**Unreliable system and a troubling lack of accountability** Our experience with Zocdoc as a small healthcare practice left us with serious concerns about both the platform and how the company treats paying providers when something goes wrong. A prospective patient booked less than four hours before an appointment despite our account being configured to require at least one business day’s notice. The Zocdoc Alerter failed to notify the appropriate therapist and later sent the alert to the wrong therapist. The appointment was missed, making our practice appear unreliable because Zocdoc’s system failed. After roughly two hours dealing with ineffective support, Zocdoc then accused our practice of violating its Community Standards. When we documented what had actually occurred, Zocdoc reversed the enforcement action—but called the reversal a “good-faith exception” while refusing to acknowledge that its original action had been wrong. The review system is another concern for smaller practices. We have 12 therapists, only two of whom were listed on Zocdoc, and we do not solicit reviews from therapy clients because we believe it is unethical to do so. One therapist received a single unexplained one-star rating, which became that provider’s entire Zocdoc rating. It provided no useful feedback or context, but carried potentially significant reputational consequences. Zocdoc may make more sense for large, high-volume practices where appointments and reviews accumulate rapidly. For a smaller, selective practice, we found the combination of unreliable systems, review-driven reputational risk, poor support, and—most importantly—a lack of accountability made the platform a liability rather than an asset. We closed our account.
