⚠️ STAY AWAY FROM EXPEDIA. DO NOT BOOK THROUGH THEM.
Based on my experience, I will never use Expedia again, and I strongly urge others to think very carefully before trusting them with their travel plans.
I booked a United Airlines flight through Expedia with a 2-hour layover in Chicago the weekend before Thanksgiving. Knowing how busy Chicago is during one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, I contacted Expedia to change my connecting flight to a later one that was still showing as available to book.
After spending around THREE HOURS on the phone, I was repeatedly told that the later flight wasn't available, despite it still being available to book online. I was told my only options were to keep an itinerary that I believed put me at a very high risk of missing my connection or cancel the booking for airline credit.
Before agreeing to cancel, I asked FOUR SEPARATE TIMES exactly how the airline credit would work. I specifically explained that I no longer wanted to deal with Expedia and asked whether I could use the credit directly on the United Airlines website.
I was assured four separate times that the credit could be used directly with United Airlines.
That information turned out to be completely wrong.
When I tried to book my replacement flights directly with United, the credit couldn't be applied. I called United and was told that because my original booking had been issued as a bulk fare through Expedia, the credit could only be managed and redeemed through Expedia.
I then contacted Expedia again, only to be told the exact opposite—that the credit could only be used directly with United.
So now I'm stuck with Expedia telling me to contact United, and United telling me to contact Expedia.
Because I needed to secure flights, I had no choice but to pay for a new booking myself. As a result, I am now more than £900 out of pocket, while the airline credit I was repeatedly told I could use remains inaccessible.
I've wasted hours on the phone, been given incorrect information that directly influenced my decision to cancel my original booking, and have been left caught between two companies, each telling me it's the other's responsibility.
In my opinion, this is completely unacceptable customer service.
I'm sharing my experience to warn others before they choose to book through Expedia. If you've had a similar experience, please share it. The more people who speak up, the harder it is for companies to ignore these issues.

I've had an Expedia account for many years and have used it many times. If I want a flight, I select the flight, confirm it and then go to check out. My first name, middle name, last name, country, phone number, gender, and date of birth are all correctly defaulted and the fields are protected so I can't update them. For my last booking, Expedia switched my first name and last name so my airline tickets were all in the wrong name. I called them and they said that British Airways have a $74.80 charge to change it and I had to pay it. Now , they are refusing to refund me for their mistake. Last year, I used Expedia to rent a car. I selected Mercedes class which is a higher cost than normal. Expedia selected a rental car company that did not have Mercedes class cars at all and again they refused to reimburse me anything.

Hi All I have made a booking through Expedia and the Hotel Booking was great and that was on the 12.7.26 On 14.7.26 I conducted a general comparison search for flights and saw a great deal with Expedia return flights from the UK to Italy. At the check out I was given the total for my return flight as £149.00 that was a fantastic deal. I made the card payment. Expedia took only £51.09 from my card. I emailed the Expedia support team immediately. Via web chat I go through to the representative who deals with flights, bookings etc. I typed in the information and I requested that they use my card details to finish the booking. The payment had the Booking number 7349534835. The Expedia customer services attendant assured me that in 3 days that the funds would be fully refunded to my account. Unfortunately, the amount of £51.09 hasn't been refunded. Can you assist me? I called my UK bank today and they said that Expedia has to reject the amount the £51.09 is sitting in limbo and when Expedia fully rejects the amount then it will come back to my account automatically. Can someone from Expedia help me because the flight prices are climbing higher.

There was an issue with the hotel accidently charging me double. So I wrote a negative review. Then found out that the problem was caused by Expedia. Asked Expedia "customer service" to remove the poor review of the hotel. Expedia refused. Won't be using Expedia again.

I booked a hotel with Expedia, I travel for work and book many hotel stays every year. So i thought I was fine a booked a stay only to find out the hotel was infested with roaches. I immediately left the room went to the front desk and demanded my refund they said that they had to clear it through Expedia. I didn’t stay a single night. Expedia wouldn’t refund money that day the said they needed to email the hotel first a few days later I received a partial refund which I called Expedia and asked for my full refund since i didn’t spend a single night in the room. They told me a supervisor would reach out in an hour. Said supervisor didn’t reach out till the next day while I was at work and I missed the call. I called back and the customer agent acted as if it was my fault for missing the call. An hour does not mean the next day. They then told me someone would reach back out in 72 hours. It has been 3 weeks since I originally rented the room that I didn’t stay in and still this isn’t resolved

I purchased air and hotel package with Expedia, when we arrived at the hotel we were told we had NO reservation. Went thru both our names and showed him my confirmation, with all that nothing. I called Expedia and a very nice person found my reservation and called the hotel for me and got it all straighten out. For all our trouble the hotel upgraded us to a suite for the front desk person putting us all this trouble. Thank you, Expedia, for saving our day!!!

I have used Expedia for many years, but this experience was very disappointing.
During booking, Expedia showed that the first checked bag would cost $50 (see screenshot). However, when I checked in with United, I was charged $90 for the same bag.
I contacted Expedia customer service and provided the details. Unfortunately, they could not explain why their baggage information was incorrect and offered no solution or compensation.
The inaccurate baggage fee information influenced my purchase decision. If I had known the actual baggage fee was $90 per bag, I would have purchased a higher fare that included one free checked bag. Instead, I relied on the information Expedia displayed and ended up paying significantly more than I expected.
I understand baggage fees are ultimately charged by the airline, but if Expedia displays baggage fee information during the booking process, it should be accurate or clearly indicate when the information may not be current. Otherwise, customers cannot make informed decisions when comparing ticket options.
Because of this experience and the lack of customer support, I will no longer use Expedia and will book directly with the airline in the future.

Terrible experience booking flights through Expedia. Their customer service felt more focused on extracting additional money than helping a customer with genuine medical circumstances.
Before my flight, I became seriously ill and requested to reschedule. Expedia initially quoted me around £250 in penalty fees, plus the fare difference. However, I found I could book an entirely new flight for £200, which made their charges seem unreasonable.
I then contacted the airline directly, explained my medical situation, and provided supporting documentation. The airline confirmed that my change penalty could be waived, meaning I would only need to pay the fare difference. Despite this, Expedia still insisted I pay £300 to rebook, even after acknowledging that the penalty had been waived.
To make matters worse, I spent over two hours on the phone, with the agent repeatedly placing me on hold for around 20 minutes every time I suggested a different travel date. In 2026, it’s astonishing that Expedia doesn’t have a simple system to search for the cheapest available rebooking dates instead of requiring customers to wait while an agent manually checks each option.
Overall, the process was frustrating, inefficient, and far more expensive than it should have been. Based on my experience, I would avoid booking flights through Expedia and deal directly with the airline/other travel agents whenever possible.

I booked a motel in Switzerland for three days. My plans changed, and I cancelled one day of the stay. The motel was most helpful and agreed to only charge me for the two days. Expedia, however, continues to claim that the hotel declined to do so, even though I have a receipt proving that they only charged me for the nights that I stayed. It is in fact Expedia who charged the money in the first place and who owes me the refund! Most dishonest!

Expedia Fraud Investigation Needed — I Am Stranded Abroad and at Risk of Losing Everything
Hello Expedia Support Team,
I am contacting you because I believe I was the victim of a serious fraud involving someone who appeared to have access to my Expedia reservation information.
I received a call from someone claiming to be from Expedia. They told me that I had canceled my own flight, but I never canceled my reservation. They said that because of this, my flight needed to be reissued and that I had to pay an additional $450 USD to reactivate or reissue my ticket.
I trusted the person because they had access to very specific information about me and my reservation. They knew my personal details, my travel information, and other information that made me believe I was speaking with a legitimate Expedia representative.
This situation makes me seriously concerned that there may be an organized scheme involving people connected to Expedia or people with access to Expedia customer information. The pattern appears to be that a customer’s reservation is interfered with or canceled, the customer is contacted using private information to gain their trust, and then they are asked to pay additional money to reissue a flight that they did not cancel themselves.
In my case, I paid the $450 USD because I believed I was fixing a legitimate problem with my Expedia reservation. Now I am stranded in Lisbon, Portugal. My plan was to travel to London and then return home to Mexico, but after losing this money I no longer have the resources I needed. I am in a desperate situation and afraid of being left without a place to stay.
Please do not send me back to the Help Center or simply tell me to speak with another advisor. I have already done that. I need this case escalated immediately to a fraud investigation team or a supervisor who can properly review what happened.
I need Expedia to urgently investigate:
* Who accessed my reservation and personal information.
* Why I was told that I canceled my flight when I never did.
* How my reservation was changed or canceled.
* Where the $450 payment went.
* Whether other customers have experienced the same situation.
I trusted Expedia with my travel plans, and this situation has put me in an extremely difficult position while I am abroad. I need this matter taken seriously and investigated as soon as possible.
Thank you for your urgent attention.

Absolute scam of a company.
We booked a trip in May as we had a few issues with a previous hotel, so looking online we found one available that looked nice via Hotels.com / Expedia, however when we arrived the hotel again was not as described, was dirty and had a horrible unpleasant smell. I've since raised a dispute as we did not stay for the full length of our stay and actually vacated the hotel the same day we checked in.
I've now just had a response from my card provider which shows Hotels.com / Experdia clearly lying on their dispute response saying we actually stayed for the full length of our stay which is incorrect.
They also have a non refundable policy, so DO NOT book any hotels through this scam company. I will also be sharing this review on every other platform possible that advertises hotels.com / Expedia's services.
Just FYI they are also part of Hotels.com

Changing flights is more expensive than what is available
Don't book flights with Expedia as they are mostly non refundable. If booking flights only, go to the website of the airlines directly.
My experience
- Bought flights to Japan for around $600 per passenger
- I needed to change my itinerary. It says it is going to be $100 per passenger plus whatever flight price difference. I am ok with this.
- However upon requesting to process change, I ended up being quoted with additional $700 per passenger even though there are available similar flights with similar airline for $456 per passenger on different dates
- Obviously I wouldn't request for change for something that is cheaper. So basically I just lost $3600 because the tickets are non-refundable and changing it is $700 more per passenger.
Beware of what you're buying, refund and change policies!

Absolutely horrible. Can’t talk to anyone without an accent that you can understand. I’ve requested to three different people to talk to a manager bc I’m being told I can’t be sent an invoice for the 2k I’ve spent with them. Every single of them have told me they can’t send to a manager. I would have to call back in and talk to another baseline employee and ask them. One person in the year 2026 told me it’d take 3 business days to send an email. They also charged me $300 to change my flight tickets weeks in advance. DO NOT USE!!! It’d be less stress to just walk wherever you’re going

I made a reservation for a hotel for 3 nights with Expedia, and I went ahead and had the full amount charged to my card right way. BIG MISTAKE. The actual charge from the hotel was $250.00 less. But Expedia said this is their negotiated discount, not a discount to me. Expedia said I was given an invoice that was an internal document between Expedia and the hotel, not for my eyes. The hotel said since I paid Expedia in full, Expedia then sends them a "virtual card" to charge the actual charges on. Then Expedia keeps the difference. WHAT A SCAM!!!! Update, Expedia asked me to contact them so they could discuss, so I did. Again, same answer, they keep the money because I was stupid enough to pay Expedia in full. Please learn from my lesson, only reserve the booking through Expedia, DO NOT PAY EXPEDIA IN FULL.
