Most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Customers frequently mention that the staff members are exceptionally friendly, patient, and professional when handling anxious pets. Consumers find the appointment booking process very straightforward, and many are thoroughly impressed by how smart and clean their dogs look after a grooming session.
Some reviewers were not happy with significant price increases, unexpected extra charges, and feeling like they did not receive good value for their money. A few other people also felt that staff members could be impolite, lacking proper communication, or occasionally handling pets in a less gentle manner during appointments.

Extremely patient with my pet dogs having their nails clipped as they are so anxious. However the girl who is covered in tattoos I found to be extremely rude, not friendly at all. She had no manners whilst talking to myself, she made both me and my mum feel very uncomfortable. When I mentioned how anxious my dogs are she stated it will cost more if 2 of us have to assist your dog!
I couldn’t believe her attitude and tone whilst saying this. I would have paid any price as long as my dogs were happy and safe.
I was trying to distract my dog whilst she was having her nails clipped by talking to my dog through the glass window, and gently tapping the window. The girl with the tattoos spoke to me in a rude and aggressive manner asking me to stop tapping the window. I understand her reasoning behind it, but her mannerisms, and attitude was awful!
I always come here to have my dogs groomed and nails clipped but I will not be returning again due to this girl. Absolutely disgusting
Specifically Stratford upon Avon. Utter disgrace of a business, on multiple occasions they have changed my appointment last minute, booked me in on a date and time that the store is closed, lost one of my pets details and not honoured the booking, the final straw was today due to traffic I was 5 mins late, I messaged the store to tell them but they refused to do the groom.
Ist time visit, our dog millie a malchi ,was so nervous I nearly cancelled, but the lady I spoke to put millie and myself at ease,we left the dog there and on time recieved phone call to pick millie up. Wow!!she looked fantastic and was sitting on the groomers lap.we were very pleased with the groomers work ,and very pleased with the price. We have booked her next cut and I would recommend to everyone, one happy customer and well groomed dog, woof!! Woof!!
Basically if you have a large breed don’t go there. We have a long hair American Akita. Second time taking him there , as we thought we would give them a second chance, second time he came back to us half finished and still wet. This is after waiting 2 hours. They should just say they can’t do large dogs , which they obviously can’t. And the staff, well people skills 4/10.
Extremely unhappy with the grooming service we received from Pets at Home.
From the start, my dog was clearly uncomfortable and did not want to enter the salon, yet he was dragged across the floor instead of being handled with care. After the groom, he was still dirty, his nails had not been cut, and the haircut itself was very patchy and poorly done. Despite paying £65 for a full groom, this is absolutely not what we received.
The staff also failed to read the notes on the booking, then blamed a lack of time for not completing the groom properly. On top of this, the groomers were rude and referred to my dog as “nasty” and “naughty,” which I found completely unacceptable and unprofessional.
We also received unprofessionally worded messages only an hour before the appointment regarding the time they had booked him in for, adding unnecessary stress to an already unpleasant experience.
Overall, we were left feeling unwelcome and very disappointed. We will not be returning and would not recommend their grooming services to anyone.
Very supportive of my client who has communication difficulties
I am a speech therapist and accompanied a client to the Newport Road Cardiff branch today (22nd December 2025). My client has difficulty communicating but the staff were exceptionally helpful and supportive as he attempted to book his dog in for grooming. I only caught the name of Libby but all staff were careful to allow him time to find and articulate the right words. I was very impressed by the high standard of customer care and support. Highly recommend
I’m leaving this review as I am so disgusted with how my dog has been treated today at the Peterborough bretton groom room.
When going back to collect him from his appointment he was muzzled, with a lead around his neck which was tight and uncomfortable and he was clearly very distressed. As we arrived to get him, the lady was cleaning his ears and was being extremely rough with him.
I asked why he was muzzled as he has never worn a muzzle in his life, she claimed he had gone for her twice (which I’m not surprised he did after seeing how rough and totally dismissive the lady was being to how distressed he seemed).
My dog is the softest dog and has never gone for anyone.
I feel truly heart broken that he was treated the way he was, I for sure will never be taking him back.
The lady’s clearly couldn’t care about the dogs well being.
To make all of this worse I had my two young children with me who were very upset to see him muzzled and tied up!!!
Absolutely appalling incompetence from the staff at Bretton Pets at Home – Groom Room today (23rd December 2025). Our dog was subjected to extremely rough and unacceptable treatment — nothing any animal should ever have to endure.
We booked him in for what was supposed to be a professional groom, but it was obvious the staff were more concerned with rushing the job than showing even the most basic level of care. Our dog is exceptionally calm and placid, yet he was treated in a way that left him clearly traumatised.
He was muzzled unnecessarily, had a lead tightened around his neck to the point it looked close to strangulation — despite us providing a harness — and was clearly mishandled in a way that has left him frightened and distressed. Whatever happened behind closed doors was completely unacceptable.
This experience has been so upsetting that we will never use the Groom Room or Pets at Home again. We will also be strongly advising friends and family to avoid these companies entirely when it comes to the care of their pets. No animal should ever be treated this way.
Must be a change of staff?? After 5yrs of taking my border collie and two other dogs before this one I am no longer using the groom room!
Collected my dog today…to be told next time I take him he will need to be sedated…..I THINK NOT! NEVER have I had a problem with him, only a couple occasions of not liking the hair dryer which is understandable.
No no…this time I was told he was unruly, took THREE of them to restrain him to get his nails ‘trimmed’ which they didn’t touch by the way and he peed himself and went to bite one! I’m not surprised!! Do these idiots get trained to deal with dogs or are they lucky enough to have EVERY dog go in and sit and wait to do as they’re told by a stranger.
So angry I’ve had to leave this bad review but will not be paying £45 for half a job and be told my dog needs to be sedated because of their incompetence!!!!
Extremely Disappointed – Worst Grooming Experience in 20 Years
With the closure of The Groom Room in Brooklands, I moved my Old English Sheepdog’s regular grooming to The Groom Room in Walton-on-Thames.
I brought my dog in for a wash and clip and even showed the team a photo of the exact cut I wanted — the same photo that appears on my Pets at Home account. The groomers were busy with another OES, so I left him in their care and was asked to come back later.
When I returned (after a call telling me he was ready) , my dog was clearly distressed and still not clipped. I was told that he had been upset throughout the session. I was already unhappy with how he looked, especially his tail, but was told they were already past closing time.
Once I got him home, it became even more obvious how poorly he had been groomed. Several patches were shaved right down to the skin, leaving pink areas, and large clumps of hair were left untouched. His paws were a mess, and his undercarriage was still thick with hair — overall, a completely unacceptable cut.
I then took him to another groomer, who confirmed that he had been badly clipped, with some areas cut in the wrong direction and signs of clipper burn — which explained his distress. She spent over an hour trying to fix the mistakes on his feet, ears, undercarriage, tail, chest, and more.
I’ve owned four Old English Sheepdogs over the past twenty years, and this was by far the worst grooming any of them have ever received.
Absolutely disappointed. Tried to change my small dog a medium, price do medium is £65 however thy bumped it up to £85 and said “his ear has a knot in it” we asked to see the knot, they couldn’t show us or tell us where about it was. They then tried to make us pay the full price even tho I paid deposit. They didn’t follow the instructions on what cut we wanted, instead cut my dog very short and didn’t do the teddy bear cut. Absolutely useless and scammers, trying to get extra money. No one will return my calls.
Ive taken my Shih Tzu, Poppy to the Groom Room in Durham since she was a puppy which is now 8 years. I would not take my Poppy anywhere else! She has been groomed from
Tom in recent years and he is always so friendly and takes care of Poppy, so much she enjoys seeing him! Joanne is also very friendly and has always put us at ease knowing we are leaving Poppy in such great hands!
Thanks to both for always taking care of Poppy and giving her the 5 stat treatment.
I don't DONT BRIG YOUR DOG TO THE GROOM ROOM MANCHESTER ROAD Boltonknow what kind of imbeciles …
I don't know what kind of imbeciles are working in the groom room in Manchester road Bolton but the shouldn't be allowed to groom dogs we told them we had been told by the vet to keep her hair short around her mouth ofcourse they didn't listen or were too stupid to comprehend and shaved all of my dog she's cold all the time now and I have to keep her jumper on constantly and they clipped her ear never again will she go there
DO NOT, sign up for the subscription pet food, because when you call to change the date, they make it REALLY hard to access customer service, and when you finally think you’ve sorted it out, your 15kg bag will just turn up anyway. Thank you PetsAtHome, now I have 30 minutes wasted on your stupid website, a ton of pet food I can’t store and I’m really annoyed
✂️🐩 Disappointing Experience with Grooming at Pet at Home New Malden Store writing to express my…
I'm writing to express my disappointment with the service I received at the
■ STORE: NEW MALDEN DOG GROOMING ROOM■
As regular customers, we've always been happy with the grooming services provided for our Toy Poodle.
However, our latest experience was marred by poor administration.
● We had booked an appointment for 11th December at 4 pm, but later realised it clashed with a doctor's appointment. We promptly changed the appointment to 19th December on 13th November and received a text confirmation from girl xalled Alex (groomer)
Shockingly, we received a text on the day of the original appointment, only to find out that the staff were expecting us. It transpired that the new appointment date hadn't been updated correctly. When we pointed out the error, we were told that the 19th was no longer available due to staff shortages and that we'd need to take the original appointment or wait until the New Year.
We're unhappy with the excuse provided, as it seems like a case of poor administration rather than genuine staff shortages. This isn't the first time we've experienced issues with their booking system. A simple acknowledgement of the mistake would have gone a long way. Instead, we're left scrambling to find alternative grooming at short notice.
*Recommendation:* Improve your administrative processes to prevent similar mistakes in the future.
They have absolutely ruined my beautiful girls coat. I won't be taking her back to any groom room branch after this. £80 and it's a joke. They were given clear instructions and completely ignored them. Dunfermline branch
Our 3rd visit and our second cocker spaniel to visit the Merthyr branch. Shannon groomed both dogs and did an excellent job with both. She knew exactly what was required without us asking. Can't recommend her enough. She even gave Billy a Christmas card lol.
Laisea has been Bentleys groomer for 7 years. She is professional and very caring when grooming my older golden retriever. I would recommend highly if your looking for a groomer.
If i could give zero stars then i would.on 19th november 2025 my 2 dogs were booked in at squires gate blackpool grooming our french bulldog for bath and nail trim and papmer treatment.
Our mixed dog was booked in for facial hair trim and feet hair trim and bath.
2 hours later went to pick them up. At 5.45 dogs came out lights were switched off and we was ushered down stairs to pay as an issue with the till.
No chance of actually looking at dogs before we got them home.
First our mixed dog his facial hair looked like he had been hacked at, appalling, i had to tidy him up myself.
Now this is the concerning bit, our frenchy was limping when we got him home, couldnt climb onto his usual place to lay down, no pamper treatment had been done no nail trim.
I left a whatsapp message asking why the treatments i asked for had not been done and did our frenchy have some kind of accident.
I gave it 2 days no reply and our frenchy was getting worse with his walking.
Took him to vets who said his trauma looked to her like it could be due to a fall, and because i had given our frenchy pain relief i already had at home he had to go back to vets at 6pm that evening for pain injection.
By the evening when he went back to vets, he was having trouble walking on his back legs. She immediately got us into a specialist the next morning in Kendal as she didnt like that he had got so worse.
Our frenchy was admitted for surgery on his back he had a disc removed from the lower part of his back and thankfully 3 days later hes home with lots of days of recovery and strong meds. At a cost of £5310
I rung pets at home to speak to a manager, i needed answers.
A manager rung me back i told her all that had happened and not happened with there grooming appointment.
She said she will look into it and get back to me.
Surprise surprise no one got back to me again so i messaged the whatsapp number saying i would contact head office if a manager did not responde by return.
I got a call few hours later from a manager..
She couldnt say what had been done about the staff but apologised for my 2 dogs not getting there booked treatment. I said so did our frenchy have a fall ? She said she asked and they said NO!!! I said well obviously they are gonna say no and she actually agreed with me! i asked if the groom room was camered which apparently its not, so i asked why did my dog walk in fine and come out injured and so much that he had to have spinal surgery 5 days later. She apologised!! OMG seriously! And she proceeded to offer me a free grooming for both dogs haha then when i said you are joking they will never come back again, she then said i hope your frenchy is doing ok and i will give you a box of treats for him! No refund for grooming that they never got!
So in conclusion, we have decided not to leave it there and are leaving it in the hands of our solicitor. As you cant have a healthy dog walk in and 5 days later have spinal surgery.
If you are reading this, DO NOT leave your dog at this god forsaken place, we have paid a high price in putting our trust in staff that obviously do not have a clue.
