What people say

Disappointing Experience

I would give Expedia 0 stars if it were possible. In May, we booked and paid for a 4-night stay at Hotel Gudhjem Holiday on Bornholm. However, Expedia never actually secured the reservation with the hotel. We only discovered this by pure chance the day before our departure when we called the hotel directly. They informed us that they had no reservation and were fully booked. What makes this even worse is that earlier that same day, Expedia had sent us a confirmation stating that everything was fine, without apparently checking the situation at all. We were left without accommodation just one day before our holiday, while our ferry tickets were already booked and our two teenagers were excited for a vacation that had been planned for months. Expedia eventually offered us a room at Green House Solution in Rønne, and because we had no realistic alternative, we had to accept it over the phone. Unfortunately, that also meant we lost the opportunity to cancel the trip. The replacement hotel was nothing like what we had booked. Instead of a cozy hotel in Gudhjem, we ended up in a large, impersonal conference hotel in Rønne. Our room was located right next to a busy road, making it impossible to enjoy the balcony because of the constant traffic noise. This was not the relaxing holiday we had planned. The entire vacation was negatively affected because of Expedia’s mistake. We did everything correctly, yet Expedia failed to honor our booking and showed very little willingness to take responsibility or provide a satisfactory solution. I cannot recommend Expedia after this experience and will think twice before ever booking through them again.

I will never book a trip with expedia…

I will never book a trip with expedia again. HORRIFIC in every way possible. The room was terrible. When I tried to cancel or change my limo they said I must do it with expedia but expedia said I must cancel with the company. Same with the airlines. Long story short I ended up paying for two limos and two flights.

To start off I booked with Expedia for…a funeral and Expedia is giving me the run around

To start off I booked with Expedia for a hotel to go into Chicago to bury my niece. Upon arrival I paid $100 deposit that wasn’t even explained when I booked. I understand hotels have their own policies so I let it go. I’ve worked in hotels and know sometimes 3rd parties don’t have that information. Upon checking in I was shown 3 different rooms and none of the ac’s were operating correctly. It was 90+ degrees outside so I definitely needed ac. I chose the coolest room at the time. I was told to give the ac unit time and it should cool down. The room didn’t cool until the next evening when the temperature dropped and it still wasn’t cold. The ac unit also leaked water all over the floor wetting up my clothes and shoe boxes I had my shoes stored in. Had to completely throw away the boxes. Then the shower literally trickled water. I had to use a cup to rinse all the soap completely off me. The next morning I woke up and called the desk repeatedly to complain and nobody picked up. When leaving out to attend my nieces funeral I stopped by the desk and complained and was told maintenance would rectify the issue. I left for the day and when I returned I asked if maintenance had done anything I was told maintenance wasn’t in and the desk agent went up and said everything was completely normal. We then went up to the room and I showed him the shower trickled and he said it was because they were sold out and everyone was using the water. That was unacceptable. I asked about the ac unit and was told it does that sometimes and it’s completely normal. I told him I work in hotels and it wasn’t. From Saturday night I called Expedia and asked them to rectify the situation. They attempted to call the hotel multiple times and couldn’t get through. They then sent a email and said the hotel had 24 hours to respond(which they didn’t) and nothing was done. After checkout on Monday I called again and was told the matter was escalated after they couldn’t reach the hotel again. Another email was sent with no response. I called again Tuesday and was told they reached out to the hotel and needed their approval to give me a refund. They stated the matter was escalated again by a supervisor and goin to a special team and they needed to reply in 24 hours. 24 hours passed again and I called back and was told they hadn’t gotten a response and needed to escalate further. I explained to Expedia I paid them not the property and I would of hoped they supported their customers more in this rather than letting the property ignore them and leaving the customer to have to repeatedly follow up with them only to be told they are escalating it. At what point do we stop escalating and do something about the hotel you guys partnered with not accommodating your guests or even responding to legitimate complaints? I’m tired of being told to wait 24 hours and I have called you guys over the course of 5 days now. I don’t think that a good business practice. These hotels need to be held accountable and expedia needs to step up and do something. Hello Expedia I just saw your reply. I am currently on the phone with your customer service and I am being told I just have to wait. How about you look into itinerary number 73498215350428. And give me a call if you’d like to resolve this.

Expedia allows Sixt to steal money from…

Expedia allows Sixt to steal money from their customers. I reserved a car through Sixt with Expedia. When I arrived at Sixt, they refused to rent a car to me because they claimed my ID was damaged. The same ID that I pass through TSA with. The people in front of me had reserv ed a X5 but were told they were getting a Subaru. I had also reserved a X5. I feel like they didn’t have it so they just refused to rent a car to me. The rep said they would refund my money. Sixt told Expedia I was a no show. Then a few days later said it was because of my ID. How could they see my ID if I was a no show? Expedia was no help. I recommend to never use either one of these two companies.

From the bottom of hell

From the bottom of hell, Manuel the “manager” is the final boss of uselessness — the guy you wait an hour to reach so he can calmly inform you that absolutely nothing will be done and this entire nightmare is, somehow, your problem. You crawl your way up the customer‑service food chain, get transferred, put on hold, disconnected, and reconnected, just to finally reach Manuel, the alleged authority… who proceeds to repeat policy lines like a broken NPC and tell you his hands are tied. It’s not rage, not empathy, just that cold corporate shrug: “There’s nothing we can do,” delivered like a death sentence on your time, money, and vacation. In the deepest pit, Manuel isn’t there to solve anything; he’s there to close the loop, politely push you off a cliff, and log your suffering as “resolved.”

Beware when booking through Expedia

‼️Buyer beware when booking through Expedia‼️ I booked a hotel through Expedia while moving my 81 year old mother with dementia from Tennessee to Florida. I received a confirmation number and arrived at the hotel only to be told they had no reservation for me and no rooms available. The hotel directed me back to Expedia which I could not reach a human through their customer support. When I finally got hold of them a few days later, Expedia’s solution was to refund only part of what I paid while keeping a fee, even though I never received the room I booked. I declined because I shouldn’t have to pay for a hotel room that was never provided. I disputed the charge with my Apple Card, but the provisional credit was ultimately reversed because Expedia said they don’t take cancellations and it’s in their policy, however this wasn’t a cancellation, it was a service paid for that was not provided. I wasn’t trying to cancel. I wanted more than anything to get my mom and myself into that room to sleep that night. In fact, I cried in the parking lot because I couldn’t. I ended up paying for another hotel that night out of pocket while I was in the middle of one of the most expensive and difficult situations of my life because I had no other choice. I’m sharing this so others understand the risk of booking through a third party site. If something goes wrong, you may find yourself caught between the hotel and the booking platform while each points the finger at the other. And they are well versed in how to screw you over and keep your money legally. Trash business and I will NEVER use them or any other third party booking site again. Call the hotels to book!

Photos are misleading

The hotel room looked nothing like the listing. It was tiny, outdated, and honestly not very clean. Check-in was a mess because the desk was understaffed.

“After Multiple Bad Experiences, I’m Done With Expedia”

⭐ 1 STAR — Enough Is Enough: I Will No Longer Use Expedia I am extremely disappointed with the way Expedia handled my situation. I booked a hotel through their platform, but when I arrived, the room was in completely unacceptable condition. It was extremely dirty, with stains, hair, debris, and even small insects. I have photographs documenting exactly what I found. I immediately tried to get help because I could not stay in those conditions. Despite explaining the situation and attempting to cancel, Expedia provided no meaningful solution, and I never received a refund for the money I paid. Because the problem was not resolved that night, I ended up sleeping in a public rest area until the following day, when I was finally able to pay for another hotel. No customer should be left in this situation after booking through a major travel platform and asking for help. What made matters worse was being offered approximately $15 in Expedia credit. To me, giving me credit to use the same platform again is simply asking me to continue in the same vicious cycle of poor service instead of actually resolving the problem. This is also not the first time I have experienced problems with Expedia. I have given this platform more than one opportunity, but enough is enough. This latest experience, and especially the complete lack of meaningful support when I truly needed it, is the reason I have made the decision to stop using Expedia altogether. From today forward, I will no longer use Expedia, and based on my repeated experiences, I cannot recommend this platform to my family, friends, or other travelers. A travel company shows its true value when something goes wrong and its customers need help. In my experience, Expedia failed to provide that support when I needed it most.

Absolutely terrible experience

Absolutely terrible experience, tried 4 times to book the same holiday online through them, each time getting a message saying "there is a problem with your payment method".Several phone calls to my bank and hours later to try and sort the "bank card problem" out, I verified there was no problem with my payment method. When I rang Expedia to try to pay over the phone, they quoted £500 more than I had been quoted online and explained that my online booking had been refused due to "lack of availability", despite the error message at booking stating the problem was with my payment and suggesting I "try again", leading to over £2000 in pending payments racked up for a holiday package they knew never existed, not to mention a colossal waste of my time. Massive fraudsters, avoid at all costs!!!🤬

This company sells hotels stay without inspections

This company sells hotels stay, flights and other. Expedia, should get their business straight and honesty is the right thing to do. I bought a hotel stay from them paid almost $400 a night in Clearwater Florida. The name of the Hotel was Edge a complete dump. Disgusting We couldn't believe how dirty was inside. A complete dump! The hotel was going crazy trying to plug ceiling leaks everywhere. They had trash barrels all over the place trying to catch the water. The room was not cleaned. As we walked in it smelled like a dirty old vacuum. Right in the middle of the floor we saw a big ball of hair we couldn't believe. The furniture old the bathroom very outdated. The manager Michael refuse to talk to us! The front desk clueless!! Never again we'll purchase anything from Expedia a bunch of thieves!!

I would not recommend Expedia

After completing my booking and payment, Expedia displayed a message stating that I had until 11:59 p.m. local time on the date of booking to cancel my flight for free. About 3 hours later, I contacted customer service expecting a straightforward resolution. Instead, the representative repeatedly insisted that I had booked on 20 July, without explaining which local time they were referring to or how Expedia's own cancellation message applied to my booking. No effort was made to properly review my case or provide a clear explanation—just the same scripted response over and over. This was one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I've ever had. When you spend thousands of dollars on a booking, you expect knowledgeable staff who understand their own policies and can actually help customers. I would not recommend Expedia. If something goes wrong with your booking, don't expect competent customer service. Save yourself the frustration and book directly with the airline instead.

Lack of commitment to customer safeguarding

I have always trusted Expedia to step in when something goes seriously wrong during a trip. Unfortunately, this experience has completely shattered that trust. The most disappointing part is that we contacted Expedia as soon as the problems began on the first evening, around 6pm. We explained that our hotel room had brown water coming from the taps and shower, the room was in an unacceptable condition and we no longer felt comfortable staying there. We asked Expedia to move us to another hotel. They refused to help. Instead, we were told the booking was non-refundable and were left with no option but to remain at the property. As the situation escalated, it became a genuine safety issue. Another guest was given access to our room and walked in while we were both getting changed. Later that night, hotel staff repeatedly banged aggressively on our door close to midnight demanding to be let in, despite us refusing entry. On another occasion, the same staff member shouted our room number across a busy reception area for everyone to hear, completely disregarding our privacy and security. Throughout all of this, Expedia had already been informed that we were experiencing serious issues. Had they relocated us when we first asked, none of these later incidents would have happened. As two women travelling together, we are incredibly grateful that nothing worse happened. The hotel’s failures were serious, but Expedia’s complete lack of urgency and refusal to assist when we first reached out left us exposed to an escalating situation. Only after the incidents became extremely serious did Expedia begin taking the matter seriously. Customer service in travel isn’t tested when everything goes well—it’s tested when things go wrong. This was the moment Expedia should have protected its customers, and it failed to do so. I expected Expedia to advocate for its customers in a safeguarding situation. Instead, I spent hours trying to convince them that we were unsafe. I would strongly urge anyone booking through Expedia to consider what support you can realistically expect if you ever find yourself in an emergency. In our experience, by the time meaningful help arrived, the damage had already been done.

Flight name correction

I booked a flight for me and my husband, I then noticed I put our names that we go by instead of what was on the passport. I contacted Expedia about the error, they instructed me to submit the name correction form and include our passports. First time on Feb 4 after 2 weeks, I followed up they said they were having issues reaching the airline, and to give it a few days. I followed up 8 more times in an email and 4 calls to see where the issue was held up. I called today and they told me it was not a policy to do a name correction, I asked to speak to a Supervisor, who her name was Cindy. She said there was nothing that she could do but refund, however there was going to be a $60 EURO holdback for both of us. I asked why this would be and she said it was policy, I said I was told numerous times by Expedia they could fix it, I contacted the other airline to see if they could help and they said Expedia would need to fix this. At the end of the day I had to pay more for my flight and refund was half of what I paid. Not great customer service at all.

Do not use Expedia to book any travel…

Do not use Expedia to book any travel or hotel service. On Friday, July 17 I bought a hotel stay too quickly on their mobile site and was not able to double check dates and was checked out for the wrong dates. When I tried to contact Expedia - the virtual agent told me they were having technical difficulties and to contact them again in an hour. I called Expedia directly and they called the hotel and told me that the hotel would not honor a change in date nor a refund. So I called the hotel and definitely the Mondrian Condesa was incredibly unhelpful. Both parties - Expedia and Mondrian say that it is the other's policies that have them ensuring they keep my money rather than providing a simple date change.
