What people say

Started fine, then finished job myself

I employed a Thumbtack employee to paint my condo door. All was great at first...arrived on time, put full effort in the job, and I gave him cash. He said in his broken English (used his cell phone to translate) that he needed to come back the next day to finish...very little left to do...that was fine. Well, he never came back...did not respond to emails, texts, nor calls. As I thought about it afterwards, recalling things he said and he let me read his phone translations, I suspected that he was an illegal. I finished up the job. No, I will not use the service again...too risky...

Discovering a project was left unfinished is incredibly frustrating, especially after such a promising start! Your time is valuable, and this is certainly not the standard of reliability we want for our customers. While our platform connects independent pros with homeowners rather than employing them directly, we take accountability and community guidelines very seriously. Please reach out to our Support team at (866) 501-5809 so we can look into this door painting project and offer direct assistance.

Asnaldo from Kefi Painting Construction…

Asnaldo from Kefi Painting Construction LLC.performed an excellent painting job on the exterior of my house in Winter Park FL. He was professional in every way. The job looks great and he was very meticulous. I would recommend him to everyone. Eric Vasquez

I was a Pro and what a bad service

I was a Pro and what a bad service! Ive been trying to have my information removed from the Thumbtack system, but they refuse! I just filed a complaint with the FCC. Hopefully my information is remove. It appears they sell your personal infomation! Dont sigh up with these bottom feeders!

Toilet Install No Show

I scheduled a toilet install two weeks in advance after purchasing the toilets through a well-known big box store who uses Thumbtack. No calls and no show. When I tried to contact Thumbtack customer service on the day (Wednesday), I was told they were closed until Friday for meetings. I filed a concern using their web form, and they said that I couldn’t change my project once it had been finalized; this was the day after they did not show up. I was finally able to cancel the “install” after spending two hours where I bought the toilets. I will definitely not use this service ever again. I have to make other arrangements now for the install.

Nonexistent Service

Thumbtack has been one of the most frustrating service platforms I have used. Their customer service is virtually nonexistent. I have called their support line repeatedly for three days and have been unable to reach a live representative or receive meaningful assistance. When customers need help, there appears to be no reliable way to get it. The vendors on the platform have been just as disappointing. Multiple providers responded initially and then completely stopped communicating, wasting my time and leaving projects unresolved. A platform that promotes trusted professionals should have better standards and accountability for the businesses it recommends. I chose Thumbtack expecting reliable service and vetted professionals. Instead, I encountered poor customer support, unresponsive vendors, and a lack of accountability. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Thumbtack to anyone looking for dependable service providers. Use caution before relying on this platform for important projects.

Stay away from Thumbtack

⭐☆☆☆☆ Charged for leads double/triple my distance settings as well as out of state — disputed everything, got nowhere I’m a 5-star rated pro on Thumbtack with a spotless record. I had my targeting set to “Select by distance” the entire time — confirmed correct by multiple Thumbtack reps on multiple occasions. Didn’t matter. The platform delivered leads not only from locations double and triple my configured radius, but from entirely different states — and charged me for every one. When I disputed the charges, I was passed between five different representatives across the Refund Disputes and Support teams. Each one either denied my refund, ignored my follow-up, or gave me an explanation that directly contradicted what the previous rep said in writing. One rep told me prior refunds were “one-time considerations.” Another recommended I switch to distance-based targeting — the exact setting I already had. A third confirmed my settings were correct and escalated to supervisors. More out-of-area leads arrived within 24 hours. The platform approved refunds for some out-of-area leads and denied refunds for identical leads from the same zip codes. Out-of-state leads for hands-on repair jobs — physically impossible for a local service provider to fulfill — were denied refunds entirely. No explanation. No accountability. Just form letters. I filed complaints with the BBB, the Florida AG, the FTC, and the CFPB. I removed my credit card from the account. Nearly $300 in disputed charges for leads that never should have been delivered in the first place. If you’re a service professional considering Thumbtack, your targeting settings may not actually control what you’re charged for, and their dispute process is designed to outlast you — not resolve your issue. I’d recommend staying away from using this business, if you have an issue I can guarantee you that they will do nothing but give you the run around. I even emailed their CEO on several occasions and never received a reply. They push customers to pick multiple pros not because the customer wants to but because each pro that is contacted pays for that lead. Which I was fine with paying for leads in my area even if I didn’t get the job but being charged for leads double, triple my distance settings and even out of state leads and being denied refunds is just them lining their pockets with money their stealing from small businesses and I truly hope there are more pros that speak up about this Edit: I love Thumbtacks reply, this is there typical blowoff that never addresses anything and no one will get back to you and do a single thing to assist you or try to explain as to why they are charging for leads that are double/triple my distance settings and in multiple cases completely across the US!! I had filed a complaint on the BBB website and they replied all 3 times with a blanket statement never once addressing a single issue. However, they are smart enough to know as long as they reply, regardless of it’s with a template they use over and over it still counts and they keep their 5 star status on BBB even with over a 1000 complaints against them.

Growing a local business takes immense dedication, and hearing about your frustration with our targeting system and refund process is disheartening. Our goal is always to provide a reliable space where local pros can find meaningful jobs within their specified service areas. Because you have already been in communication with multiple internal teams, your account details and targeting history are being reviewed closely by our operations team. Thank you for your patience!

Thumbtack Abandons the Professionals…

Thumbtack Abandons the Professionals Who Built Its Platform ⭐☆☆☆☆ I have been a paying Thumbtack customer for years and have invested thousands of dollars into this platform. As a small business owner, I helped support Thumbtack’s growth by consistently purchasing leads, maintaining a professional profile, delivering quality service, and building a strong reputation with customers. Unfortunately, my experience with the company has deteriorated significantly over time. Lead costs have increased dramatically, often two or three times higher than they were in previous years, while the value provided to professionals continues to decline. Communication with potential customers has become more restricted, transparency has decreased, and the platform continues to implement policies that seem more focused on maximizing revenue than supporting the businesses that helped build its marketplace. What concerns me most is Thumbtack’s handling of disputes. A platform should serve as a neutral connection between customers and service providers, not as the final authority in determining liability, insurance responsibilities, or financial settlements. In my case, Thumbtack demanded that I reimburse a veterinary bill in full, despite my company having its own policies, documentation, and insurance considerations. When I disagreed with Thumbtack’s conclusion and attempted to explain my position, the company chose to permanently deactivate my account. The most troubling part is that Thumbtack effectively imposed a resolution that neither a court, insurance company, nor independent third party had determined. Customers have a responsibility to review the policies, terms, and coverage of the businesses they hire, just as businesses have a responsibility to operate professionally and transparently. Those matters should be resolved through the appropriate channels, not dictated solely by a platform whose primary role is to connect buyers and service providers. After years of loyalty, thousands of dollars invested in leads, and helping generate revenue for Thumbtack, it is disappointing to see a company treat long-term professionals as disposable when a disagreement arises. The platform appears increasingly focused on protecting its own interests rather than ensuring fairness and balance for the businesses that have invested heavily in its success. Businesses are not just customers of Thumbtack we are the product Thumbtack sells. Without professionals spending their hard-earned money on leads and advertising, there would be no marketplace. Many of us helped build this platform from the ground up, only to discover that our years of support, investment, and loyalty carry very little weight when disputes occur. I can no longer recommend Thumbtack to fellow business owners. There are other marketing channels that provide more transparency, more control over customer relationships, and a fairer approach to dispute resolution. If Thumbtack truly values the professionals who built its marketplace, it should reconsider how it handles disputes, improve transparency, respect the role of insurance and company policies, and remember that its success has been funded by the small businesses that trusted and supported the platform for years.

Your long-term dedication to building your business and marketplace reputation matters, and it is disappointing to hear your experience has ended this way. Our trust and safety guidelines are designed to look out for the entire community, but we realize how tough it is when account actions feel final and disruptive to your livelihood. Thank you for your hard work and for sharing these insights on how we can better balance dispute resolution for our pros.

May 2026 Thumbtack update RUINS the platform

Thumbtack is just another annoying provider who overcharges leads across the board in all service sectors. Their MOST RECENT (5/30/26) is ridiculous and I expect other operators to drop out of using the service like flies along with me. Without access to client's phone numbers, we cannot accurately fill out the systems we use which require accurate numbers to enter a client information. If we are required to call from only our registered device, my employees who reach out from different phone number can no longer handle my leads for me. If I no longer have access to the client's phone number, my outreach flow within my CRM has been interrupted. If I not longer have access to the client's phone number, now I get double notifications from my app and CRM which I have already connected with Thumbtack. This was an ill-informed, dumb mistake of an update by this company. I expect this to be QUICKLY reversed as I'm sure the market will respond to this idiocracy.

Worst company ever

Worst company ever, they don't vet anybody and will send criminals to your home.... I've tried Thumbtack twice in and had Terrible experiences both times... One guy canceled at the last minute.Unless I paid him double.. Don't ever use thumbtack... And bad reviews for the people they send to your house disappear

Poor way to do business

This is a service provider for a company where I purchased a ceiling fan. I was supposed to hear from the installer within two business days. Instead, I received an email where I had do download Thumbtack's app and fill out the same information the store had provided them. I received a CONFIRMED installation date that was a week out and then the day before the installation I received notice from Thumbtack that they "couldn't find a pro in time for this job." Needless to say, I am not at all impressed with this experience. Buyer beware as this is apparently how they do business.

Make no mistake Thumbtack is a scam

Make no mistake Thumbtack is a scam. Services are way overpriced with ambiguous language regarding exactly what they will and will not do. If you absolutely have to use Thumbtack for anything, I would advise going in with a budget and negotiating down. Most definitely DO NOT pay 100% up front. Keep in mind that negative reviews are not displayed on the website, only glowing positives.

We ordered a bathroom faucet a month…

We ordered a bathroom faucet a month ago from Lowe's. Unfortunately, they use Thumbtack now to schedule an installer. Thumbtack claimed for 4 weeks that they couldn't find anyone to install the faucet. They tried to charge us for the installation that never happened. Today we found out that Thumbtack cancelled the order without telling us. So we called a local plumber this afternoon. He's coming to install it tomorrow morning. Thumbtack has treated us like complete garbage. They really need to be more careful.

If I could start a class action lawsuit…

If I could start a class action lawsuit on the predatory and conniving tactics to exploit pros in the business I would. This type of business model needs to be burned down to the ground. Customers have no idea what’s going on in the background and they should pay at least a $5 for finding a new pro. They should pay something. Even a dollar! You can’t have them thinking the platform is free for use. Horrible service. It will be even worst when Ai takes over the company and they start laying off real people. It’s only a matter of time before this company is bankrupt. The model will fail with the rise of ai. I pray this day comes sooner. I’m done with this platform.

Horrible service

Horrible service. Will send any9ne to your home. Unqualified individuals who will ruin your product, dont complete the job and demand payment. Go with Angie's list. Do not deal with thimbtack. They do not review these people abd allow anyone to come to your home. People who dont even speak English that you cannot communicate with. I find this site to be unsafe and unvetted

Completely incompetent

I bought a ceiling fan from Lowes, they contract their installations out to Thumbtack. After my purchase they tell me someone will contact me in 2 days. After 6 days I call them. They tell me their still looking for someone to do the job. 12 days after purchase they give me a time and date. A day later I get a confirmation email with a completely different time. A day after that, I get a text message asking me to schedule a time and date. The soonest date I can pick is four days after the day they gave me 2 days ago. I can't image how a company can stay in business like this. I'll definitely never use the service again.

Reply from Thumbtack2026-06-11

Scheduling your ceiling fan installation should have been a seamless process, and it is incredibly frustrating to deal with mixed messages and delays. Clear communication is essential, and this back-and-forth timeline is not the experience we want for our customers! Your feedback on this scheduling breakdown is incredibly helpful to us as we work to make the experience on Thumbtack more enjoyable for all our customers. If you would like more support, please give us a call at (866) 501-5809. We are here to help!
