What reviewers say

AI generated

Most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Customers frequently mention that the staff members are exceptionally friendly, patient, and professional when handling anxious pets. Consumers find the appointment booking process very straightforward, and many are thoroughly impressed by how smart and clean their dogs look after a grooming session. Some reviewers were not happy with significant price increases, unexpected extra charges, and feeling like they did not receive good value for their money. A few other people also felt that staff members could be impolite, lacking proper communication, or occasionally handling pets in a less gentle manner during appointments.

Appalling service AVOID altrincham

Absolutely appalling at Altrincham, I’d booked my miniature poodle in for a second puppy groom, When my daughter (21) went to pick her up the groomer said she won’t let me cut her nails or dry her and won’t let me use the clippers on her bum, so basically she had washed her and trim her eyes, this is Friday and I’ve now booked her in at another groomers for Monday to be done properly, her eyes are a mess and some patchy bits on her head, when I spoke to Alayna at the groom room Altrincham she said Betsy tried biting her and when I asked if she was trained to do puppy’s as they need to learn that grooming is a good experience her reply was we can’t be trained in all scenarios, to me this means she isn’t qualified, when I questioned the biting she said well she did bite me, I said but you said she tried to bite you so which one is the truth and which is the lie because if my dog bit you I need to know that, well yes she did bite me so I then said so you lied to me saying she tried to bite you !!! So now I don’t believe she did actually you, my dog is bathed once a week and I cut her nails so I’m unsure why she wouldn’t let Alayna cut them ? Maybe as she not confident in her job !!! Overall terrible service which cost me $30 for them to bath my dog which I do anyway.

Caring and helpful

We have rescued our 3 1/2yr old frenchie girl 2 weeks ago, obviously not knowing if she had been bathed/washed before we tried Havant s groom room. They rang us after 20/25 mins to say she was terrified of water and it’s not worth scaring her anymore or trying to dry her. So we went to collect her and the lady explained and advised the next steps we should take regarding bathing her. Thank you so much for the caring attention you gave our baby girl x

Didn't shampoo on 2 occasions

I have taken my dog to The Groom Room in Altrincham and paid £65 and £55 to have the top groom and standard groom where shampoo and dry are included in the price as well as ears cleaned and on both occasions this DID NOT happen!!! When I pay for a service I expect a full service I paid for and not half a job!!! I'm fuming!!

Had an appointment today at the Epsom…

Had an appointment today at the Epsom branch which had already been cancelled the previous week, when i got there it was closed and a member of staff in the pets at home store said they had all left and haven’t found replacements yet,i had a reminder for this appointment so was extremely annoyed to find this out when i got there.

We didn't even stay for out…

We didn't even stay for our appointment. Not even greated with a proper hello. Grunted at I would say. The person was grooming a little dog and she was huffing and puffing and moaning all while pulling this little dogs leg. That was it for us. This would be our dogs first groom and there was no way we were going to leave him with them. Absolutely shocking attitude.

Took my sheepadoodle for her first time…

Took my sheepadoodle for her first time grooming at Pets at home at Pool in Cornwall. She is a very nervous dog and quite large dog to handle. Her groomer Emma was amazing. I couldn't rate her higher as she has done such an excellent job on my dog who had a very difficult coat to cope with. My dog came away feeling happy and me too. Great thanks to Emma x

Disappointed with customer service, or should I say lack of it

Can't write much on this review as we never actually got to see a staff member. We took our greyhound to Kings Lynn Pets At Home to get her nails clipped after reading on their website that no appointment required, 'just walk in'. Well we couldn't just walk in as the door was locked despite a staff member being inside the Groom Room. We then pressed what we assumed was bell on two occasions, but the staff member never even looked round to see us standing at the window waiting. No we were very disappointed with their customer service, or should I say lack of it, especially as we had travelled around 16 miles especially to have our pet's nails clipped.

Lovely staff & smart cut

Took our ESP for a first cut at Stratford on Avon. He was nervous due to a previous bad experience with another groomer, the young lady who groomed our boy was so kind and thoughtful, she reassured him. I was a little apprehensive, but having had a chat with her she put me at ease too. She listened and our boy looks so smart with his short cut.

Genevieve at the Spalding branch…

Genevieve at the Spalding branch groomed my very elderly mixed bread dog today. She has not worked for this branch very long and I got the impression she is newly trained. My old boy was cut exactly as I asked, because it was her first time grooming my dog, she said she would take her time and said what time she expected to finish. She was good to her word and he was completely finished on time. He looked like he thoroughly enjoyed himself and had a good experience. I am very happy with everything she did. This is about the 8th or 9th time I have used this branch and I know they have had problems with staff recruitment and retention so I hope they keep this lovely lady for a long time. I am more than happy to book him in again. I do think they are expensive and the pricing is not at all clear and they seem constantly under-staffed. Also the booking and computer system is slow and outdated. These issues, and many more, lay with the company itself and nothing to do with the groomers so I think The Groom Room head office need to listen and change the working practises and ethics to succeed. After reading a lot of recent reviews I think this company needs to change how they train their staff, how they treat their staff and how to get the best from their staff. Rant over! Overall I would recommend the Spalding Branch and am very happy with Genevieve and her work.

AVOID if you love your dog

AVOID if you love your dog . our puppy was traumatised and shaved to virtually nothing .. he had inner ear trauma where the hair had been pulled from his ears and it has cost us 500 pounds in vets bills …. Horrible experience and charged more than advertised .. this is an awful salon and does not care for the pets .. grooming should NOT damage their bodies or personality…

PRICE HIKES ARE RIDICULOUS!

I used the Groom Room for several years and they generally did an excellent job. In the past, they also offered a free groom voucher, which was a nice incentive. Unfortunately, this has now changed to a half-price voucher, and prices have increased significantly. Last year I paid £56 for a groom for my medium-sized dog, and when I went to book our usual three-monthly appointment, the price had risen again to £68. Sadly, due to these ongoing price increases, we won’t be returning.

Avoid at all cost if you love your pet

If I could. I would give 0 stars. Where to start where these jokers. First off. None of the prices are listed properly. When I called to ask why they told my partner it would cost £70 (on top of the £15 deposit which adds up to £85), they said it was an estimate because it was between 60-65 which is listed. Which may I add. It wasn’t. And then they had a cheek to say my dog was severely matted when I know for a fact he wasn’t as I had only just brushed his fur that morning. The only thing he had was long fur as his groomer is on maternity leave and I’m too pregnant to be trying to bathe and cut his fur. They made it sound like I’ve been negelcting him. Even when I haven’t. So I said it was a scam and that I wanted to come and get him, they refused and said I couldn’t because it had already started. The staff are rude as when we went to pick my dog up, the receptionist was giving me dirty looks, because I told them straight over the phone that it’s a disgrace and they scam people out of money. I specifically said I didn’t want my dog bald. Which is what they ended up doing to him, and left his tail alone. They didn’t even do a good job as he still had long pieces of fur all over. When I got him back. He couldn’t run out of there quick enough. And today. He has been withdrawn to which I have now noticed he is in pain from his bottom areas when they shaved off a scab as he has allergies. It also looks like a little bruise has formed on his belly. She also DRAGGED my dog into the salon because he’s a very nervous and skittish dog with new people considering he has one eye and is a rescue dog. Never again will I subject my dog to whatever abuse these scumbags caused. And may I advise you to do the same. He’s been non stop scratching since he left there. And from other reviews. Wouldnt surprise me if he got fleas from that place. It needs to be shut down

Customer service is absolutely…

Customer service is absolutely appalling. Our dog was cut completely different from requested and looks nothing like our dog, despite having multiple cuts there previously to the same description. We were rang to be advised that his legs would need cutting shorter due to matting (we knew about this it was a small patch on one back leg) but At no point were we advised that his face would also be cut and he was shaved right down all over. When making a complaint about this and also the cost as we had paid for a “teddy bear cut” the advisor was really unapproachable not understanding and simply said you pay for the time slot and would not offer any compensation. We then emailed customer service multiple times who then took A MONTH to “investigate” who then said that we had signed the waiver so there’s nothing they could do! Is this your way around customer service? Absolutely appalling. Our dog looks nothing like our dog and has had comments from everyone who knows him (daycare family etc) saying how awful he looks. And now we have to wait MONTHS until his face will regrow! the groom room and head office couldn’t care less. They have their money and that’s all they clearly care about.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely amazing experience – thank you Kels & Sophie! I cannot recommend Kels and Sophie at the Pets at Home Groom Room, Sturry Road (Canterbury) enough. They truly went above and beyond when grooming my toy poodle, Teddy. From start to finish, they were so kind, gentle, and reassuring. Teddy is usually quite anxious with grooming, but for the first time ever this was a really lovely, calm, and positive experience for him. They clearly took the time to understand him, made him feel safe, and treated him with so much care and patience. His groom was done beautifully — he looked absolutely gorgeous, clean, perfectly styled, and clearly comfortable. Their attention to detail and level of care was outstanding. Both Kels and Sophie were very, very professional, and you can instantly tell they genuinely love what they do. I’m actually from Birmingham, and I would absolutely travel all this way again just to have Teddy groomed by them. That alone says everything. I honestly can’t thank them enough or give them enough credit — it means the world knowing my dog was so well looked after. We will 100% be returning and recommending them to everyone we know. Thank you again for taking such amazing care of Teddy 🐶💙
