What reviewers say

Most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Customers frequently mention that the staff members are exceptionally friendly, patient, and professional when handling anxious pets. Consumers find the appointment booking process very straightforward, and many are thoroughly impressed by how smart and clean their dogs look after a grooming session.
Some reviewers were not happy with significant price increases, unexpected extra charges, and feeling like they did not receive good value for their money. A few other people also felt that staff members could be impolite, lacking proper communication, or occasionally handling pets in a less gentle manner during appointments.

First time using the Groom room. Booked online, paid the deposit as required and took my dog in. Quick discussion on my dogs health / issues etc and where they tried to upsell some additional shampoo etc which was declined. Given a form to sign, fair enough, i didn't read it all.
Came back, price had been hiked, guess what, Shampoo had been added!. After a long back and forth with head office, it seems this was the 'Spa' shampoo that was added to the service without my knowledge or agreement.
So, watch out for the sharp practices of adding additional things you really didn't request and indeed declined.
We did not write a review at the time because the staff made us feel stupid, but having seen someone else post a similar experience as us, we decided to make others aware to avoid anyone else having similar experiences.
We took our 3 month old puppy for her first puppy groom to get her used to the process.
We did not realise at the time that the grooming did not involve cutting her fur. Having read back up on the puppy groom, this is in fact not included.
After dropping off our puppy, the young girl who works there took her in and seemed nice at first - this was not the case on our return.
According to the young girl, our puppy is very badly behaved, uncontrollable, and that we need to start pulling on her chin so she gets used to it - which she then demonstrated forcefully causing her to cry.
The young girl recommended that we must start pressing a spoon on her paws to get her used to "touching" for when she gets her nails and fur around the paws cut - Not too sure how any individual would even think of this, but she acted as though we were in the wrong for not already doing so?
We were then told that our puppy was reacting very badly to the hair dryer, which, once we mentioned that she loves the hair dryer at home, the girl stuttered and backtracked on what she had said.
She then pressured us to book another appointment - this seemed to be due to the fact that the deposit we initially paid covered the first groom in full and would have partially covered the second groom, otherwise she would have had to provide a partial refund.
We asked for a refund instead, discussing that we would prefer to bring her when she is slightly older so that her fur could be cut also, which the girl then told us that they would refuse to see her again if we did not book her in for 6 more puppy grooms, referring back to how she is very badly behaved.
We would just like to highlight that, on this occassion, our puppy was 3 months old, and would have behaved and reacted as expected, as this was her first groom. She is behaving very well at home including when she is being washed and dried with the hair dryer, but once again, as expected, this whole experience was new to her, and should have been treated accordingly rather than penalised for being a puppy.
What we expected to be a fun experience, taking our puppy for her first groom, ended up being a very embarrassing experience due to the appalling customer service.
As mentioned by Julia Owens on the 21 July 2025, this doesn't even deserve one star, and I would strongly recommend anyone considering booking here to find somewhere else, as we will be doing in future.
😡😡😡😡 I booked my Pomeranian in for a full treatment at gallows corner pets at home, wash, cut, nails, ears etc. I expressed that my dog will need to be muzzled and done by an experienced groomer and was assured by the employee that she would be booked in with the most experienced and they are used to handling small dogs with attitude and was told to pay £15 deposit. I dropped the dog off at the appointment and the same employee gave me a muzzle, I told her it was far too big and needed a smaller one but she said it would be fine and she took my dog. 20 mins later I got a call from the same employer to say the muzzle was off and they wasn’t prepared to carry on. All they had done was wash the dog and partly started to dry her. I was told they wasn’t prepared to carry on and possibly be biten, (if the dog had been wearing the correct size muzzle it would not have come off) but would try and dry the back end of her if I held her outside in the waiting room, which I said don’t bother. They then proceeded to charge me another £18 for the partial bath. In total £33 for wash and only half dry. I have complained to customer services and the employee keeps saying that I removed the dog and that I made the decision to not put the muzzle back on. I have not been offered a resolution or partial refund just a load of lies and a wet dog for £33. The customer service team have been misled by their employer and will not consider even a partial refund.
PLEASE, PLEASE RECONSIDER when booking in at this dog groomers, they are inexperienced with handling dogs and will then constantly lie after about their actions when asked. They did not use an experienced groomer. Very very disappointed and upset at being made out that I am the liar.
Mersey retail Speke - doesn’t deserve one star even. Went today with 6.5 month dog for first proper cut as discussed at 3 previous puppy cuts. Young girl at the desk of the groomers who I’ve never seen smile, told me I hadn’t booked a cut I just a wash (I had booked cut), said she’d never seen me before when I said she had a bad attitude (she booked him in the last time after pulling his chin hair really hard) then when I asked for a refund of my deposit said I’d paid online so would take up to a week (I paid 4 weeks before by card in the shop)
Everything I said she denied - no apology for the mix up and the manager was just as bad. It was a very upsetting and embarrassing experience, Horrendous customer service - shocking.
If I could give a 1000 star review for the service I received at Shirley Pets at Home groomers, I would. My inherited Westie was in a sorry state when he entered the grooming room today. One and a half hours later, I picked up a happy, beautifully clean dog. Thank you SO much. Problem solved !
I was willing to give GroomRoom another chance. Back in 2018 I took my small, senior Cairn for a wash and cut. When I returned he was totally shaved almost down to the skin. It was awful, and my dog was traumatised. He tucked is tail into his VERY naked bottom and didn't move it for a month. He looked like a cat! When we got home his ran into a corner and stayed there for three days, it was awful. He was not cut to breed, just cut short everywhere, no skirt, or feathers. But I thought, now with my new Cairn, who is younger and used to shorter cuts (he came that way) I would take him there. I have been trying for days to register him, book online (web page refuses to complete), no one picks up, and no call backs after leaving messages. When I called Pets At Home for help about it, they told me to 'pop round ' and make an appointment! I can't just pop round - it's a drive away. What's the point of having an online registration and booking system that doesn't take bookings? And very poor customer service - I think from lack of briefing, rather than laziness. The agent actually asked me for the phone number! This whole thing has been shoddy and does not instil any confidence.
Awful groom, missed bits, ruined her breed cut, sat in boomers groomers where they're trying to fix this absolute disaster. Don't take your dog here they don't know what they're doing at all
If there were to be a no star rating this would be my score. My 8 yr old wire fox terrier went for full groom. I am new to the area so tried this place. Never write reviews, never had such an awful experience. The lady wasn’t familiar with the breed I explained about stripping but they declared no skills in this area. I agreed to a shave and informed the lady about how the pads, nails dew claws ears and face should look also explained that there should be no shaving of scrotum. I hv limited eyesight but my dog was tethered behind a high counter when I paid )before viewing him) . And have limited eye sight, My partner went ballistic when he saw the state our dog was in. He was shaking and in pain. We discovered four horrible nicks in the creases of his legs, his face ears and neck hadn’t been trimmed, his pads and nails hadn’t been trimmed and his tail was one third shaved so it looked like a top heavy poodle tail. His scrotum had been shaved and was red raw. Don’t visit this place for a good service-we guess that the more popular hybrid breeds could be happy with this amateur service. But we had a shaking traumatised dog looking ridiculous and had to take him to the vet for treatment on his cuts and rashes. A total waste of money.
Deep Dissatisfaction with the grooming services provided for my cockapoo. We booked her appointment two months in advance, only to have it cancelled a week prior without an apology. This lack of communication resulted in my dog having to endure an additional six weeks of discomfort during a particularly hot period.
Moreover, when my mother took her to the rescheduled appointment at 2 PM, the groomer arrived ten minutes late and offered no apology, citing a lengthy lunch instead. To top it off, the grooming outcome was far from satisfactory; my dog’s appearance after the grooming was extremely disappointing, akin to that of a shaved sheep. The grooming was so severe that it appeared as though I could have achieved the same result by shaving her myself.
Furthermore, I was particularly upset by the decision to shave my dog’s face and tail. Dogs are incredibly sensitive in those areas, and I believe such actions are inappropriate. My dog is my world, and ever since her grooming ordeal, she has seemed distressed and not her usual self.
I find it unacceptable that such lack of professionalism and care is exhibited in a service aimed at the well-being of animals. Based on this experience, we will not be returning for any future grooming services.
Took my 4 year old working cocker spaniel for her first ever groom,at the groom room Rawtenstall, I was asked what and how I wanted her grooming, I asked they do what felt best was. Went back hour and half later and my girl Daisy looked amazing, fantastic job from her coat to her paws and nails
Danielle is lovely, polite and caring. I have a 12 year old shih Tzu and sometimes he has his moments and can be very temperamental. Danielle is always patient and friendly, very professional and also very caring. She is the reason why I take my dog to Groom Room Borehamwood.
Took my dogs today for a groom and both of them are quite pully on the lead through excitement. The woman on reception takes SO long filling out paperwork about what you want your dog to look like (even though I had already filled this out when I booked it!) when she could see I was clearly struggling to keep my dogs calm. I was stood at least 10 minutes waiting for her filling out a form. Then she wouldn’t take payment whilst my dogs were still being groomed on collection and served someone else instead. Rude and rubbish service. Dogs never ready on time and the woman on reception is so slow it’s ridiculous.
⭐ One Star – Very Poor Experience at Pets at Home Groom Room, Consett
I’ve used the Groom Room in Consett multiple times, but unfortunately, the service has gone steadily downhill. I won’t be returning, and I’d advise others to look elsewhere.
They’ve frequently tried to reschedule or cancel appointments at the last minute, even after I’ve waited weeks. I’ve usually gone along with this, but on the most recent occasion, I said no – I had planned around the original time and couldn’t do the new one due to work. Their response was to tell me that someone was having to change their day off to accommodate me, which felt unfair and a bit of a guilt trip. While I appreciate scheduling can be tricky, I don’t believe it should fall on the customer to fix it.
Another time, they cut inches off my spaniel’s ears without asking. I hadn’t requested this, and it looked terrible. I’m not sure if the groomer was new or simply misunderstood the brief, but either way, it was disappointing and not what I had booked.
On my recent visit, things got worse. I asked for the same service I’d had previously (shaving between the paws which had always been included in the “3 for £7” offer), but was told that that wouldn’t have been the case (it was) and I had to pay £15 for an “essential package.” I didn’t need some of what was included (like nail clipping), But was told it was the only way to get between their toes shaved. I also had to pay extra to remove a few small matts (£5) which I’ve never been charged for before - but I accepted. This was only to discover one of the matts was still there when I got home.
When I raised concerns pets at home customer service, they were slow to respond and unhelpful. By the time they replied, I had already removed the matt myself, and they wanted photo evidence despite the delay. I also asked where the package definitions were listed, since nothing seemed clear at booking or in store, but wasn’t given an answer.
To add to all this, one of my dogs developed a nail infection shortly after the visit. I can’t say for certain it was caused by the nail trim (which I didn’t ask for), but it’s worth mentioning.
And finally – after all of this – they asked me to leave a five-star review.
In short, this branch has become disorganised, unwelcoming, inconsistent, and lacks transparency. Not recommended.
Thinking of book a groom - don’t bother, they have cancelled 2 appointments in a row, and the next available ones are months away.
Didn’t find out that the second one was cancelled until I drove to the place and waited for 10 minutes until they got round to telling me. I can’t think of a worse service. The dog is now desperate for a groom
We had our cockapoos groom done at the oldham groom room.
To say we are disappointed is a understatement
She has come back with loads of different lengths of hair. Her nose has 4 steps in it from the shaver. She also has 2 marks under her hair which I can only assume is done with the shaver. Our original appointment was booked for the previous Friday. When we got there on the Friday we was 10 mins late and was told we wouldn't be able to have her done that day has it would take over 2hrs. We accept this and re booked. But getting back to the groom. I can honestly say that if I had done it myself I would have probably done a better job. And iv never cut hair in my life.
I can only say avoid this place. Considering we have been here lots of times over the years we will never go back again.
Oldham groom room has always done okay grooms for our cockapoo but this last time was terrible the appointment was 4.30-6pm on Tuesday.
When I collected her she was still slightly damp but I didn’t take a good look at her until we got home.
Our cockapoos coat was all different lengths even a long chunk of fur sticking out on her back her nose had deep steps that still look terrible the ears look terrible, basically looks like someone very unqualified or in a massive rush hacked at her so they can finish work on time at 6pm, she didn’t even have that nice smell that she should have after a groom. Now we are finding that she is scratching a lot causing eat her to scab in places this could be that the shampoo hadn’t been rinsed properly. NEVER AGAIN!!
I have been using the Groom Room (Bletchley) for years. Always satisfied with the groom.
She takes such care and attention over my nervous schnoodle. She is so welcoming and friendly.
I always arrive early to pick him up and stay hidden so he won't see me and he looks really relaxed. Thank you.
My next two grooms are already booked in.
I would even put 1 star up but it gives you no choice. Now I have been going to the groom room Staines for nearly 3 years. Unfortunately the amazing tiana who cut my dogs hair left a few months ago. Now I took lady to Josh last Sunday for a full groom. When I picked her up he explained he cudnt cut her ears and would charge me for it. When I got home and took her harness off she hadn’t been cut properly patchy all over. I went back into see him and he apologised and said he was stressed. He said bring her in Friday as in today 4th July and he would try again. So I did this and also spoke to the manager about what had happened. Now much to my horror Josh is not qualified or allowed to cut dogs hair only allowed to wash!!!! Why on earth would anyone do this. I am disgusted that he thought he could get away with this. And how many other dogs has he been doing this too. Never again would I go back.
Disappointed this time. We had a full groom on our dog on Tues 1st July, his tail was left looking partly done, they've clipped his skin tag on his groin and you can see exactly where they have sheared him(lines through his fur). His appointment was at 9am, we were running slightly late, the lady called my husband at 09.03 to say if my dog wasn't there by 09.15 he wouldn't be able to have a full groom( which is fair enough) he was there for 09.15 and the lady called my husband again and said our dog would not be able to have a full groom, we have used Pets at home for the past few years, they have always said max time is 1 hour 45 minutes, she then said it would take x2 hours, and guess what, I received a call to pick him up early because he was all finished ( no wounder why, it looks rushed) will not use again.
