What reviewers say

AI generated

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently struggle with unwanted subscription charges, tricky cancellation processes, and unexpected renewal fees that make managing accounts frustrating. People also share poor customer service experiences, mentioning that representatives are often unhelpful or completely impossible to reach when trying to resolve billing errors and missing book purchases. Though some users experienced great customer support and expressed long-term satisfaction with the audio book platform over many years of membership. These happy customers appreciated quick assistance from polite agents who successfully sorted out their account and payment issues on multiple occasions.

What people say

Returns for Premium + members only

Returns for Premium + members only I bought 2 different editions of the same book by mistake and found that I am unable to return the accidental purchase as I am not a Premium+ member Signed up for a free trial of that membership only to find that I can only return books that were "Purchased" using membership credits. So there is NO option to return a product you paid for.

Indian Givers

So, Audible ran a promotion between October 2025 and February 2026 offer a $15 credit for anyone who made three purchases using their monthly credits. Even though I was pruchasing at least one title monthly already you still needed to sign up to the promotion to be eligible. Anyway, I managed to complete my 3 purchases later January and received my $15 Credit. Just checked my balance and now it's not there. Raised a concern after going through numerous dead ends in their help pages and then Automated Chat. Eventuatually got through to a human who informed me the promotion credits were only available until March 2nd! So, give you a nice present, then steal it back when you aren't watching. No notice given, no warning signs on their main page. just take it away like a thief in the night. Thanks Audible! Definatelly looking at alternative providers if this is how they treat people.

Exploits user vulnerability

Exploits user vulnerability. I have been an audible listener since the beginning and this was a great app but now credits expire if you cancel your membership- i.e. like having a gift card that expires if you don't keep paying for it. The updates are terrible- you can't see your library without being pestered by ads for other books. Honestly, it's too bad but way better to go to the library and use Libby.

Unprofessional company - they kill bad book reviews

They don’t like Bad Reviews on books so they kill them, and they purposefully don’t provide any way to see your own reviews so you can’t see they have been killed. Unprofessional company. Ps The Ap and portal are terrible.

I’m extremely disappointed with Audible…

I’m extremely disappointed with Audible after my recent experience. For months I was unknowingly paying for two separate subscriptions — Audible UK and Audible US. As soon as I realized, I contacted customer service hoping for a reasonable solution. Unfortunately, the support I received was completely unhelpful. There was no option to merge the accounts, no way to transfer credits, and no possibility to move the books I had already paid for. Essentially, I was told nothing could be done, despite the fact that this is clearly a situation that many international users could run into. Considering how much I’ve paid into the service, this rigid and inflexible response is incredibly frustrating. It feels very customer-unfriendly and honestly makes the whole experience feel like a money trap. I regret signing up and expected much better from a company of this size. I hope Audible seriously improves its account management and customer support policies, because right now the experience is far from acceptable.

Serious question

Serious question: does Audible actively search for the most clueless, awful, rude, childish and incompetent jobseekers on earth to offer them a job as a customer service rep on the Audible online chat and phone support? I've had a technical issue for over a year with the Audible app. OVER A YEAR. I've never had one competent exchange with anyone in Audible in over 30 conversations, on chat and by phone, to diagnose it with the brainpower above a 3 year old, let alone get close to having a fix. How can Audible management knowingly inflict such people on us? How can these employees behave like this and not feel disgustingly ashamed at their behaviour? It just beggars belief.

Audible is a decent app and industry…

Audible is a decent app and industry standard but it annoys me that my book recommendations are so off. Every time I login, it’s telling me to listen to Harry Potter or some romantic novel which is not even remotely close to my book profile. Given the revenue you must be generating, the lack of attention to these matters can only lead me to believe that leadership is lazy and or incompetent. Leading me to search for a new listening service.

If you need help, forget it

I lost an 8-year library of over 100 books because my Audible app, downloaded from Google Play 8 years ago, did not sync to my Amazon account and Audible couldn't figure out why. I can provide evidence of 8 years of subscription payment history but Amazon says I'm not a subscriber. My listening experience great but their customer service is non-existent. If you have a problem just give up

They lure you in with a ''Free Trial''

I started a free trial period because it showed me I could listen the book I wanted to listen to for free, and wanted to give listening to Audio books a try. I set up my account and fill in the information needed. When I search for the book again I had wished to listen to, it showed me I had to pay €9 to be able to listen to it. Seems like false advertising to me.

I have used audible for years…

I have used audible for years, and only recently realized that books I purchased years ago are missing! I called to complain and they want evidence, only to learn the app is 3rd party and provides no usable information…you have to buy directly from website to verify old purchases. I lost 8 credits and a $7.99 purchase…credits are $13+ Loved the app until they couldn’t knowledge I didn’t start the series on book 10.

Signed up for the free trial

Signed up for the free trial with option to cancel before 30 days. I could not use the service as I had intended so I tried to cancel. Through their app, I was encouraged to pause rather than cancel. I elected that option. Now they charged me and told me that you can not pause during the free trial. The customer service reps attempted to sell me a different membership rather than refund the charge. They claimed that I could not have paused the service and were dishonest about what the app offers. DO NOT sign up with Audible. As others have stated, they have NO honest customer support.

☆☆☆☆

☆☆☆☆ - zero stars!!!! I’ve been paying a monthly Audible fee without realizing it. I assumed all subscriptions would appear in my Apple iPhone subscriptions, like every other app. Audible did not. Amazon clearly found a loophole where this subscription sits outside Apple’s normal visibility. That’s misleading at best. This isn’t about the product. It’s about transparency and trust. I would never have knowingly kept this subscription. Very disappointed

The Company Does a Poor Job of Keeping track of your Purchases

I have been a member of audible for many years. Due to the fact I don't watch television I have used audible books instead while I work around the house, travel, and exercise. Over they years I have lost so many books I've purchased it isn't funny. I have probably purchased over 1000 books over the many years I've been with them. I'm at the point that I realize they no longer deserve my patronage.

Oy, where do I start?

1) I found it impossible to find interesting titles--the site is not geared to connect a person with titles he/she might like. 2) It is expensive. You not only pay a monthly fee, but then you pay per title. There is some complex system of earning credits, but who wants to take time to figure that out. 3) The customer service chat says it's a person but sounds like an AI bot. It's my view that AI should disclose itself so a customer knows what they are interacting with. Use the library or buy books--Thrift Books and Half Price Books are terrific for second hand books, and so far they aren't owned by Amazon. Great services and far cheaper than Audible.
