AI generated

Most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Consumers frequently complain about expensive lead pricing and continually getting charged for unresponsive or fake clients who never reply. Customer support is often described as completely unhelpful, making it extremely difficult to resolve billing disputes or reach anyone. Some reviewers were happy with the professional and efficient service provided by skilled contractors who arrived right on time. People also appreciated timely job completion, neat workspaces, and very polite communication throughout the entire project duration. A few users mentioned good experiences finding reliable help for simple home repairs and painting tasks around the house.

What people say

Poor follow through

I scheduled 5 days out, two days prior to fan installation I get an email telling me they don't have anyone to do the job. I called and now I have to wait another 5 days to schedule. Lowe's has made a strategical error linking up with Thumbtack. Hopefully it will get done in 5 days, but I strongly suspect I get an email in 3 days telling me they can't keep that appointment either. As I prognosticated... I just received an email informing Thumbtack had no one do do the job and to reschule, again. This entire process is laughable. After updating review received a call stating they found a pro that could come on Tuesday. No call/no show. Canceled install and hired another company.

Michael Sicsounds!

I am so excited to write a review for one of the Best DJ's! Michael of Sicsounds was a pleasure to work with! He put together an incredible event! I seriously had people young and old complimenting him all night! Even the staff asked for his card! He will be my go to from now on!

Thank you for choosing us to help elevate your special event, and here’s to many more incredible celebrations ahead!

Very low lead quality

Thumbtack used to be a good source of quality leads. As a professional plumbing company, we had a good contact and conversion rate. The lead quality has steadily declined while the cost of leads has steadily increased. The value (even while in decline) was still there even if it was diminishing. At this point, Thumbtack has gotten to the point where the quality is so bad, it will struggle to get to break even with them. Very poor... not worth the spend. Put your money somewhere else. The only people who will make money with them is Thumbtack themselves. Legitimate contractors are leaving them in droves, leaving nothing but low end contractors and handymen.

We're disappointed to hear about your feedback on our lead quality and cost. We are always working hard to make sure leads come from verified, high-intent customers. If you're up for it, give our Support team a call at (866) 501-5809. We would love to see how we can improve your experience and help you find the success you are after!

I had no idea that Thumbtack charges…

I had no idea that Thumbtack charges around $40 from each pro I ask a quote from. When I request multiple quotes, then all those people are charged even if they don’t reach out, I don’t hire them, etc. I will never use TT again due to this money grab. Feel like I just took hard earned money from pros that are just trying to earn a decent wage. Disgusting

Reply from Thumbtack2026-06-22

The pros listed on our site are aware of the cost to connect with local customers. We encourage our customers to reach out to multiple pros to find the best one for their project! In doing so, you are using Thumbtack as it was designed to be used. If you have questions about this process, please call our Support team at (866) 501-5809. We're here to help!

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. THEY CHARGE YOU FOR LEADS WHEN YOU CAN'T EVEN ACCESS YOUR ACCOUNT AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS. THEY DESERVE NO STARS BUT IT WOULD NOT LET ME WRITE THIS WITHOUT AT LEAST ONE STAR. IM GETTING LEGAL REPRESENTATION. GO WITH ANGI. NOT THUMBTACK.!!!!!!!!!!

Lead charges should only happen when your account is active and targeting preferences are turned on. For support navigating these incoming charges and your current account status, please give our Support team a call at (866) 501-5809. We want to make sure this is resolved for you!

More Focused on Revenue Than Supporting Pros

I've been using Thumbtack for about a year, and while the experience has been inconsistent, I was able to generate enough leads to make a profit. Unfortunately, the platform's recent changes have completely changed my opinion. The biggest issue is being charged for leads related to services I have never offered or advertised. On top of that, when Thumbtack approves a refund, the money isn't actually returned to your bank account—it is issued as platform credit instead. In other words, they still keep your money and simply require you to spend it within their system, often on leads that may not even be relevant to your business. Customer support has been equally frustrating. After spending nearly two hours on hold and getting nowhere with an AI support system that provided little to no real assistance, I finally decided enough was enough. At this point, it feels like Thumbtack is more focused on maximizing its own revenue than helping professionals succeed. While there aren't many great alternatives in the lead-generation space, Thumbtack has become the worst option I've personally used. I can no longer recommend it and would suggest looking elsewhere if you're serious about finding a reliable and professional lead service.

Sold my info???

I looked for a couple of contractors fir a roof repair. Process was fine. But still waiting for contractor to finish job, so they'll get their rating later. I question what thumbtack does with my info. Ya, 3 bids from roofers, but now Im getting 5 calls/txts a week from tree service, painters, etc, areas I had no need for help and have not searched for in the past. So I figure thumbtack gave my number away and here they come....no proof, but coincidence just just too perfect.

Reply from Thumbtack2026-06-18

Your experience finding roofers to compare bids should have felt seamless without causing data concerns. Connecting homeowners with local pros is our priority, and safeguarding your information is a fundamental part of that. We do not sell or distribute your contact details to unrelated categories like tree services or painters. While we hope your roof repair wraps up perfectly, please feel free to reach out to us directly at (866) 501-5809 so we can look into why you are receiving these unwanted calls.

Thumbtacky's idea of "getting stuff done

Thumbtack's idea of "getting stuff done" appears to be scheduling appointments for work they can't perform and then congratulating themselves for issuing a refund that never arrived. I received enough emails and text messages to suggest a highly organized operation. Unfortunately, the one thing that wasn't organized was finding someone to actually do the job. I did not seek out Thumbtack. This service was arranged through Lowe's for an Ecobee smart thermostat installation. The original appointment was confirmed and then canceled because Thumbtack stated they could not find a professional to perform the installation. I received an email stating that a full refund would be issued. No refund was received. After contacting Lowe's, their representative spent approximately 30 minutes working with Thumbtack and I was told that a professional had been located after all. A second installation appointment was scheduled for today between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM. No one arrived. No one called. No one texted. No one emailed. The last communication I received was an automated reminder for a previous appointment that had already been canceled. At this point, the issue is not simply that an installation was missed. The issue is the complete lack of communication and the apparent disconnect between scheduling, customer service, and whatever system is responsible for appointment notifications. If your goal is to receive automated messages, appointment confirmations, cancellations, apologies, and promises of refunds, Thumbtack appears to have that process mastered. If your goal is to have the work actually completed, my experience suggests you should have a backup plan.

Unreliable Person sent.

The last two times I used thumbtack the person that showed up could not speak English. One had to use a translator on their Cell Phone. They didn't show up at the time I aexpected them, and one said, she wanted to look at my house to she if she could negotiate a better price. Heither person was allowed to work for me.

One of the worst lead service for…

One of the worst lead service for professionals. High lead cost, Once you pay for a lead they do whatever is possble to avoid you contact the customer. Ypu pay for a lead and you don't get the customer's phone number or email. It used to be the most eeffective lead services for years and now is frustraiting. Cuastomer service also doesn't exist. I just had to update my review from 2 stars to only 1. Customer service is getting worst.

Thumbtack customer service is really…

Thumbtack customer service is really bad. Their live chat agent doesn't work and be aware that they put you on hold to speak a person for at least 30 minutes. We run a swim business and used Thumbtack to generate leads and the experience was really poor. I paused the account and no reminder was sent to let me know that the account will be unpaused after 30 days and they continue to charge without sending proper notification. BE CAUTIOUS BEFORE YOU SIGN UP!

Never use Thumbtack

Atrocious company that profits off of fake and irrelevant leads. On top of this, unathourized charges were made on my account and I could never get a refund.

Reply from Thumbtack2026-06-15

Hearing about this experience is very concerning, as providing a transparent marketplace for pros to grow their business is a top priority. Account charges should always align directly with the targeting preferences set in your profile. While lead fees apply to connections with real customers, your feedback regarding refund requests is taken seriously. Continuous adjustments are made to improve lead verification and ensure a fair environment for every business owner.

Set up an account over a year ago

Set up an account over a year ago. Never received a qualified lead. Thought I had hidden my account so that I would not receive any more charges and hadn't since June of 2025. All of the sudden this weekend I got hit with 2 charges for $95 each for leads that do not pertain to my business. I disputed the charges this morning and got a canned refusal email back from them. Phone support is non-existent. Total scam company, just like the other reviewers are saying. Deleted my account with them.

Reply from Thumbtack2026-06-15

Maintaining a fair marketplace for pros offering local services is vital, and unexpected account charges are understandably frustrating. Although visibility settings drive customer matches, this billing issue deserves a closer look. Please review our established guidelines at https://help.thumbtack.com/article/refund-policy and contact our support team directly at (866) 501-5809 so we can investigate your specific account details and provide direct assistance.

Shady business

Shady business. Hiding lead costs as deep as possible. So some grandmas or grandpas can be the one who “didn’t” check good enough before accepting to Bid for work - or whatever

Reply from Thumbtack2026-06-15

Ensuring that costs are transparent is vital when helping pros find local painting jobs. Because the platform aims to give our pros full control over their spend, adjusting your profile's budgeting preferences is recommended. Please reach out to the support team directly at (866) 501-5809 so we can help optimize your profile and address any specific concerns.

I purchased a toilet from Lowes

I purchased a toilet from Lowes, who uses Thumbtack for their installs. They scheduled an installation date, cancelled it because they "couldn't locate a pro", scheduled a new date and then cancelled THAT for the same reason. This time theya re refunding me for the installation. Not the toilet, just the installation. So now I'm stuck with a toilet in a warehouse I have to have delivered and then find someone else to install it myself. I could have done that three weeks ago when bought it.

Avoid! Don't use this service.

Avoid! I've hired 5 contractors off here. Only 1 of them was honest. One was a criminal. One messed up an entire 20k job bc he used another contractor. Just a bunch of horror stories. I have learned my lesson. Thumbtack doesn't help or look after you as a home owner. They don't care. Just find contractors locally. The people on this app are shady and poorly rated BBB companies.

Reply from Thumbtack2026-06-15

It is deeply disappointing to hear that your recent home projects fell so short of expectations. Providing a secure marketplace for local services is extremely important. Although independent pros manage their own businesses and interactions, ensuring accountability remains a priority. This feedback is invaluable as steps are continually taken to better protect and support every customer on the platform. If you have not already, please make a formal report at https://help.thumbtack.com/report-a-concern so our team can help you work toward a resolution.

THERE'S GOTTA BE A BETTER WAY!!!

I would like to do a review on this company. Thumbtack, first of all, let me start by saying they have a great onboarding staff that's where it starts, and that's where it ends. I had so many problems getting into touch with the customer. After not getting in touch with the customer, I thought to myself. Hey, why would I call a customer who has already contacted two or three pros of their choosing. It would seem if someone doesn't want you, why would you pay to convince them? Otherwise they made their choice. But this is the part that baffles me to no end. If five people call and the customer chooses no one and the lead itself cost 75 person that's three hundred and seventy five dollars unaccounted for, there's no problem with a company making money believe in a free enterprise system. That's what this country was built. But when you start taking advantage of people, that's where I draw the line. I wish there was a company that was out there that gave the consumers. A choice of who they would like to talk to. The customer would be honest forthright. I am trying to do good business.Well, that's not what they promote here on this platform. They invented a new system where you don't even have the customers telephone number. So now we pay for the lead.Don't have the customer telephone number. And the control lies with the person collecting the money. Now, explain to me in what country that makes sense when you buy something. It's yours. They would not allow me to put my builder's license on there.Even though the license belongs to my company and my partner and I. There are so many ways that we as the pros can make this company better. And more profitable for every person involved. But they never asked to hear those things. A free market system is based upon not only fairness but based upon choice. If anyone out there would like to have my information, I have no problem with giving you a full unadulterated disclosure of what I encountered, what I do business with this company. Absolutely one hundred percent not. And I will tell them that!!!

Reply from Thumbtack2026-06-15

Thank you for highlighting our onboarding team and sharing this detailed perspective. It is incredibly important that pros feel supported and see a strong return on investment when offering building services. While lead fees apply to the initial match with interested customers, your points about telephone access and partner license verification are noted. Feedback like yours drives continuous improvements to ensure the platform remains a balanced, valuable tool for local business owners.
