H-E-B Used SAPD To Violate, Disable Senior Citizen ADA Civil Rights
San Antonio, TX -- May 19, 2026 -- Minister Tyrone Merritt Sr., D.Div., a disabled senior citizen a resident of San Antonio Texas has filed a federal lawsuit accusing H‑E‑B Grocery Company, LP and their store manager Jake De La Cruz, of violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and discriminatory treatment at the H‑E‑B located at 999 East Basse Rd., Suite 150, San Antonio, TX 78209,
The suit claims that Merritt, who was shot in the head over 35 years ago, was using a doctor‑prescribed assistive device for memory, as he has done ever since the incident in 1991. While shopping, he was approached by H-E-B store manager Jake De La Cruz, who questioned him about his body-worn camera. Despite Merritt repeatedly explaining on video that he had been shot and was wearing a medically prescribed ADA device, De La Cruz allegedly refused to provide reasonable accommodation as required by law, denied him access, and called the police with a false report that Merritt was "recording and making customers uncomfortable." The San Antonio Police Department CAD Report (SAPD‑2025‑1672793) confirms the manager's statement and shows that multiple police units were dispatched, despite no criminal conduct or disturbance by Merritt. "This wasn't just a misunderstanding -- it was discrimination," said Merritt. "Disabled people deserve dignity, not humiliation. I filed this lawsuit to protect my rights and the rights of every disabled Texan who shops at H‑E‑B." The U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division has also logged Merritt's complaint under File No. 670502‑FZC, confirming that the matter raises federal disability‑rights concerns. I have visited this store countless times. I wanted to tip my hat on all of the fantastic employees at the deli and bakery. Numerous times I co.e out of work after 10 or 12 hour shift. I do t have ti.e to shower to go to HEB when going home. Although, I do try to make myself presentable. Every time they great me with a smile, offer their help, they stop what they are doing. Sometimes another happens to pass by and offers assistance. They have never made me disgrace, nor do they diminish me, they always treat me with respect and friendliness and willingness to help.
Now, this is genuine HEB Customer Servi and this is why HEB is the best place and sells the best quality products and clean stores.
Thank you, Elaina
My friends and I were at an HEB late at night in our socks after having been dancing all night in our shoes. We got a lot of food and were getting our last items when a worker stops us and kicks us out for not having shoes because “it’s a Texas law that you can’t shop without shoes or a shirt”. So on the way of getting kicked out I looked up this “law”… it doesn’t exist.

I have to admit, I wasn't thrilled about HEB moving in and basically replacing the stores I knew. But, I had to order a cake for my son's birthday the day before I needed it,they were the only ones willing to take the order, and they … More

I had a grocery store cart accident at H-E-B in Melissa Texas on 11/13/2025! It was assigned H-E-B Case # 09828841, I was in the McKinney Medical Center for 18 days! I had to have a complete left hip replacement and went through rehab at the hospital! On the last day of rehab, I was going through my last rehab session! All of a sudden, I had a heart attack getting ready for a workout on a bicycle simulator! I was very lucky the heart attack occurred in the hospital! I wouldn't be here today! I was rushed immediately to intensive care unit! I had two more heart attacks! They put me on an external pacemaker machine! The next day, they implanted a Pacemaker which I still have today! My life has changed dramatically and I need further attention and support to get my life going in a limited environment unfamiliar to me! I will need some type of battery operated vehicle, a walking cane, and a walker! Even with those, I will be very limited in my activities! I will need further medical attention!
H-E-B has refused to accept any responsibility for my accident and permanent injuries! Attached are 2 pictures, both showing the location of my accident before and after! You will see they accepted the mistake by lining the curb with a display racks to curtail any other similar customer accidents!
They offered me $750 (LOL) as a show of good faith! I refused it as an insult since my medical costs were in the tens of thousands of dollars!
Eventually, they offered $10,000 to me, but gave Aetna Insurance half of it! I needed all $10,000 plus much more! I was so sick, I couldn't handle all the pressure! I gave up since I had no help! To keep me going past 86 years old, I will need medical aids to help me get around and much more medical attention! They are much more interested in money than their faithful customers! Please help me get the alarm out and hopefully getting enough money to take care of myself in my short life! Thanks!

I paid $3.98 for a Thai Salad kit. There was no condiments packet, just chopped, inedible cabbage with fruit flies.
What a ripoff!
I will never buy HEB salad kits again.

HEB Pharmacy on San Felipe and Fountainview is by far, the best pharmacy I've ever used - and I'm 65! They are professional, have great customer service, precise, friendly and always have time for questions and research. They always apologize for a wait if there is one and go the extra mile. I've always used either Walgreens or CVS and have never, ever, had the same service. They have called me ahead of time knowing there might be something I should be aware of before a weekend so I could call my doctor's office. That's a great pharmacy. Nothing let me to write this review. I'm just letting others know that professionalism, reliability on your pharmacist and their staff also comes from local companies who care. Thank you.
What’s going on H‑E‑B why yello potato it’s so sweet or corn tortilla ?
Do you guys add in sugar on everything I won’t even say about your cakes every time I ate I hade so bad stomach !!!!!!
I’m gonna back to Walmart for sure 😡😡😡😡
I went to the Plano location. Since we just relocated from the Midwest, I asked if I could sign up for a card to get the discounts. The cashier stated we would have to download the app and it would take a long time to do. I asked if he could apply any of the coupons as most stores do. He stated I would need the app and hurried us out. I also feel the store was cluttered so I won’t be shopping at any H-E-B. Sticking to market street, Whole Foods, sprouts for a more uplifting environment
I ordered curbside pickup and all the meat items was like a day or two from expiring when I got the meat out and defrost it it smelled soooo bad it was baby back ribs then the pork chops I was going to cook the next day it was outdated why do they do that. Knowing you not going to cook all the food so why get out of date or close to the date expiring HEB come on now. You use to be the go to store now you have went down. hEB in Harker Heights tx. Sad
I love HEB! Between their competitive prices and amazing customer service, I don't trust any other grocery store to meet my needs the way HEB does.. I'm loyal customer and always will be.
Disorganized store and expired products on shelves
I usually like this chain, but this specific loaction has gone downhill.
The aisles were packed with unboxed stock, making it impossible to navigate with a shopping cart. To make things worse, I bought some milk and bread only to realize when I got home that they were already expired. The checkout lines were understaffed and took forever. Very disappointed with the quality control here.
HEB in my area is now utilizing Door Dash for delivery. No notice to customers. The drivers have to shop for groceries and then deliver the groceries. . HEB is still charging the marked up online pricess yet no HEB employee is involved with the delivery order. If anything the difference between the in store prices and online marked up prices should go to the drivers not HEB profit.
I rented a carpet shampooer from heb on bulverde rd and 1604 in san antonio tx . I cleaned it and i mean cleaned it before taking it back. The lady checking it back in looks at it and says ,sooo its dirty, I can't give you your deposit back. First off its been rainy, if it was dirty at all it may have been from pulling it through the parking lot. It may not have been perfect but it was clean. They don't allow you to use a water hose on it so i cleaned it with a rag. It was clean. I always rent from here and never had an issue, till now. I won't be renting again.
Clarence, in the pharmacy of the H-E-B in Weatherford, Texas is extremely kind, thorough, and efficient. He solve the problem for my elderly mother within minutes, which relieved her stress and mine also as I am not close by to her. He was patient and came to a resolution quickly. H-E-B has always been my favorite grocery store but now I think they’re also my favorite Pharmacy.
I do not feel safe shopping at this store anymore no matter the location. I am older and often use a cart from the parking lot to walk in with some support and of course walk back out. I sometime go in to look for something specific and do not impulse buy in this economy. I just rolled back out, nothing in cart over the years and was fine, now if you try to go out with the cart empty it stops dead cold in the doorway, causing injury to legs that then slam into the stopped basket. The cashiers and management are rude and avoid being approached about it and are very unconcerned if you are hurt, only stating you can fill out paperwork if you have a problem with your visit. You are judged as being guilty the minute that basket stops in the doorway and no one comes to help you move it even if you are in pain. I do not think this is a reasonable security measure. If HEB is so pissed about theft, then put a human at the door like Wal-mart and show some compassion and respect.
HEB is deceptive. When shopping online, they literally are charging you a different price per item than if you shop in-store. If you want delivery, they then want a delivery fee. On top of that, you are expected to tip the driver as they are a third party. You would not know they are charging more per item unless you are really savvy and just know. You will not know about all the other fees until you get to your shopping cart. I have spent between $12,000 and $15,000 per year at HEB for around 15 years. Now I feel like they are ripping me off.
Do yourself a favor...shop at Sprouts and Walmart. These price gougers are ridculous. They now have Favor, people off the streets shopping your products. They have gone to partime only for hire's so they don't have to pay benefits which people need to live. They make millions and millions and cut corners to make even more . The owner's are billionaires and take in more of your money...they have the same items on sale every week no diversity pork, a lame fruit, steriod inhanced chicken and brown fiflty gulf shrimp....No beef , good seafood, it's all the cheaper items to get you to shop....delivery is outragoeus. Shop Wal-mart cheaper , way more products, hassle free...you place an order with HEB now you cannot add items...the items they do pick out are the just to out of date items to send you so they don't throw it out..it's called "Shrink" This is why HEB now is a 2.1 rating...do yourself a favor.....don't shop HEB ...
