What people say

3.5 might be more like it

3.5 might be more like it. The meals are overall a bit worse than Hello Fresh, but they properly package their boxes, unlike HF. To clarify they do have some good options but they haven’t been available too often, with this service I usually struggle to find more than one meal a week I have any level of “excitement” about. I’m still fairly new, but so far the limited time meals they do have either been, super health focused, or actually meals I want to try, but they were sold out suuuper fast. I’ll probably look into another meal kit service soon, haven’t decided. Their microwave meals were horrible, the definitely stay away from those. Also I live in an apartment, and once the driver left the package OUTSIDE the apartment on the far side of the building..

"Customer Service" is a joke

I've been getting meals from Blue Apron for just about a year and if this was a review just about the food quality, it would get 5 stars. Unfortunately, their CS is so awful that I cannot rate it above 1 star. Starting last month, I started getting emails about not being able to process my payment(s). Pretty weird, because I've been using the same card (Mastercard) since I signed up, and there are no credit issues with it. Nevertheless, I started using another (Mastercard) card, and that, too, was rejected. Here's the kicker. I don't get these "payment rejected" emails until 11:50pm at night on Monday nights--and the cutoff to make any changes--including payment changes--is 12midnight. (I didn't find that out until I started dissecting their website to find that information). So, what they were doing was sending me emails at 11:50pm at night and giving me 10 minutes to do something about it. It's safe to say that most people are sleeping at 11:50pm at night (including myself). But even after changing my card information, the payments were still getting rejected, and I was just getting no information from them at all. I finally wrote an email to their "customer service" email address, detailing all this information, expecting I would get at least an apology, an explanation, some assistance...NOPE! This was their reply, obviously it was an auto-reply: "We currently only accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Apple Pay" Uh...it WAS a MasterCard, had anybody given 2 seconds to look it up. I gave that information in my reply. Never heard back. I wrote on Blue Apron's Facebook page. It was not replied to. Then, they had the gall to send me a follow up email a week later about "How would you rate our customer service?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Are there any human beings on their end or it it 100% A.I.? Needless to say, I cancelled any future orders and will never use them again. I'll stick with Hello Fresh and Home Chef, both of whom actually....get this...reply to their customers in case there are any issues. I would say "get a clue, Blue Apron", but at this point I just hope they go bankrupt.

PAY ATTENTION WHEN YOU CANCEL YOUR…

PAY ATTENTION WHEN YOU CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION!! There's more than one item you have to cancel! I canceled my subscription in December. When checking my bank account week, I noticed I was still being charged by Blue Apron. I then realized they have set up their system where customers are signing up for 2 services and that just because you cancel your subscription doesn't mean you canceled your entire account. I canceled my subscription at the end of Dec. I was charged 9.99 on Dec 29, Jan, Feb, and March. They have purposefully set up their system in this way. It's shady and deceptive. If a customer cancels their account, why in the hell would they still want to pay them $9.99 for some BS???? Per the agent, the policy says they can only credit 2 of the charges. They 100% know what they're doing by having their system set up this way. How much do they make a month from customers like me that didn't realize the ENTIRE account was not canceled???? On a side note, we canceled because the menu options weren't great or changed out enough. The couple of recipes we liked were frequently unavailable/out-of-stock.

Heat and eat meals :(

I purchased 5 of the heat and eat meals from Blue Apron. The chicken tortellini Alfredo was horrible. The chicken was old, hardly any chicken in it to begin with. No Alfredo sauce in it! And tortellini were old and hard. I also Got and India rice and chicken dish. ONLY 5 tiny pieces of Chicken! Mostly rice, and again, only a dab of sauce! This is over priced, cheap sh*t

order changes

The menu was very good and we had a good experience with them until recently when they made a change to their website where you cannot make any changes to the preselected menu items. It never used to be the case before. For the life of me I don't know why they did that so I cancelled my subscription.

Don’t bother

I used to love Blue Apron. Then they changed their entire model and went way downhill. OG Blue Apron had the occasional delivery issue or error in my box. Their customer service was very fast, and they aggressively corrected issues. With the model change, paid subscriptions were no longer required and the number of offered recipes increased significantly. Sounds great on the surface, but the reality wasn’t good. As a subscription holder, it was incredibly frustrating that many of the recipes I wanted to try sold out almost immediately. There was a huge increase in missing and damaged ingredients. The quality of some of the ingredients noticeably declined- their steaks, for instance, used to turn out great, but the last few times, even though they were cooked to a perfect medium rare and were the same cut I always got, they were so tough we couldn’t even eat them. Customer service switched to a text model, which sounds great, except they sometimes didn’t reply to your texts for three days at time, leaving you to wonder if they even received it, and they buried the other contact methods, making it harder to contact the company via other avenues. I had one box show up a day late- they tried to tell me they packed their boxes in a way that they could hold up for the extra day. I live in Arizona. Nothing holds up to this heat for an extra day. I temped the ice packs themselves when the box finally arrived, and even they were out of food safe temperature. They did credit me after I sent them the photos of the temps, but their argument was ridiculous to begin with. I finally got sick of them and cancelled. Meal kit deliveries are a dime a dozen these days. There’s nothing special about Blue Apron. Take your business elsewhere.

2 weeks in a row, never received any meals

I placed two separate orders for meals from Blue Apron. The first week I did not receive any meals. I ordered a second week of meals and did not receive these meals either. Customer service was slow and I don’t feel I was very helpful or interested in making it right—if you’re lucky enough to get a response. The second week I received no response from customer service. I wanted to try the new fresh meal options and meal kits in place of meal planning. Now I have last minute rush to a grocery store and rushed weekday meal planning. I would have saved money by planning better in advance on my own. I never had this issue with other meal delivery services.

Issues with blue apron orders

In the past ordered from HelloFresh or home chef decided to try blue Apron for the first time first order went well second and third orders missing an entrée no notification of missing entrée texted them second order. I’m done told them just to refund the money rather than credit. The account going back to what I know is tried and the

Be very careful with this company

Be very careful with this company. my first order was not a subscription mainly because I wanted to try the product. Before I got to go back and place another order I received a charge on my card for a subscription plan. I contacted customer service and they did absolutely nothing to help with this issues so I cancelled my account. I do not recommend this company to anyone

I didn’t want to leave 1 star

I didn’t want to leave 1 star. Horrible taste. The luncheon does contain additives and preservatives. Understood it frozen but it shouldn’t. The chicken was brown meat and uncooked, chunks of fat. The scrambled egg treat with bits of Canadian bacon. No taste, more like artificial. Ugh 😩

Nothing but trouble!

I signed up for another opportunity to show me that Blue Apron had made the improvements after a couple of years before I was a customer Well, they’re worse now than before! After several delayed shipments and meal shortages due to out of stock ingredients, it was one issue after another This last issue was the final call! I was notified of my shipment was on its way and I also received notice that my meals were missing due to some ingredients shortages again My shipment arrived and as I opened the box, there were NO meals in it, just the two ice bags and a sheet of cardboard Yes, they actually shipped me a box of nothing and get this, they changed my card for the order I attempted to call several times but was told to leave a message and customer service would get back to me within 48 hours I tried to text and email but got the same message, that I would be contacted within 48 hours I never heard from anyone! What a joke! Do NOT sign up for these meals as there are many others to order from but watch out, Blue Apron also owns several other meal kit companies under their corporate name Do your research!

Gone downhill significantly

I've been using blue apron on and off for years, the most recent was four about a year straight. It was fine but I noticed the meat amount in much smaller then previously and the produce quality went down. The most recent update about a month ago ruined blue apron. The food is just okay and not worth the price. Every shipment there's been an issue. Ingredients missing, not the correct meals, food warm, substitutes without any directions, etc. I contacted support over green beans that were already decaying and didnt receive support even after 2 weeks. I would stay away unless you want to get poor produce, the wrong ingredients and still be hungry after the meal while paying a good amount for said food.

Frustrating experience

Frustrating experience. Very difficult to select meals through the app. Support takes 1+ week to respond. Recipe cards usually missing, which would be tolerable if the app functioned correctly. Recent updates pushed me to cancel. I was loving it before the last few weeks. Do not recommend.

Begging for a Compromise, but Struggling

Here is my honest feedback of Blue Apron. BEST tasting food of any of my prior meal delivery services. However, it was only a honeymoon of 1-2 boxes. The past 3 boxes have been delivered 4 days LATE, the ice was completely melted, and the meals were WARM. I’m begging Blue Apron give me a compromise, we are failing to connect! I want to remain a customer, but I’m on my 3rd week without meals.

SUBSCRIBERS BEWARE!

Honestly, the meals are amazing. I have only had ONE issue that I can remember, and it was resolved with relative ease. This is a lot more than I can say for any other meal kit I have tried. I genuinely think that's a big deal, and save for the price, I have loved Blue Apron so far. They have pretty nice introductory offers if you just want to try it out. I even like that they're making changes to recipe timings so it shows the difference between prep time and actual cook time. This is why I wish I were here writing a good review - my experience has been good so far... Until 8/14/25. After using BA for several months, I got a piece of mail from Blue Apron yesterday. The front says "You asked. We listened." (Clearly not…) It goes on to say that I have received a "free gift" that is three months of something called Blue Apron +. In really small text it says that this is a subscription service and I'm receiving a free trial, after which I will be charged $9.99 a month. First of all, the ONLY way to see the date that the free trial ends is to keep the letter. If I go to my account on the website and look under "Blue Apron +," it just says I'm a member since August 2025. No start date, no mention of the end date of the free trial. If you cancel the subscription, you lose the benefits immediately, not at the end of your trial. So if you don't keep the letter, you either have to cancel right away or take a gamble about when to cancel if you don't want to be charged extra. Based on the date in the letter, either the free trial is NOT actually 3 months/90 days (I have seen both ways of writing it used), OR I was signed up for the trial for 9 days before I was informed about it. The letter says the trial ends November 3. 90 days before that is August 5. Based on the fact that I was charged shipping on 8/9 for my 8/13 box, I believe that the free trial is clearly not 3 full months or 90 full days. Which is annoying and means they've lied, but it's a lot better than being signed up for something without your consent or knowledge for more than a week before being notified, which is what I thought had originally happened. There are a LOT of shady business practices out there, but NEVER in my life have I been signed up for a "free trial" that will cost me money after the trial ends without my consent or even notifying me beforehand!! And I just found out that HelloFresh was sued for doing the same thing. Yikes! The letter itself is easy to miss, saying it contains a "free gift" (a lot of the time, when I get a "free gift" from a meal kit company, it's a coupon for something that I'm not interested in and is still expensive with the discount, and a LOT of people ignore snail mail or do not even get it), but luckily they DID send an email the same day - though it is also easy to miss. It should really have a subject line indicating changes have been made to your account, but it's clear they WANTED to be deceptive. I think they knew exactly what they were doing and this is absolutely on purpose. They are betting that people will miss the letter or not pay attention and then suddenly start getting charged extra for the same expensive meals in a few months. This is not a benefit to the customer, this is a way to line their pockets even further. It's absolutely disgusting. Besides: They seem to be doing all these updates, which is nice. But the only actual benefit that I can see from this subscription is free shipping on all orders. I am not interested in some cooking show subscription (I'm sure some people will be, that's cool, just saying it isn't useful to me), and the other benefit is a vague "exclusive members only perks" with no further clarification to it, and no "exclusive perks" on the website that I've seen. Furthermore, now that they've "improved" the app, google login does not work anymore. I've tried on multiple devices. AND they're sending me emails w/ broken links. I don't see how any of this is an improvement. It's like they hired a consultant to revamp their business plan and were told that alienating and lying to their customers was the best way to earn more money, and that the LOOK of an app is more important than functionality. Which may work in the short run, but that's absolutely how you lose customers. I was already trying to figure out switching to a different meal kit because these are just so expensive (at the price for 3 meals for 2 people per week, I could literally eat out instead and not pay much more for less work), but this absurdly anti-consumer practice has solidified it. I'll take the free shipping while I figure things out, but I'm done with Blue Apron. Even if you don't feel the same, I would definitely make sure you at least check your account and determine whether or not you actually want Blue Apron + before you start paying for it.

The meals never showed up

The meals never showed up, but I was charged. It was very hard to get a refund. The same thing happened the following week. I tried to cancel on line, but it wouldn’t let cancel my subscription, stated “I couldn’t cancel because I had a delivery in progress “, nothing ever showed up. They don’t answer my last text, don’t answer email. Now I’ve been waiting forever on the phone. They have totally ripped me off, and I can’t seem to get my money back or cancel the subscription.

From Box to Dumpster...

I have been getting these deliveries weekly since January 2025 and for a long time they were great. No issues, great recipes, good ingredients, etc. Recently in the last two months, I have had recurring problems. I know that it's summer but it is literally Blue Apron's business to deliver temperature controlled food. Three separate times now, I have unpacked a box only to throw the entire contents of the package directly into the garbage. I'm talking warm meats, melted cheese, spoiled cream, wilted vegetables. Nothing was salvageable. Buyer beware, I have cancelled my account and will not be returning. The amount of food wasted because of late deliveries, poor packaging, etc. is inexcusable.
