Reviewers had a great experience with this company. Customers frequently praise the digital platform for its incredible flexibility, straightforward onboarding process, and extremely convenient virtual communication options that make starting therapy accessible. Many people appreciate the professional and deeply caring approach of their assigned therapists, noting how supportive and helpful the weekly sessions truly are. However, some people mentioned significant issues regarding high pricing structures and being continuously charged full fees even for unused therapy sessions. A few other consumers also felt that customer support was completely unhelpful and unresponsive when urgent billing concerns or scheduling problems arose.

What people say

Betterhelp is a very good therapy platform

Betterhelp is a very good therapy platform because it is flexible and you can connect with your therapist via text, phone,or video. It is easy to use and they also offer group therapy where you can connect with others. The classes are fantastic as they are insightful and informative. You can either attend live or you can watch a recording. They offer tools like journal as well as a platform to manage goals . I would recommend betterhelp because it is effective in many ways.

One thing I really appreciated about…

One thing I really appreciated about BetterHelp was how easy they made the process of finding the right counselor. When I signed up, I was able to answer questions about my concerns, goals, and the areas where I needed support. Based on my responses, BetterHelp matched me with a therapist whose background and experience aligned with what I was looking for. As someone who was already feeling overwhelmed, having a platform that guided me through the process and helped narrow down the options was incredibly helpful. Instead of spending hours trying to figure out who might be a good fit, I felt like the matching tools took my needs into consideration and connected me with someone who understood the challenges I was facing. The process felt personalized rather than one-size-fits-all, which made it much easier to take that first step toward getting help. Knowing that I could also switch therapists if needed gave me additional confidence in the process. Overall, the matching tools and personalized approach made finding support much less stressful and helped me feel more comfortable beginning my counseling journey.

Better Help is the stress free way to go.

Better Help matched me with my therapist and I couldn’t be more grateful. I was pretty skeptical at first, but I can’t imagine having anyone else. And it broadens your search by being a video call instead of in-person which gets you linked with the right person. Great resource. Highly recommended.

Disaster. Unprofessional service.

If I could give less than 1 star I would. My wife booked an intro session with a therapist and this so called "professional" compared her life to "an episode of shameless". She persisted, tried someone else and the next person just failed to show up. Honestly atrocious.

We have a Member Success team who can help address these types of concerns and offer solutions and support to members on the platform. I was billed $85.00 every week for 36 consecutive weeks — a total of $3,060.00 — without my authorization. The charges ran from May 3, 2025 to February 14, 2026. That is 8 months of unauthorized weekly billing that did not stop even after I reported it to both BetterHelp and my financial institution. My bank directed me to contact the merchant. BetterHelp has not refunded a single dollar. I originally turned to BetterHelp because I was struggling with my mental health. Instead of help, I received 36 unauthorized charges, zero resolution, and financial stress that has made my situation significantly worse. I have submitted a formal legal demand letter and I am prepared to escalate this to the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Service Alberta under the Consumer Protection Act, and small claims court. This is not a billing dispute. This is 36 weeks of documented unauthorized charges that continued after being reported. I have every transaction date and amount on record. I am sharing this publicly so others know what to expect. If this has happened to you, file a complaint with the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov. You are not alone.

Hi Suzanna, We apologize for any confusion or frustration, but we have received only one email from you (a few hours before it appears this review was posted). Our team responded less than 5 hours later. We recommend checking your SPAM or JUNK folders if you are not seeing our reply in your inbox. Please note that the billing agreement is for a membership to the BetterHelp platform and access to all our features. The automatic membership renewal charges are outlined when you're selecting your plan, prior to entering your payment information. We also send an email immediately after you're charged further outlining the agreement and reminding members that they're billed automatically until they cancel. It also informs members of how to cancel, through their "My Account" page. We apologize again for the confusion, and we hope you're able to find our message!

The most import time and money you'll ever spend on yourself

I felt a lot of confidence that I could request a new therapist at any time. I have kept my original match. She has helped me recognize how things from childhood affect my current choices and behaviors. I have learned and so much and adjusted so much. I wouldn't trade my time with my therapist for anything.

The therapist I was matched with is…

The therapist I was matched with is really great. As somebody who is 31 and never been to therapy, it was a little intimidating. There are 3 options for sessions, video, phone call and messenger. They offer free classes to participate in, I did that before meeting with a therapist and it helped me get a feel for the platform. There is a variety of classes, it is very inclusive. I would recommend this app.

A complete scam

A complete scam. You pay monthly but if your therapist cancelled your appointment, that's it you lost it for another week. Disgusting business practice

We are actually happy to extend your membership in any situation where a session is canceled by the therapist (or rescheduled last minute)! This would allow you more time to book your make-up session. We're really sorry for the frustration and lack of clarity, however. I've requested the email address linked to your BetterHelp account in case you haven't already been in touch with our Member Success team. This will allow us to follow up with you directly, if still needed.

Better Help has been a great way to restart my therapy journey with ease.

Better Help has been a great way to ease back into therapy. The pricing is unbeatable compared t regular market rates and the platform makes booking my weekly sessions easeful. Additionally, Better Help matched me to a fantastic therapist who just gets me - that is RARE to find these days, especially for online based therapy. I am pleased with my experience so far and look forward to keeping Better Help as a part of my mental health journey moving forward! There are so many options to make it fit for your needs.

You take a questionnaire in which you are honest then it just gives you the Samaritans number when what I want is an English speaking therapist as I live in Portugal as an expat and can't access services (English speaking). What use is that?

Reply from BetterHelp2026-06-02

Hi Sean, We can definitely understand your frustration here, and you should have been matched with an English-speaking therapist even if you signed up in Portugal. We should be able to help get this sorted out for you if you're still interested in online therapy! I've requested your email address through Trustpilot so that our team can reach out to you directly if you'd like our help. Talk soon, BetterHelp Team

Really helpful…

I was matched with a Therapist after writing a brief account of what I was going through so I knew that the therapist would be suitable for me. I was comfortable from the start and my therapists calm and kind nature made it easy for me to open up to her. She has listened and offered coping strategies with out any prejudice or judgement.

AVOID

AVOID Betterhelp: I tried them about 15 months ago for both group and one-on-one therapies. The group setup felt more like group venting without valuable feedback from the therapists moderating, which ended up feeling more tiring than being heard. The one-one was much worse. I felt in ways violated due to the carelessness and total inattention of the therapist I was assigned (at one point her preteen son came into the room she was calling in from, and she helped him with his homework for a few minutes, then laughed it off with a careless, 'Sorry, where were we.' She didn't offer responsive questions or acknowledgements, it almost never felt authentically conversational, she simply went through a literal checklist of questions on her screen, about really vulnerable aspects of my life. The whole thing is unprofessional, jarring, and could potentially be really harmful for those without any prior experience working with GOOD therapists, or even simply caring therapists, whether online or in person. After this, I cancelled immediately, emailed the company with feedback, and would never consider subscribing again. AVOID AVOID AVOID. It's a money making endeavour, an online cash machine. Not legit in valuing real mental health and prioritising safety and relational skills. Total disservice to the mental health professional industry.

Hi Beverly, We appreciate your willingness to share your feedback and are sorry to hear about your poor experience in both the Group session setting as well as with your first individual session. We can certainly understand your concern and frustration given what you've described. We take clinical quality and privacy both very seriously, and want to be sure this is thoroughly investigated to do what we can to prevent these types of occurrences from happening. DO NOT USE BETTERHELP

DO NOT USE BETTERHELP, DO NOT TRUST OTHER REVIEWS 1. BETTERHELP HAS BEEN CAUGHT FAKING THE REVIEWS ON THIS WEBSITE 2. BETTERHELP IS NOT A LISCENSED THERAPIST SITE, THE "THERAPISTS" ARE LESS QUALIFIED THAN UBER DRIVERS 3. UNLIKE REAL THERAPY BETTER HELP IS NOT CONFIDENTIAL, THEY SELL EVERYTHING YOU SAY TO ADVERTISERS PLEASE USE ANY OTHER THERAPY SERVICE!!!

I'm afraid none of these claims are true, Ivy, but we are sorry if you may have had a poor experience at some point using our service. We do not solicit reviews of any kind (on any site), all therapists go through extensive onboarding flows and must be fully licensed to practice independently, as well as being in good standing with their respective licensing boards. Finally, adhere to strict privacy restrictions surrounding the protection of sensitive user data and health information. We are not paid by anyone for user data.

Absolutely incredible

Absolutely incredible. Had to go through 4 therapists before I struck gold, but that's normal for everyone when starting out. Nothing against BetterHelp at all, it just takes a few sessions to really find that person for you. On that note, this may be one of the best companies I've ever dealt with. Their platform, their commitment to care... I wish I would've thought of it! I found my therapist, and my life is so much better for it and continuing to become amazing again. Ms. Hyun Lee is the best therapist and the most compassionate and honest person I've ever dealt with in any medical capacity. I'm a grown man, and my only requirements were: therapist must be female, and must believe in Jesus Christ. Non negotiable. I feel blessed to have Hyun; she is an actual angel on earth. She'll be my therapist until one of us dies. I love her, and she checks on me randomly just to make sure I'm doing ok. Unbelievable 💚 A+++++ and THANK YOU BH, an actual great company doing actually great things and actually helping people. Keep up the life saving work, God knows this govt won't do it, and our sickcare system can't even act half as proficient or moral as this company. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Please don't get greedy or ever lose your integrity and start acting up when the money becomes unimaginable. That's where things always break good companies: lots of money, greed, selfishness, and lots of employees = serious opportunities for corruption. I love you guys, stay frosty. People want to eat your lunch. I cant have that.
