What people say

Pleasantly impressed

I have to say I was skeptical in the beginning. Last fall I made arrangements to see a car at a time and distance that was not appealing. I went and waited an hour, the 'seller' was no show. I called A/T and they were unable to contact the seller. So it was a waste of time. Happily, this time as a seller, the experience was pleasant and comforting. I feel the verification procedures and all the other structure is set up well and very secure. I had 30 spammers and A/T protected me well as did the personnel I spoke to on the phone. I thought the sales network was very good as well. I highly recommend Autotrader for anyone selling or buying a car!

I had my car listed for 5 months before…

I had my car listed for 5 months before selling, and although the actual Buyer's experience was great, every other inquiry was a scammer. There were LOTs of them, and this caused me to sour my attitude towards everyone that was contacting me. I had to apologize to the actual Buyer because I presumed he was also a scammer at the beginning. In fact, I was dealing with a scammer the same day the Buyer contacted me, so I thought it was the same scammer.

I appreciate Auto Trader helping me…

I appreciate Auto Trader helping me sell my car. Auto Trader does a great job ensuring that the buyer and seller I identities are verified and that the sellers vehicle’s title is clean.. The customer service is amazing. Someone answers the phone quickly and spends whatever time is necessary to ensure the customer has all the information he or she needs.

Beyond useless, a waste of time and money

It has been years since I used AutoTrader, it used to be a great way to sell a car. It is now beyond useless, I have received nothing but dozens of fraudulent messages since my ad went up, all of them seeking to take me out of channel via text or external email. or trying to lead me to fraudulent sites that mimic CarFax. The incessant texts and emails, telling me I have a message from "a shopper who's interested in your vehicle" is an unwelcome distraction and waste of my time. A competent programmer could create an AI filter in a matter of hours to remove these fraudulent messages, AutoTrader is either incompetent, or doesn't care. I'll sell my vehicle on FaceBook MarketPlace and warn my friends to not bother with AutoTrader.

100% waste of time.

Posted my wife's car for sale on Autotrader. After 6 months, I received a total of ZERO contacts from actual buyers. Oddly, I was contacted several times by scammers who all used the same old pitch -- they wanted to buy the car but they were out of state so could they send me a check that included money for shipping and then I just needed to give cash to the shipper...blah blah blah. I eventually just sold the car to a dealer. Completely wasted my time and money with Autotrader.

Complete Ripoff!!!

I paid $29 for an ad, and I got lots of responses, but they were ALL from SCAMMERS! None of the responses were from local people who wanted to buy a car, they were all people who wanted me to text, and not call them. This company needs to take better precautions to guard against scammers. It was a complete waste of my time and money to sign up for this service and I am going to close my account so that I stop getting annoying emails!

Scammy website run by scammers and…

Scammy website run by scammers and infected with scammers. Tried to place and ad to sell my vehicle and got quick results, only thing was it was trolls and swindlers. Used the provided chat function but still not able to filter the grifters from anyone serious. Wait, sorry I never received a serious inquiry.Auto Trader never made any attempt to help sellers, I believe they are likely in cahoots with the fraudsters. One sly scam was asking for a specific vehicle information specs from a website i could not find. I could not find it because my ISP had blocked the site due to fraud. Tried to get help from customer service, but I guess they were to busy and were not contactable, Took the ad down the same day after 13 fraudulent contacts. Asked for my money back plus 1 day of lost time billed at $100 per day. They are not based in the US and use their ill-proficiency in English as cover. They are not for independent sellers and only seem to cater to dealers... so stay away
