Don't be fooled by Fonus

I have an Android phone. Since I was with Fonus about 3 years ago,we spent over 40 hours on their chat to fix my problems that were reoccuring when I was crossing the USA-Canada border. At the end of March 2026 I asked to upgrade my plan to unlimited. I was supposed to have 5G speed all month. When I compared my wife's phone speed on the same Fonus company (She had the basic plan) before she used the gist 5 Gigs she was getting well over 140 Mbps while after the 4 of April my speed got down to 0.5 Mbps for the entire month. I then got back on the basic plan for May. I asked them to give me the service I was supposed to have for the price of the basic. Answer: we don't do that. I have been fooled once but not twice, I don't do that. A company that treat their customers like that not deserve to have customers. If I could have given them -20 stars that is what they deserve.

Complicated and perfectly resolved.

There was a lot of confusion as what we were asking was a little complicated. The customer service support from Emily was thorough, and she stayed with us until every last detail was complete. I really love this company and their vision of excellence.

The worse experience I have had, ever

The worse experience I have had with any company ever! They said they offered Internet, phone calls and texts. The Internet worked, the phone hardly did and I have never been able to send a text. I have now taken out a service with a new provider they are refusing to provide a PAC code! Yes refusing! They even said my PAC code is my telephone number! They were though unable to activate my number without EE sending a PAC code, which is also on the paper form they ask to be filled in and charge £10 for... My account is paid up and still active, so unless I'm willing to lose my number of over 25 years, they have me over a barrel until I can get it. Their customer service is by chat or or email only. 3 peoples names with loads of different operators behind the names, so they never know the history. Stock answer is "I will inform our team about this" Don't touch this company, they are as bad as bad can be!!!

after many frustrating techs generous…this tech was the best

after many frustrating techs generous contributions to solve this the last one was the best. figured it out and got me up and running again I am so happy to have.had his/her help to end the frustration of trying so many different solutions that didn’t work.. it was a axing to get the technician that had the knowledge to finally figure it out.

Outstanding service - Truly above and beyond!

Fonus Mobile has completely exceeded my expectations. From day one, the service has been seamless, reliable, and incredibly user‑friendly. What truly sets Fonus apart, though, is their exceptional team. They genuinely go out of their way to help, making sure every question or concern is handled quickly, patiently, and with a personal touch. You don’t often find a company where support feels this human and proactive. The team doesn’t just solve problems—they care. It’s clear they’re invested in their customers’ experience, not just providing a service. The coverage and performance have been excellent, and the peace of mind that comes with knowing you’re backed by such a responsive, dedicated team is priceless. Because of this experience, I’ll proudly be an ambassador for Fonus Mobile and recommend them without hesitation to friends, family, and anyone looking for a mobile service they can truly trust. If you’re on the fence—don’t be. Fonus Mobile is the real deal.

A fair review as opposed to sneaky t's and c's

Unlimited data means subject to what we thinks is fair. To be fair, I was on track for about 80GB data in the month, as I use a lot of video and watch movies- the E-Sim was for my journey and initial stay in Portugal. What I object to is not declaring exactly the Fair Usage at sign on, I would have managed my data differently. I got no notification and spent a good few hours figuring stuff out. Thanks Fonus. Not. I also could not receive emails, or top up my Revolut account leaving me vulnerable. I tried to reply to their belatedly received email, outlining similar points to the above-but of course it is a "no reply" email address. Hence I feel that this negative review is more than fair. BTW, Portugal internet uses more reliable internet providers in Vodafone. It is faster, cheaper and claims to be fully unlimited for hotspot use, and tethering. Duh

Mostly recommended

Best global data plan price I found and also SMS and calls. Note like most global/nomad plans these are "virtual" phone numbers (you can have multiple) but it works well using in-app for calls (limited testing), and push notifications for SMS. And beats getting charged a fortune when needing to make a call from wherever. Though there were some issues with the country code I initially selected so I switched to U.S. one. Also customer support is good - always get a human on live chat responding and solving the problem quickly. Losses a star: had to change mobile settings a handful of times to get network to work again. And despite trying many things it did not work in Japan and had to buy an eSIM.

A total disaster, Worst mistake ever

A total disaster. If you are from North America avoid at all costs. Even with a physical SIM card it does not work even to 30% of a low end provider. If you want your clients to doubt you, get really bad service from Ursula or whoever, no vm, no iMessage, weak phone calls that drop every few minutes. A disaster. Save your money and potential revenues. Place them in a garbage can and burn them. If you are from Canada or the USA you will get screwed by Fonus. I have screen shots to prove everything. Worst mistake ever so unprofessional

Great service

I have been with Fonus for a couple of years, travelling all over Europe. Seldom an issue and when I do, it's solved quickly and efficiently. Wish I moved my Canadian cell# years earlier. Better service and connection than Rogers and Telus.
