What people say

Really easy to program the key fob..

Bought the kit with a key fob, picture cut key and the programming box for my Mom's car. It was easy to find what I needed on the website, place my order and upload pictures of the key that I needed cut. Everything shipped in a timely manner and was packaged good. Once I received everything it was simple and straight forward to get the key programmed and everything working. I did have to do the steps 3 times to get the key to program, but that was more my fault than the companies. After the second attempt, I realized that I needed to go through each step from beginning to end just reading what I needed to do before actually doing it, and once I did that everything went just fine. So hopefully that tip can help someone else. I highly recommend Tom's Key Company. I was very impressed with the photo cut key, it worked great. Definitely cheaper than the dealerships where I live wanted just for the key fob. And we don't have locksmiths in the area so it was definitely less hassle and money to go this route to get another key fob and key.

They lied on thier response to my complaint.

I've recieved their response to my complaint which includes falsehoods and misleading statements. Here is their claim regarding making purchases not knowing you'll need one working key to be successful. The response: After reviewing your order, we do want to clarify that the requirement for at least one existing working key is included in the product description and programming requirements for this particular DIY Solution. However, we understand that this may not have been prominent enough during the purchasing process, and we appreciate your feedback regarding how this information is presented. This is absolutly FALSE as I tried 2 times in an attempted repurchase and "not prominent" should read "none existence". Additionally, as I said before, 2nd day air should not be offered on items that cannot be shipped till a 3rd party can make key copies. Absolute waste of money. Charging $25 per key copy is outragous considering they probably pay around $3 due to the volumne they buy. I stand by my original review and object to their continued misrepresentation of their product and service. Do not do business with Tom's Keys.

Hello Dave, We’re sorry that this experience left you feeling this way, and we sincerely apologize for the frustration and inconvenience caused throughout the process. We never intended to mislead you, and we understand and respect your perspective regarding the product information, shipping expectations, and overall experience. We also appreciate you taking the time to share detailed feedback about where you felt the process and communication fell short. At this stage, we respect your position and understand your disappointment. Feedback like yours is taken seriously and is valuable in helping us evaluate how we present product requirements, optional services, shipping expectations, and overall customer communication. Again, we sincerely apologize that your experience with us did not meet expectations.

Quick service and simple setup

I have a 2009 Honda Fit. I ordered a key and a programmer from Tom's, and it took about a week to come in. Initially had some issues getting the buttons to function. I chose to go ahead and put it into programming mode and pair it to the car first. Once I paired it to the car I was able to complete the button programming just fine. The whole process took about 15 minutes. I also use the key by photo service they offer and it was absolutely on point no issues at all. I will be using them again and recommending them to friends and colleagues for extra keys

BEWARE of TOM's. They act UNETHICALLY.

Tom's uses an AI device to answer calls and make suggestions. The EZ installer they sent me for my 2014 Ford Escape push button start, along with a key fob for that vehicle, did not work. They suggested that I return that installer for another installer called Find My Key. I did so, received and tried the FMK installer and found out from the FMK installer and from Find My Key tech support that the installer would not work for my push button start. What a runaround and a huge headache and waste of my time. I cannot recommend this company, as they seem to enjoy giving people a runaround in hopes that some will not request a refund. That is UNETHICAL. BEWARE!

Hello Bruce, We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and the frustration this situation caused. Our intention was never to give you the runaround, and we sincerely apologize that the troubleshooting and alternative programmer recommendation did not lead to a successful solution for your 2014 Ford Escape push-button start vehicle. We understand how disappointing and time-consuming that must have been. Our support team attempted to provide an alternative DIY solution based on the information available during troubleshooting, but unfortunately, compatibility limitations ultimately prevented the programming process from succeeding in your case. While many customers successfully use our DIY products, we recognize that certain vehicle configurations and security systems can present challenges. We also understand your concerns regarding the AI phone system. We’re continuously reviewing and improving the guidance provided through both our AI and human support channels to reduce confusion and improve accuracy. We genuinely regret that your experience did not meet expectations, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. It helps us identify areas where we can improve our communication, compatibility guidance, and overall customer experience.

They Don't Refund all of your Money!

5/28/26 - my reply to your reply If you would have really reviewed the order as you stated in your reply, you would see that I never had any FOB's successfully programmed. Your CS team advised that the FOB you sent was the only one they had for my car. I would not have expected a refund of shipping costs if you would have sent me FOB's that fit my car. 5/18/26 - I guess the negative reviews work! They refunded me the $10 bucks. They kept telling me they paid that out to ship so they don't refund but I told them thats your problem since you guys shipped the wrong product! I just tried them out for my 2011 Hyundai Sante Fe. The OEM FOB is wearing out. I provided them the VIN of the vehicle, they said they have the FOB and I bought it and paid for use of the programmer (they take a security deposit so you return the programmer). When I received the FOB, I noticed it was different but I tried and could not program. I requested a refund which they promptly approved. After they received the returned FOB and programmer, they refunded me all the money except for $10. I asked them why because they sent me the wrong FOB and they said they don't refund the shipping $7 and the insurance $3. I explained again they blew it not me, but they said sorry, we don't refund that. While its only $10, it should not cost me anything!!

Hello Alan, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry for the frustration this experience caused. After reviewing your order, we confirmed that the product listing and compatibility information on our website matched the item that was shipped. Because vehicle manufacturers may use different OEM fob styles for similar models, we always recommend comparing the product photos and part numbers with the customer’s existing OEM fob before ordering to ensure an exact match. We’re glad that the programmer was ultimately able to successfully program your 2 new replacement OEM fobs. We also understand your concerns regarding the remaining shipping and shipping protection charges. As outlined in our return policy, shipping-related fees are generally non-refundable once paid to the carrier and third-party services. However, we did make every effort to help resolve the situation as smoothly as possible and processed the remainder of the refund accordingly. We appreciate your feedback and understand your perspective.

Bought programmer and key fob about a…

Bought programmer and key fob about a year ago. While waiting for delivery, I found my fob so I did not make the extra key fob, putting it away for the next time I lost my fob( not aware that they would not guarantee it beyond 90 days). Now they gave me all kinds of excuses as to why key programmer is not working but in the end excuses were not valid. Sent them screenshots requested but now they are refusing to refund my Money so I can apply it to a locksmith charge. Maybe within their policy but definitely not good customer service!!!

Hello Ellen, We’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand your frustration, especially after attempting to use the programmer at a later time and running into difficulties. We do appreciate that you worked with our team through multiple troubleshooting attempts and provided the screenshots we requested. Based on the programming attempts completed, it appears the system may have reached the programming attempt limit for the vehicle’s PMK process, which can prevent additional attempts unless the limit is reset. During the last troubleshooting step, we were unfortunately unable to fully verify the exact failure point because the final error message was not captured. However, our team is still willing to assist with resetting the programming limit if you would like to continue trying the programming process. Regarding the refund request, we understand your disappointment. Our return policy provides a 45-day satisfaction guarantee, and our manufacturer warranty covers defects within 90 days from purchase. Since the product was purchased approximately a year ago and stored unused during that time, it falls outside both the return and warranty coverage periods. We understand this was not the outcome you were hoping for, and we sincerely apologize for the frustration caused. Your feedback is appreciated and helps us continue improving both our product guidance and customer support experience.

Save Money, Save Time!

All around great service. I ordered two replacement key fobs with one programmer for my 2012 Ford F-150. Upon submitting my initial order, I realized I forgot to order the key cutting service. I contacted them and Mariah hooked me right up and added the key cutting service to my order in progress. Keys arrived quicky. I followed the online step by step instructions and 30 minutes later they were programmed and working perfectly. Most importantly the two key fobs cost about 2/3 of the price quoted by my local Ford dealership for 1 key fob and in half the time. Fantastic service!

Cheap junk company. Spend the money and go to the dealer.

I purchased new fobs for my vehicle that was listed as covered on their site. We did get one of the fobs to work for a while, about a month, never did get the second fob to work. They sent a replacement that I never got working either. The first one that did work only worked for a month or so then it died. They said put a new batt in it. (really? after only a month?) That didn't fix it. Now since we have been going round and round for more than 90 days they won't issue a refund. Cheap junk company. spend the money and go to the dealer.

Hello Nathan, We’re very sorry to hear about your experience and understand how frustrating it must have been to deal with repeated issues with the key fobs. After reviewing your case, we can see that your original order was placed in December 2025, and the most recent issue was reported in April 2026. We truly appreciate you reaching back out to let us know what happened. Like many companies, we do have warranty and return policy timeframes in place, especially as a small family-owned business, and these policies help us manage returns and product support fairly for all customers. That said, we also understand your frustration, particularly after already going through troubleshooting and replacement attempts. We genuinely wish we had been able to resolve the issue sooner and within the original support timeframe. Because we value our customers and wanted to help make this right, we made a one-time exception to approve your return request. As advised by our support team, once all items are returned using the provided return label and received by our warehouse, the items will be inspected and your refund will be processed accordingly. We appreciate your feedback and are sorry that your experience did not meet expectations. Comments like yours help us continue improving our products, troubleshooting process, and customer support experience.

Great customer service

Great customer service! They reached out immediately after my order to make sure I had ordered correctly, which I hadn't. They explained clearly what I needed and changed the order. Super easy to set up the fobs! I had originally tried going through a couple of local locksmiths with no help. So glad I found tomskey.com.

This is the real deal

This is the real deal. I went to ACE Hardware and they were going to charge me $300. They also said that if I had aftermarket wheels and radio, they couldn’t program it. I used Tom’s keys and it was very simple and easy for the remote. There were no instructions for the key however so I emailed them. They sent me a video on how to program the key, and it took 10 seconds without a programmer. Great service, I highly recommend it.

All hype no results

All hype no results. Had fob and programmer for days. Tried 15 times no luck. Wasted a,hell of alot of time and Tried emailing cause for working people they kept banking hours on troubleshooting number. Only to get a message like calling the cable company. Hello Dwight, We’re sorry to hear that the programming process didn’t work out for you and understand how frustrating and time-consuming that must have been. We can see that you reached out to our technical support partner for troubleshooting assistance. During programming, confirming that the correct steps are followed and verifying the exact vehicle information are both extremely important, as even small differences can affect compatibility and programming success. That said, we understand your frustration with the troubleshooting experience and the limited support hours, especially when trying to fit this into a busy work schedule. We also apologize if the initial troubleshooting questions felt repetitive or unhelpful, our goal is always to rule out the most common causes first so we can identify the issue as quickly as possible. While we weren’t able to get enough information to fully determine what prevented the programming from completing successfully, we do appreciate that you gave us the opportunity to assist and troubleshoot the issue. We’re sorry the experience did not meet your expectations, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve both our support process and customer experience moving forward.

Extra charge after purchase

What I disliked was after making the purchase, I was then directed to pay an additional $60.00 and attach photos of my existing key.

Hello Mark. We’re sorry for the confusion and frustration this caused. To clarify, the Key by Photo service is an optional add-on that allows us to cut your key before shipping, so you don’t need to visit a local locksmith. This service is offered after the initial purchase and costs $59.95 plus applicable taxes. It’s completely optional, and the order can proceed without it if you prefer to have the key cut locally. That said, we understand how this may have felt like an unexpected additional charge, and we apologize if it wasn’t presented clearly during your experience. We never intend to mislead our customers. If you’d like us to review your order or assist further, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected] or via live chat on TomsKey.com, we’re here to help. Thank you for your feedback, as it helps us improve how we communicate optional services moving forward.
