"Documented Cancellation, 7 Unauthorized Billing Attempts, and 4 Months to Resolve: Avoid Crunch Fitness
In November 2025, Crunch raised my monthly rate without any advance notice. When I tried to review my membership contract to understand what I had agreed to, their website was broken and the contract was inaccessible.
I reached out by email for answers, to flag the broken website (when I checked back a couple of months later they still had not fixed it), and after getting no help with either, to cancel. The Crunch Assistant General Manager told me by email that cancellations required an in-person visit or written cancelation request by mail and then stopped responding entirely. As you will see, Crunch apparently does not read its mail for months at a time...
I went in person. At the desk, I was told I would have to pay out the remainder of a full year upfront to cancel immediately, which was never mentioned when they instructed me to come in person or cancel by mail. I refused. After pushback, the employee backed down and processed the cancellation. I left with a printed confirmation (which I had to push for, and I'm glad I did): account canceled, $0 balance.
Ten minutes later, after I had left, Crunch attempted to charge my card $107.91. Over the next three months, they attempted six more charges ranging from $11.99 to $40.97.
I filed complaints with the Oregon Department of Justice, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the Better Business Bureau. Crunch ignored all of them. Both the DOJ and BBB closed their complaints out entirely due to Crunch's non-response. I sent certified letters to the Beaverton location and corporate New York in December 2025. Those sat ignored for months until someone finally emailed me in March 2026 to say they had just seen my letter. That is what canceling by mail would have looked like.
Four months after a documented cancellation with a printed $0 balance confirmation, I finally got written acknowledgment that the account was closed and nothing was owed.
Read the other reviews here and all over the internet. This is not a one-off. Every step of this process, from the unannounced rate hike, to the broken website, to the hidden cancellation fee, to the months of unauthorized billing attempts, to threats of sending you to collections, was designed to either extract money or wear you down until you give up. It is stunning this business is still operating. Or is allowed to.
Document everything before you ever set foot in this gym. Better yet: don't.
BEWARE: I paid for several months of individual training at Crunch East Cobb, before ending training. I went in to cancel the training and they said that there were some issues with the cancellation since they were moving over to iPads, but the manager on duty promised it would go through and be taken care of. Two months later charges for training sessions started showing up on my credit card. Crunch charged me well over $1000 before I got them to stop charging. They admitted on the phone that the overcharge was a computer error, but were careful to not put it in writing. After multiple calls and visits I was informed that they were unwilling to refund my money, despite having provided ZERO services for the money they charged me. If you HAVE to use Crunch Fitness you better CHECK your cards and bank accounts every month.
Today I went to the gym in Forney at 8:13 am and I have one of the most horrible experience in any Bussisness as a customer ever. I paid for my VIP membership wish include all the amenities in the club, but been new I didn’t know that to join the classes you would have to doit 22 hours in advance, when I was set up in one of the bikes the class was to starting I heard that everyone has to have a hand bracelet so I went in front and the person customer service under the name of lily’s she told if I didn’t booked online I would be in a waiting list so she told me to wait, while I was waiting I was seeing the irregularities of she giving others the opportunity to go to the class over me that I was waiting an about half on hour, but the worst part was whe she was laughing and mocking me in front of other people because intentionally she was denied me going and join the class. To the point that a witness that she gave her the last bracelet wish was not happy how she was caring her self called the manager and lilys the disrespectful customer service give us her back not apologizing for her action of bulling me because of my accent and raise not letting not enjoy the spinning class.
Stephanie the instructor for the Hot Yoga Flow did such a great job doing my class that I will be back!! She is encouraging, nice, helps us feel comfortable and gives no judgement. Patient with us! Or me i should say
I have been with Crunch since this location opened. I usually have no issues and enjoy the amenities overall. I had an accident recently and fractured my ankle and will not be able to come to the gym for several weeks.
I called this morning 05/01/26 at 8:30 AM into my location at Gainesville Georgia to work with them to cancel my membership and was told I needed to come in to sign something. I informed the manager on duty that I cannot come in due to the broke ankle and she said that I would need to mail in a letter to cancel. I again explained I cannot mail anything physically right now but I could email the request. I was then told "They tried to make that work in the past but it didn't end up working." Which really doesn't make sense as physical mail is a more inconvenient and indirect form of communication. I asked to speak to another manager and was told one would not be in for two hours. I then asked if I could leave my information and get a call back regarding the matter and the response was "I can take your information but there is no guarantee they will call you back." When I asked why I was told that they just get busy. I stated I would then call back in a couple hours and the manager responded "Okay" and proceeded to hang up on me.
I then called back and asked for the managers name and was told I couldn't have this by the front desk person "Yesinia Santana." I asked to speak to the manager again and was put on hold then hung up on again.
The last couple weeks since I broke this ankle have been painful and emotionally tolling. I believe an exception to cancel my membership via email is warranted. I was respectful and just wanted to ask someone higher who could approve this request and the customer service I received was unacceptable.
Friends do not sign up with crunch fitness this place is a 100% scam I did not even go inside they changed me 160$ I worked so hard my one week pay check took it service I did not use and I just got a call on my phone just now debt collector telling me they want 260 ???? What is going on so please stay away from this place I work or call these places total mind boggling how can they do that they can see if someone is coming inside or not if they don't see the person in a month atleast call them stay in touch thru email or phone call what kind of responsible business is this friends stay away from crunch fitness reason I am writing this so you do not have to go thru this thank you for reading..
Worst experience with a gym membership. The app doesn't update for 30 days if you get a new phone and you can even see the person you have as a friend in the app. They charge me a late fee when the monthly fee didn't go through because my credit card expired and all the had to do is send an email or text to alert me and they didn't. NO OTHER COMPANY I DEAL WITH CHARGES LATE FEE .THEY SEND YOU A NOTIFICATION TO UPDATE YOUR CARD INFO.
Other gyms give you 1 hour for a $180 monthly personal trainer. Crunch only does 30 minutes.
Very unpleased with my experience at crunch walker mi
I did not have a good experience going to crunch in Walker MI. When I signed up, I was told that they had a good deal of 10 dollars per month. However, after asking many questions about this offer, they never once told me I had a contract to stay there for a year. If I had known that I would have not signed up because I knew beforehand that I would be moving away. When I tried to end my membership, I had to call 5 times and every time they would ask me if I had emailed the right email. And to re email and to wait for a response and that the manager would reply in a day or two. Finally when I got a response after 30 days, they had told me I was on a year long contract, and that I would have to pay back 80 dollars. Overall I am not pleased with my experience at crunch as it was extremely difficult to end my membership and decieved of knowing that I signed up for a year long contract.
Horrible experience with this gym. I had a yearly membership with them. When I asked the staff what I needed to do since I was moving out of town, they told me all I needed to do was wait for the yearly membership to expire and the account would terminate. Turns out it didn't and they began charging me monthly, plus their 55$ annual fee. When I saw the charge I immediately called to cancel. Couldn't cancel over the phone had to show up in person, after moving away. To top of off they charged me for the next month as well to cancel. So I ended up having to pay over 140$ to cancel, otherwise they threatened to send me to collections.
I would not recommend this gym at all. In fact I will make sure I let everyone I know what horrible experience I had at Crunch fitness. They told me that $1 would lock in pre opening prices. Once the club opened I could come in and select a membership. Well I decided not to join, not realizing that I already signed up for a membership. To a club that was not open yet. So I could not even see it. I start getting billed, and of course there isn’t any special pricing. The club is 1 1/2 hrs away from me. I called and try to cancel. But they tell me I have to drive the 1 1/2 there to cancel. They also tell me I have to pay 3 months plus there yearly membership fee. Also when I explained what the salesperson told me. They knew exactly who it was and they had received several similar complaints. But sorry about your bad luck. Zero caring. Zero customer support.
The experience has just been awful in multiple counties and even in multiple states there’s no escaping it. I’m not sure how the training is done at this fitness center for the staff but it’s really horrendous. If the customer makes any suggestion to make the gym better or any feedback - they’ll make you feel bad for it - I’ll just never suggest anything ever again to crunch fitness. It wasn’t even a negative thing either. Then going in different states it’s also horrendous if that is not your home gym. 0/10 experience respectfully planet fitness customer service is so much better. $35 for absolutely garbage service. At least the cancellation was EZ that’s a relief. Never again I promise
Peak membership waste of money. Impossible to get into classes. "Extras" like massagers cam only be used for 10 min, which does nothing - total waste- and the massage equipment is sub-par. Locker rooms are too small with nowhere to sit. People wearing shoes into the sauna. Gym too small for # of members...impossible to get on machines or cardio equipment if you work an 8-5 job. Scam annual fee and if you downgrade you get charged a fee and charged another annual fee plus if you want the basic you have to have annual contract. You have to give them your first born vhild to cancel your membership. NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY OR HASSLE. Find a different gym.
Be aware of the 3 months commitment when signing up. I told the front desk I was in town for the week and only needed a month and they mentioned nothing about having to pay 3 months and the annual fee. Now I'm out $152 for 1 week of gym use.
Update : I was charged again today $29.30 despite canceling and receiving a confirmation back in February. When I called the gym I was placed on hold for over an hour and when finally speaking to the manger who was very rude, I was told that the employee who filled out the cancellation did it wrong and I would still have to pay. Absolute dumpster fire for management here. Do yourself a favor and sign up to literally any other gym.
Signed up for training, there trainer would show up late or cancel on the same day. Crunch Fired employee, at this time I wanted to cancel my training. They told me I could not cancel without paying the 900 balance on my contract. I'm familiar with how gyms work so I paid the 900 and ended my contract. This was 02/17 2026 when I paid the 900 balance on my contract to end my training. I was then charged 150 on 04/16, 04/13 and on 04/20. I called on 04/17 and they said they would call back but didn't. I called 04/18 and they told me the manager was in a training session and would call me back shortly and that did not happen. I called on 4/20 and was told I would get a call back. On 04/20 their manager called me back and first stated that my training renewed and I needed to send copies on my statement to prove I was charged. Before I could send the statements, he called me back and stated I still owed the 450 and that's why they charged me on the 3 separate occasions. The total of my sessions was 1800 but according to my statements I was charged 2250. I told him I could bring my statements to show I was over charged and he told me there was nothing he could do. I asked could I speak to someone above him and he told me he was not allowed to give out anyone's information or contact info. I reached out to the better business bureau and of course there not register with the better business bureau. I'm currently researching how I would be able to contact a higher up so I can send the proof I need to get my refund. I would not recommend doing business with this company. I would not recommend doing business with this company
55y.o. man here who has worked out in gyms all over the country and all over the world. The fact that I’m taking time to write this is an indication of how horrible Crunch on East Colonial Downtown is. I joined about 6 weeks ago and cancelled today. It does not matter what time you go to the gym, the bathroom and locker room will be closed off for cleaning with a line of people standing outside waiting to get in. Crunch does not respect any customers time, to them you are not a customer. The bathrooms are closed 45 min to an hour at a time at least twice a day. It does not matter if your personal belongings are in the bathroom/locker room, they will block you from going in and they don’t care if you have to get to work or school. Their people literally yell, and when I say yell, I mean YELL at you to get out of the locker room if it’s time for cleaning. They respect no one one’s time. And let’s talk about cleanliness and the lack thereof. Soap dispensers always empty and often missing altogether, ripped off the wall, feces in the toilet, doors ripped off of lockers. Filthy wet floors with wet toilet paper everywhere. And then the equipment: much of it is jerky and in disrepair. But the worst part is they think it is perfectly ok for moms who managed to carve an hour out of their day to go do something nice for themselves and workout, and then they can’t use the locker room and change clothes. They think this is normal and ok. This has never happened in any other gym in the country or the world that I have worked out in. And their people have the balls to scream at you like you’re a child if you run into the locker room to get your stuff out so you can get to work. Membership cancelled. You get what you pay for. My advice, pay a little extra and drive 5 minutes longer and go somewhere that you will be treated like the paying customer you are, Crunch has no concept of this. And if anyone from Crunch is reading this, don’t bother reaching out or responding, you guys need to be shut down and start over.
I canceled my personal training on January 27 and paid the final $116 on February 20. However, I was later charged the same amount again on March 8, March 20, and April 3.
I’ve sent several emails and called multiple times to try to resolve this, but it’s been very difficult to get in touch, I’ve had to call repeatedly throughout the day just to reach someone. I was able to speak with a coordinator once, who mentioned I would be reimbursed, but I haven’t received any update since.
Just sharing my experience so others are aware and can keep an eye on their billing.

I was told by HR that this location is being investigated for my case, and looking at the pattern in these reviews, I wouldn't be surprised if others were going through the exact same thing. I escalated this, and accountability is finally coming.
Don't bother arguing with local management. In my experience, it was a waste of time because they boldly claimed they had absolutely no record of me ever contacting them. You need to email their superiors to force a paper trail.
MY EXPERIENCE:
I went through this for 6 months and lost hundreds of dollars. I am permanently disabled and called within my first two weeks to cancel. They demanded a certified letter. A corporate policy does NOT override state and federal law. If they have a problem with their own policy, that is their problem. The franchise has the power to change it; it's not our problem. Certainly not one that should cost us financially.
They took hundreds of dollars from me over 6 months while I called and emailed countless times, only for them to boldly deny it ever happened.
Instead of helping, management hid their employee contact info, refused to give me their employee IDs so I could officially complain, and made a poor clerk at the front desk call to handle it.
They offered an ultimatum: they would cancel my membership as a "courtesy," but they were going to keep my money. It was that or nothing at all.
I told them I'm not the one to play with. I had to do all the research on my own, but I finally bypassed the local gym entirely, emailed corporate, got the policy canceled, and got my money back. Those hundreds of dollars may mean nothing to someone who owns a local franchise, but it's a lot to everyday folks living check to check and supporting themselves and families.
KNOW THE LAW & CREATE A DIGITAL PAPER TRAIL (Quote this in your emails):
ADA Title III (Americans with Disabilities Act):
Refusing a reasonable modification (like an electronic or phone cancellation) for a permanently disabled person is direct, actionable discrimination. Corporate policies do not supersede federal civil rights laws.
FTC Negative Option Rule:
Even if you are not disabled, if you signed up online, federal law dictates you should be able to easily cancel online without coming into the facility.
Mississippi Code § 75-83-3:
Health spas are required to hold a $25,000 surety bond with the state to protect consumers against dishonesty and failure to provide services.
In my personal opinion, I am not surprised by how they acted, given the other reviews for this location. Another reviewer recently wrote:
"0/10 do not recommend. If i could give negative stars I would. They finally canceled my policy after months of telling me they couldn’t cancel because of my balance. It took months of me sending them letters explaining that i was unable to use the membership anymore because of medical reasons... Crunch is not run by honest individuals. For the life of me I will never understand how moral bankruptcy someone has to be to lie to people repeatedly. Scary world we live in."
I completely agree. I can't help but wonder how many other people have gone through something similar. If this review helps someone else, it's worth it.
Email corporate, quote the statutes, and get your money back!
And for the record: it is not slander if it is the truth.
P.S. I already told their superiors they are NOT to contact me again, so don't bother replying to this review. Your actions speak for themselves.
After joining Crunch Fitness I started working with a personal trainer and continued for several months. The trainer I worked with was promoted and was going to move to OKC to open a new Crunch Fitness. I had already prepaid for the training, and he advised that we could get them completed before he left. A month after he moved to OKC, my wife noticed that we were still being billed for personal training. I spoke with the Manager, Kimberly Gardner, and she told me that she couldn't do anything about it because I "didn't sign anything official". I left and spoke to my trainer again, and he said that this was "not true, I was on a Flex Plan, and he would take care of it". Long story short...Kimberly refused to refund me. I asked to speak with her supervisor, and she claimed she was at the top. I informed her that that would be my last month and she acted as if she could care less. It's Manager's like Kimberly that give gyms a bad reputation.
I signed up for the free month try out. Ended up never going, decided to stick with Planet Fitness. When my free month was up I tried canceling. They wanted 100$ to cancel. The calls and texts and emails are egregious. Will never suggest to anyone even though I never stepped foot in one.
How can this company have no corporate customer service? After putting my daughter’s membership on hold for medical reasons, I called her local gym to extend again and was told ok. Later that month I received a bill and when I called I was told corporate denied this request and I now had to pay an additional month when I cancelled. The local gym has no authority to assist and there is no corporate email or phone number. I guess we know where we won’t be joining again.
