Excellent Two Years in a Row

We had ordered the T-Day box last year and loved it, so we thought we would try it again! We were not disappointed. One of the main reasons we ordered it is because of the menu options and the fact BA uses turkey from our favorite turkey farm. The meal is set up to be quick, easy and delicious - any meal prep that's easy for my mom is a win!

The turkey was not tender and was…

The turkey was not tender and was tasteless. Everything else was good, particularly the mashed potatoes.

The gravy was not good

The gravy was not good. I think if I didn't add the vinegar, it would have been fine. The vinegar made it really unappetizing. The turkey was a little dry, but maybe I over cooked it. We did not like the stuffing that I ordered extra either. It just tasted strange...too many flavors maybe? I think it would have been better with sausage instead of pancetta. The potatoes were good, the brussel sprouts were good, and the apple pie was good. I wish there was a way we could pick the things we like and order those only possibly?

I was so naive!!

I was so naive!!! I have been a part of BA for years! I do NOT KNOW WHAT I WAS THINKING!!! Of course, it was like all my other meals: I had to cook from scratch!!! (I was so mentally, physically, time-wise unprepared to do this, especially 'last minute'.) Had I realized it: 1) I would have had it arrive a day earlier vs the afternoon before T-day--I had invited some family members for T-day dinner for Wednesday nite (I did not know the breast needed to thaw and marinate, for one thing. Plus, cranberry recipe...) 2) I would have skipped the order I wanted to simplify and not have to cook/prep much. I will in the future, as I have done in times past, order from some place like Whole Foods for already prepped dishes. (I made the side dish mushroom quiche--which we all liked--for Wed nite as the main meal and supplemented it with other things I already had on hand and 'made do'.) As for the box meal and ingredients itself--when I made it after T-Day for a gathering: The box was missing the delicata squash--I went to several grocery stores to buy some; there was none to be had. (I still have the pkg condiments in my fridge.) As far as the turkey breast itself: the rub was not enough to give it any flavor, even marinated overnight. It needed help! The gravy was good--we all liked it. Mashed potatoes good. The cranberry sauce was okay. Brussel sprouts ok. Apple pie more complex than anticipated. (I should have been made ahead of time.) It was okay. I learned my lesson!! Naive me!! LOL. I doubt I will ever do a box like that again. Too many variables.
