What people say

HORRIBLE QUALITY AND GREASY, WHITE CAST

TL;DR: horrible quality, the moisturizer is super greasy and left a white cast on my face twice, even after reformulating REALLY disappointed with my experience. The experience felt very catered to my needs and I had high hopes after reading many reviews but the quality of the actual creams is so disappointing. They knew that oiliness was one of my main concerns but my day moisturizer was SO FREAKING GREASY. So. Greasy. Like after I put it on I could use two entire blotting sheets and soak them both totally through with the greasiness from the moisturizers. And it left a white cast ALL OVER my face and it started rubbing off in pills - and no I did not rub it in too much. If I rubbed it any less, I would have streaks of cream like I clearly needed to rub it in. REALLY DISAPPOINTING. I asked for another formula to get rid of the white cast and when the second thing came, the white cast was slightly less but still there and the GREASINESS was still SO bad. Even my own sunscreen doesn’t leave that much grease. I was very surprised by how terrible this moisturizer is in my skin considering both of the founders also have East Asian skin. I was excited to support Asian women entrepreneurs but man, this product is horrible! The cleanser also feels super greasy and oily and I was surprised by how many great ingredients are put in the cleanser (which is on your face for maybe 30 seconds) and left completely out of the moisturizer (which stays on your face all day/night. Ask any dermatologist, the ingredients in your cleanser are NOT going to affect your skin that much (besides the soap effect of washing away dirt and oil) when the product is on your skin for such little time. The night cream is the only thing half decent from the pack. But it smells really funny. Anyway, REALLY disappointed. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Awful smelly product and horrible customer support.

I’m only giving one star because I have to. This company is AWFUL, a fraud. They continue to deny my emails requesting the cancellation and bill me and send me this awful smelling product. They refuse to give me a refund or even exchange the product. STAY AWAY!!!! My night cream legit smells the rotten eggs and makes me gag and they refuse to “reformulate” it for me or give a refund or cancel my account! The product also is nothing special! It has done nothing for my skin. Don’t buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They don’t even have a customer care number!

Need to wait and see

My skin feels better, and the parts that aren’t broken out look better, unfortunately I’ve had a ton of breakouts since using Proven. My skin is extra sensitive, so thinking the switch deserves a bit more time to judge. It’s not cystic acne, just seems to be purging and honestly my diet has been TERRIBLE so it could be that, too. Hanging in there for a couple more months!

Product are good if you have the time and patience to wait for adjustments.

I like the products and they do adjust them regularly to the season and to how your skin is reacting. Unfortunately, my skin has not really improved yet using this system. I am giving it one last shot (I’m about to get my third set). The people responding to the email are usually not very helpful. I told them the first batch made my skin worse and they pretty much told me to wait and give it more time. So hoping they do something different this time. The products do feel nice on my skin and don’t irritate it. They also have products have pregnant/nursing women which was a huge plus.

Faulty pumps

My last shipment none of the pumps were working on the products I thankfully had saved me precious bottles and swapped out the tops but it was still difficult to get them to come out. I also don’t think it’s necessary for every 8 weeks or maybe make them smaller ?

Do not recommend

There are many reasons I would strongly recommend against using Proven Skincare. Proven is overpriced, there are other personalized brands that are a fraction of the price. The subscription plan offers the fourth set free and I was still charged for it. The customer service is the worst I’ve dealt with. They take 2-3 days to respond by email and they have no phone number. So it takes weeks to have a conversation with them and then nothing gets resolved. Delivery times are random and scattered. I went without my skincare products for over 6 weeks while there were delays. Again, customer service was no help. Now let’s get to the product itself. It feels nice, but it doesn’t help wrinkles and the cleanser doesn’t feel like it cleans anything. I had to use all my other products in addition to the Proven line. While they claim it can replace all your other products, it can’t. Also, they personalize it using a survey that they claim you can retake so they can update your product formulations. I retook the survey before every shipment with much different answers and the formulation never changed. Overall, it’s a big waste of money.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! The cleanser left a residue on my skin, the night moisturizer made my skin itchy and a little red by morning, and the worst product was the day moisturizer that right after I put it on left my skin still feeling dry and flaky. And to top it all off, they don’t give refunds even if you had a reaction to the products. And it is not the cheapest of skincare either.

Unhelpful customer service

I reached out to customer service to assist with amending an order, and the rep was not helpful. Instead of amending my order, I was given instructions on how to navigate the website.

Sketchy company

Sketchy company. Beware of their positive Facebook reviews. They just delete any comments from dissatisfied customers to make it look like all customers are happy. The products were good. But the customer service is absolutely terrible. Their advertised shipping and response times on their website are highly inaccurate. Icing on the cake: when I reached out on Facebook to provide some polite feedback on my disappointment with the shipping and response times and a malfunctioning face cleanser dispenser, they replied with a lie regarding my order and then when I caught them in their lie they deleted my comment and blocked me. Super sketchy. Side note: prior to the Facebook sketchiness and them straight up lying, I would have rated them as a 3 because the products were nice, but my issues were just with the slow orders/ responses and the customer service. But the lying/blocking pushed me to a 1 star review

AVOID Proven if you have sensitive skin

I really wanted to given Proven a chance. I was very attracted to Proven due to its formulas being “scientifically based.” Unfortunately despite specifying in the questionnaire that I have very sensitive skin, the night cream I got actually caused my skin to turn red, itchy, very dry, and scaly and caused burning and stinging, especially worse around my eyes and mouth. I was initially hesitant to buy my custom formulation because it contained plant oil based ingredients (tea tree oil and neem oil). However I decided to chance it because of their boast of being based on 4000 research articles. I trusted Proven and my trust was “proven” wrong. It also caused me to get an acne breakout on my cheeks and around my mouth. My acne has been well controlled for years so a new breakout of this magnitude was definitely caused by the night cream. I emailed customer service about it and was told to continue it for 28 days and that the acne was just my skin adjusting to the granactive retinol. They never addressed my side effects of the redness, dryness, burning, and stinging. I was seriously concerned that they advised me to continue it for 28 days— I could develop an allergic contact dermatitis. I was very disappointed they didn’t offer to reformulate the product to remove the plant oil based ingredients and instead told me to continue risking my skin to have a worse reaction. Another con was the night cream smelled horrible, like rotten eggs. I wouldn’t have minded if the product actually worked. The pump bottles for the cleanser and spf day cream are poorly designed. I could not get the pumps to work. They don’t do refunds which is a bad customer service policy. I canceled my subscription right away. I had such high hopes for Proven but unfortunately was not a good fit for my sensitive skin. So people with sensitive skin beware, even if you tell them your skin is sensitive, they’ll still put plant oil based ingredients in there that could cause a reaction. I learned my lesson.

DO NOT ORDER

DO NOT ORDER! They lie about what is in their products. Their site specifically said that my day cream would not contain any chemical sunscreen, but once I received the order I realized this was false advertising. The first two active ingredients in the product are homosalate and octocrylene. When I emailed customer service to try to get this resolved, I was bullied and told that I should be cool with chemical sunscreen since I use other chemicals like retinol in my skin care routine. Excuse me?? This is a complete bait and switch company. This company is a scam.

Content but not wowed

So far I’m content with Proven. It has made my skin much softer, but I have not seen any overall improvement with the amount of redness I have in my skin. The specific nightcream recommended for my is also relatively smelly. If I’m paying this much for a system I’d prefer that it not smell so bad and provide marked results. I will say that it hasn’t made anything worse, but I want to give it another few months to compare progress before I decide to recommit or go back to my old routine.

Love it and hate it

I love, love this product line. Unfortunately, I don’t love my customer experience. While the emails & marketing all consistently present a customer-first ideology, the truth is much different. Every single one of my orders has taken an inordinate amount of time to arrive. And when I reached out to ask for customer support I was basically told how to address the problem myself instead of just fixing it for me...ultimately costing even more time. Super frustrating but the product itself is awesome.

Work on Skin Tone & Problems to be Fixed

I wish there was a bit more detail in the quiz about scaring, pigmentation, and skin complexion. Especially for a darker skin tone but not dark-dark. Other than that, it tends to work pretty well.

Customer Service is Not Great, Cannot Change Skin Preferences

Proven claims to have great customer service and customizable skincare. I haven't found that to be accurate. A recent email states: "And if there’s anything you’re unhappy about with PROVEN, please feel free to respond to this email, and I’ll personally address it for you." I sent a response almost a month prior to this review and did not receive a reply. I just sent a message through the Contact Us page on the website, which reset after I clicked Submit so it did not give me confirmation that my message was sent or received. I will cancel my subscription if I do not get a response. I am unhappy with my formula. That leads me to my second point. Sure, I answered the skincare quiz at the start and they came up with my customized formula. After five months of use, I have given it enough time for my skin to adjust and I do not like the results (which prompted me to reach out to them in the first place). My skin is dry and my fine lines are more pronounced. My skincare profile says I live in a "very humid" climate but this is not accurate (it rains a lot in Oregon but it isn't humid in the way that keeps your skin hydrated or sweaty and your hair frizzy). Trying to modify my answers on the skincare quiz does nothing--it treats the user like a brand new customer, asks for a name, and then prompts a new signup. I do get more pimples using Proven, which at first I attributed to the transition but could also be the dry skin cells. If only someone would listen...

Could be better at modifications

I really like the night cream and the cleanser but the daily moisturizer is making my face very dry, pale, and white (maybe from the SPF)? They said that they weren't able to take the SPF out of my formula after consulting..

If I could give 0 stars I would

If I could give 0 stars I would! I had been using for several months and was happy enough even though the night cream left my face so sticky that I would stick to my pillowcase all night. When I asked about this early on I was told “it shouldn’t do that” ok, well it does and always does. The auto ship was a little too quick for me so I ended up having two unopened boxes at once. I noticed that the formulations we totally different, the night cream was the same color and smell but had a grainy texture, like an exfoliant. Mind you , I was many months into using this product, so I emailed customer service to let them know something was wrong. They asked for a picture and said they would send me the proper one and that was that. I opened the second box to check and see if this box was correct and it was the same as the other one, not my formulations. Everything smelled different and even looked different. I was told by customer service to take pictures of my regular product next to the one that was wrong. I did this, noting my day cream usually had a tan color and pleasant smell, the wrong was was white and smelled very medical. I placed each product on my hand and sent them the picture. Apparently the company thinks I am wrong my formulation a are correct and that’s that. Wait what?!?!? ? Umm...no they are not and I have no idea what I am putting on my face. I received an email a while back about why they had a delay in shipment and it was because they were switching from their start up facility to a bigger facility. After this is when I received two shipments of the wrong product. It seems as if the quality control no longer exists, buyer beware! I would discourage anyone from using this company’s products as you really have no idea what you are putting on your face and customer service does not care either.

Such a horrible experience from the…

Such a horrible experience from the jump! Never got product and am already fed up with this company! Disclaimer I have never tried these products. This review is purely on the service I have received! Ridiculous!
