Reviewers had a great experience with this company. Customers frequently praise the wonderful food quality, extremely fresh ingredients, and the amazing convenience of quick, easy-to-make meals that save valuable time throughout the busy week. People really love discovering delicious new recipes and appreciate how simple it is to avoid grocery shopping while eating healthier every single day.
However, some people mentioned that certain fresh produce items spoiled quickly or arrived in a somewhat disappointing condition. A few other people also felt frustrated when unexpected extra items or subscription credits were automatically added to their weekly orders without clear notice.

Our first delivery the box arrived soaking wet and missing items. The response was an offer of $10 credit. We aren’t very impressed but staying on at least one more week to see if it gets any better.

Hi Deborah! So sorry that your first box wasn't the welcome we wanted to give you.
It looks like our teammate got back to you with a $10 credit for the trouble, then added $4 more once you confirmed it was the Cuties Snack Pack missing, so you've got $14 on your account for your next delivery. They also passed the melted ice pack issue along to our shipping team.
If there's anything else still bugging you, just reply to our email and we'll jump back in!
We love the healthy food options, new recipes, and wonderful customer service. They make healthy choices much easier!

Hi there, we're so happy to hear that our healthy food options and new recipes are making healthy choices much easier for you! Thank you for your wonderful feedback.
Did not have the recipes included in my initial delivery. Customer service was helpful with resolving this.
First meal was good. Not sure it would have been adequate for 3 persons had our grandson been home to join us.
Had extras in my order I didn’t pick. Was charged for all but the free item. Have checked my cart twice before tonight’s cut off and had additional items added over basic order twice. I don’t appreciate this kind of tactic.
Hoping it improves.

Hi Brenda, welcome to Hungryroot and appreciate you sharing your feedback. We're sorry your order slip wasn't included and thanks for allowing our team to make things right. Regarding your concern, we offer a flexible budget range on our plans to allow SmartCart to make the best selections for your orders. This means orders may go over or under your plan credits by 4. For example, if SmartCart finds a recipe that is a better fit for you based on your preferences and it’s within the budget range, it will prioritize it and add it to your order. This can result in the final order cost being slightly higher than the base plan price. This only applies to orders that are filled by SmartCart, and not ones that you’ve edited. When editing, you have total control over the amount of credits spent for your order. If you have any questions or would like to be removed from Flex Credits, text our team at (855) 222-5704 and we'd be happy to help further.
Pushed myself to write my first ever review here because keeping silent about my deep frustration witu Hungryroot customer service has been taking a toll on me. This week has given me enough challenges as I spend it mostly in the hospital, realizing after Wednesday that I would not recover in time to pick up my order next Monday. I really wanted to love the idea of Hungryroot’s meal kits to help me save time and learn some healthy meal prep recipes. However, I am surprised (and fairly disgusted) to see the greed behind this seemingly customer-oriented business. Warning to fellow working professionals: if you foresee any travel, family or other life events, know that Hungryroot will create a totally unecessary nightmare in your life as you are unable to cancel delivery past the Wednesday cutoff date (Also note that finding the option to cancel a subscription is considerably on the website more difficult than signing up, which should tell you something itself).
*IMPORTANT: Hungryroot uses a separate company for deliveries, but it seems that company is very closely tied to Hungryroot’s ownership and serves as an excuse for Hungryroot to innocently hold their hands up and say they cannot change the delivery address or order past the unreasonably large cutoff window, even with a 3-day notice.* This is even more unbelievable considering that I begged them to keep my money and keep or throw away all my food this week and just not deliver the perishable package to my doorstep since I am in the hospital. I have simultaneously been experimenting with other meal prep companies in San Diego (Sunday Meal Prep, Meal Prep Co, Prept), and ALL of them not only honored their request, but they happily volunteered to credit me for the week of undelivered groceries. Hungryroot made this request impossible on the website, and when I eventually reached their delivery company’s management team (who is obviously connected with them to allow Hungryroot to pretend they have no control or responsibility over your delivery requests), I was assured by two separate agents that this package would NOT be delivered, but it was anyway (with pictures of my apartment number and the package!).
I even desperately edited my delivery note and address to delete the entry code and unit number and write DO NOT DELIVER instead), and their delivery pictures somehow still captured my apartment number that they should not have known, and a picture of the package left to rot in the lobby for me to helplessly view while still in the hospital. I am staying at an Airbnb this month and am certain this will ruin my good relationship with my Airbnb host and probably future rent opportunities. Note that delivering perishable meet to an address without consent is considered VANDALISM. I will be immunocompromised returning from the hospital next week and pray that I will not get sick simply trying to dispose of this delivery I spent all day requesting that they do not deliver (not to mention any relationship or legal consequence I may be burdened with next week thanks to Hungryroot).
With Hungryroot, you are not allowed to have a sick relative, business travel, or God forbid hospital injury without worrying about what to do with the rotting meat that will arrive at your doorstep whether you like it or not, even if you give them a 3-4 day cancellation request and explain your situation desperately with management.
Working professionals, travelers, busy people, anyone who might have a family emergency or unexpected illness, I pray that you learn from my experience and STAY AWAY from businesses with completely unecessary greedy practices. If you sign up, know that you will live in constant anxiety of a long term commitment to be at your doorstep every Sunday, and Hungryroot will make any exceptions to this impossible unlike every other meal prep company. Saving time and giving freedom should be the heart of meal prep companies, or at least some reasonable exceptions in extenuating circumstances like an Emergency Room visit. My subscription to Hungryoot has made life harder rather than more convenient, and I find myself anxious about this delivery commitment at the end of every wekeend. I can’t tell you how desperate I was for this kind of solution; how much I really wanted to become a long term customer of Hungryroot’s meal kits, and I never thought I would experience service so unimaginably terrible from a company that I would actually bother to create an account to write this review just so I can sleep better at night knowing I haven’t kept silent about my experience. Shame, shame, shame on you, Hungryroot.

We're so sorry to hear about your hospitalization this week, and that your Hungryroot experience added stress at such a hard time. That's genuinely not the experience we want for anyone, and we'd like to make it right.
Would you reach out to us at [email protected] and reference this review? We'll pull up your account, look into exactly what happened with this delivery, and can follow up with our delivery partner directly.
A quick note for context: our weekly order deadline is what lets us pack and ship everything fresh, so changes get limited once an order is in process. We're always looking at how to support customers when the unexpected comes up. Thank you for taking the time to share this, and we hope you're feeling better soon.
I really like the wide variety Hungryroot offers. The premade meals are tasty. The recipes are easy, and if you already know how to cook, you can mix and match the ingredients. Customer service was excellent when I had a delivery issue.

Hi there, we're so happy to hear you're enjoying the wide variety and tasty premade meals! It's great that our easy recipes and flexible ingredients are a hit. We're also glad our customer service was able to assist you with your delivery issue.
Within a year, I had two major issues with my order. Both times custom service was unresponsive then unhelpful when they responded.
They don't correct errors or respond in a reasonable time. I wanted this to work, but I do not trust this company with my groceries, time, or money.

Hi there, we are so happy to hear you enjoyed most of your meals and found the preparation and account management easy. We truly appreciate your positive feedback!
I was a Hungryroot customer for about five months. The food is pricey and often includes pre-cooked chicken. I have canceled my subscription because of a late delivery. I informed Hungryroot it was missing and explained to them that I could not be home to get the box of food. The food was delivered and sat in the hot New Mexico sun for over 36 hours before I convince my neighbor to bring in the food and try and save what food they could. Most of the food was spoiled and Hungry root did not refund anything to me. I do not recommend Hungryroot.

Hi Isabelle
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. We have looked into this and it looks like a full refund has been issued due to being out of town. The reply may have gone to your spam folder, should you get the chance we would love a potential re-rating as we issued a full refund for the issue with Fedex
I signed up for a trial and after receiving the first box, I immediately canceled all future shipments. Upon canceling it also cleared out any order history that I had. Therefore, the next two weeks I was sent shipments that I did not order and I was charged for both of these, but because it cleared out the history, Hungry route would not refund my money. To this day, I cannot go back in and find where I ordered the first shipment or second shipment, I have no email confirmations, ordering any of the shipments yet I still got charged for them. UPDATE:Hungryroot made right and issued me a partial refund. I’m okay with that as after some investigation, the error was in an email address typo.

Hi Valerie
Thank you so much for taking the time to both leave a review and rewrite your review. We are so glad we were able to find your account with a little extra help and issue a refund.
I’m not a health nut and normally steer clear of those types of items in fear of the price and small portions. However, Hungryroot is changing the way my family and I eat. We can try things one serving at a time while saving a ton of time & money. Never had any issues with delivery service or order accuracy. I do wish the perishables would last longer - especially the salad. After 2-3 days of receiving the salad starts to get yucky and I have to replace it with fresh stuff. Other than that, we’re big fans!!

Hi Kate, we're so happy to hear that we're changing the way your family eats and that you're enjoying the convenience and value! We appreciate your kind words about our service. Thank you for being such big fans!
I love the large selection of meals. And the flexibility of weekly meal options. I can add or replace meals to my weekly shipment, as well as replace ingredients in a meal. Thank you helping me to eat healthy by keeping the meals interesting.

I’m exited for meals again! I’ve been so burned out in trying to search for new recipes that are healthy and taste good. It’s been overwhelming day after day. Then came along Hungryroot and I just finished my first week. All of the stress from meal planning is gone! The meals taste great and they are healthy. Would 100% recommend!

I loved not having to shop for meals and getting very nice veggies for four main dishes! Liked them all and there wasn’t much prep to any of it!
Thank You!!!

Hi there, we're so happy to hear you enjoyed the convenience of not having to shop for meals and appreciated the fresh vegetables! It's wonderful that you liked all the dishes and found the prep minimal.
My boxes are delivered by fedex and normally left in our apartments package room on the floor for pick up. My last delivery was stuck in an Amazon parcel locker by the fedex driver over a weekend. Since FedEx cannot send codes to access the lockers I had to wait two days for my apartment complex office to open. By then all the food was spoiled. The part that is upsetting is I have messaged hungry root twice and never received a response back.

Hi Anna, we're so sorry about this. Rest assured, we've already issued a full refund to your original form of payment for this disappointing experience. Seeing as our sent email replies haven't made it to your inbox, please text us at 855-222-5704 so that we can provide an update for you.
I started Hungryroot at my daughter’s suggestion. It has been good for the most part. Some meals are hit or miss. I’m learning to use the app so that there are less misses and more hits!

Hi there, we appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear you're mostly enjoying the experience.
I needed help with lunch. I work from home but don't want to waste my lunch hour cooking, don't want to order delivery, and wanted to offload the mental load of meal planning. But mentally and emotionally it's become important for me to have a special lunch, because dinner is just chaos with 2 young kids. So far (4 weeks) Hungryroot has been the perfect solution. I'm not vegan but my wife is and I wanted to share lunch with her, so I set up my preferences as vegan. So far every single meal has been delicious, not a single bad one yet. Everything about the service just works. Food arrives in a box with ice so it's fresh, and the packaging doesn't seem too wasteful. The meals have been a perfect balance in terms of the amount of prep time also - not so much that I'm losing my lunch hour, but enough that I feel like I'm doing a healthy daily ritual. I was hesitant to try another meal service after a bad experience with another one, but I'm relieved that Hungryroot is working so well.

Hi David, we're so delighted to hear that our service has been such a perfect solution for your lunch needs! It's wonderful to know that we've been able to help offload the mental load of meal planning and provide you with special, delicious vegan lunches to share. We understand how important it is to have that healthy daily ritual, especially with a busy dinner routine. We're also pleased that the prep time and packaging have met your expectations. Your positive experience, especially after a previous less-than-ideal one with another service, truly means a lot to us. Thank you for sharing your fantastic feedback!
