Like others have described in their review...had more than enough credits but couldn't book a movie. Had long wait times to reach customer service, when I did, they didn't help. Couldn't even tell me if my account was active. Said I would be refunded but I don't think I ever was.
I tried using my Movie Pass program today, but my card was declined. Contacted customer service through the app, entered the info they requested, then waited... and waited... and waited. Finally gave up, since the film had already started. Even hours later, never received a response. Wrote an e-mail to support and all I've received is a message saying there is a long wait for help and to not send further e-mails, since that would just send me to the end of the queue. There doesn't seem to be a phone number you can call. I would avoid using this program until they get their act together. I'm already thinking of cancelling and trying to get some sort of refund through my credit card company.
I have never been this disappointed over a app. Going to movies isa exciting event that families work forward to, thus if such a plan randomly fails people will definitely not be happy. This was the case for us the card would simply decline no matter what we did. Do not buy as this app will simply leave the entire family disappointed and quite disgruntled.
Card declines and credits are gone. Didn't get to see the movie. No customer service whatsoever. Have been waiting 5 days for a response, still NOTHING. Loved it at first - maybe they are out of business and didn't tell anyone?
They finally responded. They restored the credits and gave me extra for the inconvenience.
Card declines when I have 100+ credits in my account. No customer service whatsoever. Have been waiting three days for a response. Just buy your tickets from the movie theater. Not worth it.
Customer service is pretty much nonexistent so when you have a problem it’s typically not corrected. Yesterday I selected a ticket on the app but funds were never transferred to the card to pay. I waited hours for customer service but never got a response. It’s now over 24 hours later and they still haven’t responded. Previously, I frequently had problems seeing a movie 2 days in a row, the app would say that I already saw a movie today. Occasionally, when they later contacted me, they gave me additional credits but that is meaningless when I can’t use them and they don’t carry over. I think this is just a scam! If you are considering this, please know that you have to be at the theater to select and pay for a movie. I typically have to drive 25+ miles to the theater (50+ miles round trip) only to find that the app of payment card don’t work. I’ve asked for a refund but don’t get a response. MoviePass is a great idea that is wonderful when/if it works, but don’t count on it!
Card declined on the first time I tried using it. Had 68 credits and the movie would have been 20 credits. The app showed that I had checked in and had a reservation for the ticket. Nope, not able to use it. So I've paid this company money for 0 movie use. And I ditto the horrible customer service response, which is almost nonexistent. Seems like they are taking money with no usage ability.
Only worked 1 out of 3 times, had to be within a certain distance of the theatre to even use it which usually meant that you were stuck in the front row. Save your money, not nearly as good as it use to be.
I’m so disappointed. I was so excited when I came out because, the original MOVIEPASS from years ago worked great for me. But, I paid $40 into 2.0 and it never worked for me. It was a waste of money. This really seems like a scam. And it takes customer service weeks to reply. The last time I tried to use it at the theater, it didn’t work. I reached out to customer service with no response. They sent me an email like 2 weeks later asking if I still needed assistance…
Trash Business Model and Trash Service. Stay Away.
I used this over 5 years ago when it first came out for about 2 years and it saved me a lot on movie tickets. But not without frustrations. The issue was their app occasionally froze and not letting me load the credit card making me miss movies and have to come back and try again on different days. It went out of business because its business model made no sense. They were supposed to make money off selling your data to movie and theater companies, but never found a way to get any useful and sellable analytics out of it. 5 years later it came back, so I tried it again and got early access as a return customer. This time their app is way more reliable, but their credit card is not. There is no one to call when you have issues, instead you have to message support through their app. I spent an hour chatting with an agent and missed three movie showings trying to get their card to work but it just kept declining it. Fortunately, it worked for about two months so I was able to see 8 movie showings with my wife for $40 total instead of $100+, but I canceled it after this terrible experience. Their business model does not seem sustainable because once again they are relying on data collection to make money, as well as hoping that most people with a subscription will see less than one movie a month, but who is going to buy the data, and how many people with monthly movie subscriptions will on average see less than one movie a month? Moreover, their service system is terrible and error-prone. You can’t buy tickets in advance, you have to open an app when within a few feet of the movie theater (and hope the app doesn’t have issues at that time and place), then it temporarily loads the credit card with the correct amount (so now you hope and pray the app loaded the card for the correct amount and that Mastercard doesn’t screw something up). It’s an overly complicated system with too many points of failure. It should let you buy tickets online in advance, or partner with big movie chains to give you movie ticket vouchers. Relying on an app that must be accessed only when at the theater and a credit card that must be used within a 30-minute time frame is just stupid. Their CEO is a diversity hire moron who has no clue how to run an effective business, but please go buy his book that he promoted to all MoviePass customers talking about how white and Asian entrepreneurs with successful tech businesses were keeping him down as a black entrepreneur. Major theater chains like AMC and Regel now have subscription models and although they cost twice as much as MoviePass, they are nearly 100% reliable and more importantly, actually generate revenue for their companies and are a successful business model. My advice to anyone who wants a movie subscription, stick to the ones offered by your local movie theaters and pay a little more to avoid the frustration. MoviePass will be bankrupt soon anyways and the more people who sign up to use their “disservice”, the quicker they will go out of business, which is the opposite of how any real business works.
This card will never work. Whenever I made a booking and went to the theater, this card wont work. This card is just a piece of junk. I paid with my own money for 4 times. Its just a shame why Mastercard is associated with this junk company.
Got it this second go around. Took a while to get the card in the mail. Card arrived and activated but never worked at the theater.I used the app to cancel my subscription so I wouldn’t get reoccurring charges and now I have a months worth of credits that I can’t use…. App is super buggy and I haven’t heard back from customer support in MONTHS. Do not get their service, it’s definitely a scam and not worth it.
What a waste of my money. I tried using my credits but kept getting an error pop up. When I tried to get a hold of customer service, it was only automated bot which did not address my issue. It was very frustrating because I was already at the theater and no one was able to help.
HORRIBLE!! I would give zero stars if I could! I tried to cancel my subscription MONTHS ago because they were charging me and not giving me any credits to even use the card. Now I have tried to cancel MULTIPLE times, emailed hundreds of times and zero responses. Guess I have to call to dispute this because this is ridiculous! They are still charging me to this day!!!
I was super excited for movie pass to come back. I signed up but never download the app or activated my card. I’ve been charged twice for a service that I haven’t used. I’ve reached out to the support team and haven’t heard back from them in weeks. I wrote to them to cancel my service but they never responded back. This is fraud!!!! They falsified their agreement. They won’t charge the customer until we activate it. Will I didn’t and I’ve been charged twice. I want my money back!!!!
I signed up for the movie pass with my credit card and received my pass. After reading all these horrible reports, I did not activate my card. They automatically activated my card without my permission and started charging it. I contacted them many times, but you can not reach any at customer service; they don't have any people to respond to your cancellation emails. Totally a scam; the New York DA office must take action to close these scammers and the con artists.
Nonexistent customer service and phone numbers that don’t work. Tried to cancel and customer service never called back. Only able to send emails with only a reply that they would get back with me and they never did. Ended up calling Moviepass Mast Card and canceled the card and disputed charges on my credit card.
