck was leaking coolant) delays happen. The movers who packed the big stuff were friendly and respectful. The people unloading were pretty friendly and respectful.
Cons.
Payment system for deposit seems sketchy. Sure they are trying to keep costs down but man it feels like low security / never see your money again. Terribly uncomfortable start to a big expensive move.
I also compared the cost of PODS versus movers. PODS qouted me $4700 (Load myself) versus $4200 if someone moved it for us. I asked PODS why do people perfer this method? Because we are flexable on delivery dates if you want to change your mind. I thought I need it there on this date for my family I might as well get the mover option. We were qouted 800 Cubic feet after a virtual walk through on the phone with $5 per cubic ft for overage for our 2 bed 2 bath apartment we lived in for 8 months. We only got the basics since we knew we'd be moving long distance soon. Seems resonable. As we got closer to our date I started to purge some bigger stuff like TV stand, other things that take up ackward amounts of space that we can buy at the destination. We also vaccum packed all of our clothing into containers saving 80% of space. No hanging pictures, no plants. At the end of the pack up we were over our original space by 25%! 800 qouted --> 1000 cubic feet actual. This translate from $4200 to $5200 bill after purging excessive items we never planned to. I can only imagine we would have went up to an additonal 200 cubic feet had we kept the original qouted items putting our bill at probably $6200. This tells me they are incentivized to under Bid you as the customer and shock you at the arrival. If we assume that it means their estimate is off by 50%. Can you imagine getting a qoute for a fence and after it's built hearing sorry it's gonna be 50% more money for my mess up. Unexceptable. 10% is resonable, 20% is pushing it. Honestly should have just went with the PODS and added movers to help with the PODS, or move it yourself.
If you do go this route just plan for 20-40% more than the qoute and you'll be good.
Oh, the people at the transfer warehouse don't care how they stack your items. We had 30 home depot same medium sized storage containers and another 35 of a large size. Did they stack the similar size? The original pick up guys did. Once it arrived at the destination it was just a mess with everything. I could count on one hand how many containers were stacked in a nice order. Pretty embrassing. I also labelled everything in particular all I cared about was the fragile containers which had multiple labels on it. Guess what, the fragile box was on the very bottom supporting everything above it touching the roof. 7+ containers = boxes.
I will say nothing was broken due to our packing efforts but I was just shocked and stressed as I saw this.
The last straw. Delivery. We took 2 weeks from the move out date to move our 7 month old and 2 dogs across the country. When did our stuff arrive? 2 weeks later than our first date available for pickup. What was the real kicker? Being in our new house for 1 week before I reached out and ask is our stuff on the way? I haven't heard anything. They said it's being loaded on the truck as we speak. Not a big deal until they said it will be 1 week before it arrives to you since we have numerous stops along the way. Wait, you mean to tell me you are able to give me 1 weeks notice before delivery but yet couldn't time is closer to the original acceptance date? We spent two weeks having to purchase doubles of things while we waited. Yes it's expected based on the original contract and if we were charged the qoute I would have agreed they kept to the contract. The fact we were terribly under bid, had to fork up extra money, and it took 2 weeks to arrive I am deeply dissappointed and would recommend PODS instead. Save yourself the stress if you are moving with a family.
IVL was such a stress relief for my family....
I moved from California to Texas they made my move super easy. The staff at IVL are super friendly and helpful they made my experience so easy I would definitely hire them again.
IVL was such a stress relief to our move from California to NJ last month! What we thought was going to be a logistical nightmare to set up and subsequently go forward with turned out to be one of the smoothest, easy and simplified processes of the move! They were incredibly helpful, resourceful and professional. They definitely know what they are doing and I wish I could award more than just 5 stars because they were exceptional. Thank you so much from the Storey Family!
I was moving 2 states away and I had the stress of doing it by myself. International Van Lines took my stress. They were quick and very professional. They handled everything with care. My move was so much eaiser thanks to them
