DO NOT SHOP GAMES THROUGH STREAM , do not support steam what so ever.
BUY GAMES ON WEBSITES THAT SELLS KEYS INSTEAD AND U GET THE GAMES MUCH CHEPER
NEVER BUY A GAME THROUGH THE STEAM APP AND NEVER SUPPORT THEM , IF U DO UR A COMPLETE FOOL
Was pretty shocked to see Steam with such a low rating. Not really sure where these 1-Star reviews are coming from. Looks like quite a few of them are issues with a single game franchise, Call Of Duty, and problems with Microsoft's Azure hosting service. Nothing to do with Steam, but I digress...
For me, as someone who's been gaming since the early 80's, when Steam came along it was an absolute godsend. No more disks lying around getting scratched, no more going to the store to find out they're sold out of the newest game, no more finding out you're 3 patches behind when you go to join your friends online. Everything is right there, in one place, ready to install, patch, and play.
What really sells me on Steam, however, is their internal policies. Everyone knows about the refund policy, which is exceptional for an online service. But few know about their anti-advertising policy, keeping games from flooding you with ads while you play. Or their library restoration policy, which means if someone accidentally deletes a game you paid for from your library they can recover it for you. Or their account recovery policy, which helps you recover your account and prosecute the criminal who stole it. Their brilliance on user reviews, as well, means I can check out what players feel about a game before I choose to buy.
Put plainly, I feel safe spending money on Steam. I know the games I purchase will still be there tomorrow, and the month after that, and years after that. Steam is dedicated to the players, while still remaining fair to developers, and that's a perfect balance for a software distributer. Not to mention, their short but excellent sales bring a lot of AAA games down into the realm of affordability for players who can't really spend $80 on a game.
All in all, I'm a big fan of Steam. I've got over 700 games on the platform, have written over 170 curator reviews, and have well over 10,000 hours of total gameplay across my entire library. If that doesn't represent how good of a service Steam is... I don't know what would.

Don't trust these clowns!
made a refund request from my PC regarding what would be the second refund in about 20 years for a game that has issues making it unplayable. made the refund request within the allotted time slot of play time and instead of a straight forward response I received the following reply.
"Your help request appears to have been submitted from a cloud computing service provider. We will not be able to assist you with this specific submitted request for that reason. Please re-submit your help request from your normal computer network. This request will be closed but you are welcome to attempt to contact us again."
Not sure why I received this as the request was sent from my laptop. Terrible customer service journey. All of my faith and confidence lost after over 20 years as a customer.
Amazing support, amazing platform, great discounts, great updates. There is not a single negative thing about this company.
All the losers crying 100% sure are bots or liars. Their support is fast, refunds are great, prices amazing.
My account got hacked on may 15th at 6pm and i noticed it by may 16th 1am i summitted request to get some help on how to fix my situation and it has been over 48 hours with no response i hear people talk about how good steam is at its prevention of this but now that its my time to experience it they are leaving me out to dry with no help
Trading through steam was always a hassle, i had to wait 15 days to actually start trading and i had to turn my authenticator app on for 7 days but even after 7 days i had to wait 15 days yet it still wasn't listed on the market place
but it has good tech support tho
Really sorry way of conducting business. Totally insulated from their dissatsfied customers. Thanks for the $$, here's your crap. Good luck with our Customer Service Portal to nowhere..
Steam refuses to help with purchases made through them that have been permanently lost due to a game company refusing to allow ownership verification of a game copy via Steam itself.
This platform has no privacy protections in place to prevent your info from being leaked and spread throughout it
I had my personal info leaked after leaving a review for a game on it.
Attackers used the comments of my review and profile to post it to. After i locked those up they then made a group with my real name and put the leaked information there, Steam took a week to remove it and then the attackers remade it under a different name right after.
I BEEN CONSISTENTLY CONTACTING SUPPORT, AND USING THEIR FEATURED REPORT SYSTEM.
YET THE SAME PERPETRATORS THAT KEEP POSTING VIOLENT CONTENT AND EVEN GROOM MINORS ONLINE NOT ONLY ARE ALLOWED TO KEEP DOING SO, BUT THEY BRAG, EVEN POSTING EVIDENCE WITH SUPPORT CHAT, ABOUT HOW THE STEAM MODERATORS LAUGHT AND ALLOW THOSE CRUDE INADMISSIBLE CONDUCTS.
REPORTED THIS TO AUTHORITIES, BUT IT SEEMS IT WILL TAKE LONG TIME AND MOST PROBABLY THE ACTUAL SICKOS WHO ASK OTHER KIDS FOR PICTURES ARE NEVER GOING TO GET CAUGHT...
SAD TO LIVE IN A WORLD LIKE THIS WHERE EVIL IS THE NORM!
Refuse to deliver products with no reason, lying thieves
A lot of the negative reviews here are unfounded whining, it's a shop, it's not its duty to act as a parent to kids whose parents don't care enough to pay attention to them. It's an an all encompassing global store stocking everything from game jam games to indies to triple A titles, complaining that some of the games it offers contain mature content makes no sense, by that same logic you should be boycotting every shop and website that has ever sold a variety of books, dvds, blurays, games or comics.
It is not steams duty or place to blanket ban any game more mature than helly kitty because some crap parents apparently freely let their kids use the parents bank details to buy games they aren't old enough for.
But, that being said steam in 2026 is still a joke.
Quick story of my brief experience with the worst "support" ever
Created a steam account
Friend gifted me a card to get started
Was a [b]digital gift card[b/b] bought through steam and sent via friend list
I was not allowed to accept it, no justification whatsoever was given, just an entirely worthless "An error occurred accepting your gift, please try again in a few minutes."
Contacted steams wrongly titled "support" who replied demanding a picture of me holding a physical gift card, completely ignoring their own delivery method
I had my friend forward me the receipt email of the purchase where it clearly showed DIGITAL GIFT CARD
Steam "support" replied basically saying "lol go eff yourself"
"I understand you're having trouble redeeming the digital gift card.
Unfortunately, this gift card cannot be redeemed on your account.
"
I followed up asking for them to provide any justification at all for refusing to deliver their own product bought via their own platform.
They replied with the entirely worthless, wholly unprofessional
Unfortunately, this is all the information Steam Support is able to provide.
Then wrapped the reply up, by continuing to ignore the method in which they were failing to deliver their own product and then locked the ticket
To clarify, the purchaser can send the digital gift card to your persona as seen on their friend's list instead of sending it to your email address.
Because we have provided all the information we have for your issue I'm closing this help request. If you have an unrelated issue please open a new help request and we will be happy to help.
Single most unprofessional, willfully unhelpful company I have ever seen. Literally refusing to deliver their own products bought on their own app and being delivered by their own app
This 15-day trade hold is ridiculous. First, you need to make a purchase, then you are restricted from trading for 7 days. If you change your Steam Mobile Authenticator, for example because you bought a new phone, you can receive another 15-day restriction.
So in total, you can end up waiting 22 days just to trade or sell your own items. That is extremely frustrating and makes no sense for normal users who are not doing anything wrong.
Took payment out of my bank account for the new steam controller but have not given me a receipt or invoice and are saying they haven't received payment and that it didnt go through
So how has the money gone from my account!?!?!?!
Bght Forza Horizon 5. Liked it. Next day bght expansion pack that added 50 cars. Loved it! Next day bght another upgrade. Second upgrade voided the 50 car pack I purchased. Asked for a refund. Was told to pound salt.
Steam is GOATED. Got my account back. Made a review how steam is bad but my account got hacked and they got it back for me, Steam has lots of discounts and most of their refunds work.
