What reviewers say

AI generated

Most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Consumers frequently face sudden account lockouts without any advance warning and struggle to reach customer support. People note that automated chatbots and online contact forms are completely unhelpful when trying to resolve urgent and frustrating login issues. Some reviewers were happy with past experiences, noting the email provider used to be reliable and very easy to set up. Others mentioned that the platform was quite functional, offering good features and a superior service before recent updates. A few users also pointed out that basic features worked exceptionally well for standard free accounts previously.

What people say

I pay monthly for Premium

I pay monthly for Premium. Mail.com automatically saves every email recipient in my contacts. It says I do not have permission to send them more than one email. They have cost me at least one job. The Mailer-daemon, failed to send response takes over a week sometimes. They used to be reliable, I've been with them at least 30yrs. I actually hate them now.

mail.com changed their layout for…

mail.com changed their layout for incoming messages- alike to yahoo.com I left yahoo for this reason! now it is harder to read who sent me the incoming messages - and the date/time break down is plain stupid - we can all read the clock/date and see when a letter was sent - we don't need some idiot telling me what was last week or last month. I DFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO SIGN UP WITH THEM since their "improvement"

Shamboloc recovery process and unable to upgrade to premium - BEWARE before entrusting this service with your email requirements

I set up an email address for a dedicate specific purpose a few months ago, to help me organise responses and to reply to a group of people. Given the issues I’ve had (see below) I would have got a new email from elsewhere, but given i published the email in my documentation to my group, I am stuck with it. All was fine but I was I able to upgrade to premium via the iPhone or iPad apps. Annoying but not intrusive. Then all of a sudden I couldn’t access my emails. They stated there was unusually activity and contact them. It came at an extremely inconvenient as I needed to compose emails and review responses immediately. I emailed them with information but had no timely reply. In desperation I called their support line and was charged £23 something for the privilege. However it did sort the issue. However, this has happened yet again. No access to emails due to unusual activity and I’m told to contact them. I emailed them and they respond immediately asking me loads of security questions and they will respond in 24 hrs. That time has come and there is no response. Why do they not do two factor authentication. Nowadays people use VPNs so recognise people move about. Your security systems are important but why block access. No other Mail client has such issues. I understand the need for protection and security - but here the processes are antiquated and recovery system is shambolic and not free for purpose. I would not recommend mail .com for this reason. It’s a shame because there are some great aspects of their service and I’d rather be writing a great review here. I doubt I’ll get a response but will live in hope.

It's over for Mail.com

I have had a Premium account for the last 15 years and until recently would have said Mail.com provided a superior service with which I was totally satisfied. But we have witnessed the collapse of a great institution through, one suspects, corporate restructure to cut expenditure and maximise profit. As we know, that's the equivalent of writing a commercial suicide note - the best thing to do is leave Mail.com to die its horrible death and take our business elsewhere

Login suddenly no longer works

Login suddenly no longer works, so I cannot access my account. I perfectly remember my password and had last logged in a few weeks ago, yet I am now locked out for no reason whatsoever, even after deleting all browser cookies. Mind you, this is the email address I had used to request my passport renewal, unaware of how unreliable this email provider is. As an experiment I set up a brand new account and tried to login immediately afterwards, only to find out this one was not working either! My advice is, never use mail.com for anything important.

After 35 years of smooth and reliable…

After 35 years of smooth and reliable service i 've started experiencing so much frustration with this mail provider that i am not only steps away from closing the account but actually contacting lawyers and going against this provider. My whole life has been literally locked in due to their constant on and off blocking of my account for no apparent reason. I've followed all the suggested steps ,my account would seem recovered and then blocked 2 days later for no apparent reason again. One cannot really sort this out with AI assistance and when contacting customer service through suggested links i keep receiving multiple responses, some through Spam (on my alternative account ) or through Inbox either mins or even days later(with diferrent refence numbers quoted). Just the weirdest most unreliable dodgy service this has become. Whatever happened to email.com!My firstand for 35 yrs steadily reliable service that has come to complete nightmare experience . Editing the above review 5 days later - rating my experience now comes to zero and minus stars. Just a massive betrayal of one of the longest standing customers- my first ever email address...35 yrs with no problems at all. Reading the other reviews on here i am realising i should just let it go ...sounds like they want me to!!! I've applied numerous times for help and uidance from their Customer Service...and finding out now it is non existent. My only worryt is now that i cannot even close my account properly as have been locked out and blocked for whatever reason that they would not tell me. I can only hope my 35 yrs old data used within this domain doesn't end up being misused...Just appalling...

Boy howdy do I ever regret thinking…

Boy howdy do I ever regret thinking that this was a solid alternative to say, Gmail. It was OK for a couple of years but recently they did a change that has made it completely unreliable. First is with the change I have to set my browser to like 175% to read text in the body of most mail which is just dumb. My paid account now features ads! The phone number they have for a reset isn't close, and tonight I'm locked out. When I login with my credentials I'm sent to a "problems with login" page. Please, do yourself a favor and don't EVEN THINK about using this service. I'm done enough that even though the awful pain of migrating all my contacts will be worth it in the long run. I hope!

Our mail system is a JOKE

Our mail system is a JOKE , if their site says you're package will arrive today , be prepared to get it 5 days later ! I package I paid to have delivered today has been sitting in a warehouse since Thursday at noon a half hour drive from my house ! The manager is best at excuses and playing dumb. It's impossible to talk to live person , as they are just plain lazy. I have been going through this for over a year. You should all be fired , especially the manager .

Robbing customers of their lawyer.com email addresses

I have a lawyer.com email and they just all of the sudden decided to terminate the email. I have been using it for almost 20 years and would have to change all my marketing materials and go through a painful notification process. I have never heard of a hosting company robbing paying customers of their email addresses. Notice how we can still email people at aol and yahoo years later. Ridiculous. I am starting a concerted effort amongst other attorneys. Please search for my post on LinkedIn: Have any attorneys using @lawyer.com email addresses received deactivation notices through Mail.com?

The free is only good for a few emails. If emails pile up you can’t access them anymore, nor delete them

After a couple thousand emails I was not able to access my emails. I forgot about it and had some important emails sent there as confirmation and I’m not able to access or delete old emails. I keep getting an error message. I’ve been trying to get into my email for years and now I have thousands. They have no contact info, an important ticket was sent there because unfortunately I signed up my PayPal with an account here, so when looking for my tickets, I can’t access them.

Suddenly pulled the plug on me without warning, lost all

Been there for seven months. Made a mailing of about 75 addresses to announce a concert I'm giving, and poof, they pull the plug on my account for "irregular activity". Lost all my contacts and emails of last seven monts without warning, consumer support totally unresponsive. What a scam!

I have used Mail.com for 20 years..

I have used Mail.com for 20 years... I never EVER had any problems, up until now with the new update and interface. NOW it´s all of a sudden VERY slow and unresponsive and the commercials are more aggressive. BIG let down. IF IT AINT BROKE DONT TRY TO FIX IT!!!

New interface is a horrible downgrade of service.

I have used Mail.com for decades. I never EVER had any problems, up until now with the new update and interface. Current interface truncates preview of email, does not allow printing email (only prints sender info), no longer allows one to select multiple emails for deleting and requires one to delete each email individually. I can no longer recommend mail.com.

File a formal complaint

Anyone having problems with this company due to a suddenly locked email account (free or paid), billing issues, lack of response or any other issue that deprives you from using the service PLEASE file a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office. Trust Pilot is a wonderful service but for companies like this who refuse to respond a complaint here doesn't help solve the problem. Mail.com is owned by the same company who owns IONOS. Their corporate address is: 1&1 Mail & Media Inc.100 North 18th Street, Suite 400, Philadelphia, PA 19103 Please know that they are literally playing hardball with people over these email accounts. I do not believe there is any fraud or anything else that is causing them to close these accounts the way they're doing. There is some scheme on their end behind it. For the past year people have complained about these accounts suddenly locking and then unlocking. Now they're flat out blocking access which causes severe financial and other harm to individuals. There is no transparency and they refuse to tell you what triggered the lock. What they're doing is unethical and quite possibly illegal. I assure you they read these complaints here they just don't care enough about the people who use their horrible email service to respond. If you file a BBB and they refuse to unlock your email account follow up by filing a consumer complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office. You can easily google their website. If enough people put them on the radar to the people who can do something about this they will respond and an investigation will be opened to look into their practices. They can also be sued and forced to offer remedies to the people they are harming.
